My husband and I honeymooned there in the 80's. When we first walked in, we had a photo taken, wish I could post it. Had a cabin with round bed, mirrored ceiling, and pool, with his and her bathrooms. We had breakfast (pancakes only) delivered outside our cabin in a wooden box by a man that drove a station wagon. We did miniature golf, paddle boating in the lake, archery, and gun shooting. We saw a comedy show too. It was great. Wanted to celebrate our 25th anniversary there years back and found it closed. What a shame, it was a beautiful setting. Thanks for the video!
This is totally bizarre for me to see. In 2000 My husband and I honeymooned here... we were young and it was the only place we could afford. The place was REALLY dated but it was amusing and very camp. I was sad to hear of it going under..... I was also sad to hear of "Saxy Sal", the main entertainer at the nightclub, passing. In any case, it is so strange to see a place you once were while it was alive in this state. Goodnight Summit Resort.....

I can’t believe nobody has done something with it Thanks for bringin back those memories!!!!
Dan, thank you so much. We actually went there on our honeymoon in 1995 and we were saddened when we heard it had closed down, but not surprised. Even back then, it was hopelessly outdated. We were in one of the honeymoon chalets. The resort was clean and well maintained at the time but the carpeting on the walls, the heart shaped bed and bath, the wrought iron medieval chandelier and the fireplace were just so hokie but added to the atmosphere. We still have fond memories from there, as well as the souvenir keychain and glasses. I will show this video to my wife and we'll have a drink in those glasses.
This brought back a lot of memories. I was a nightclub musician during the 70's and 80s' (yes I wore the silk shirts etc.! lol). I never played "The Poconos", but most of the places at the time had pretty much the same look. Thanks for the vid!!
Rock-n-Roll Bassin' aw i am SO jealous. how cool that would have been. i was born in 1996 and love everything about about 70s & 80s culture, fashion and music.
Love this video because we went to the Summit many times in the 80s & 90s. We were well aware of how corny the theme was but it just added to the fun. We use to go with 7 couples & kept going back there because it was so inexpensive & all inclusive. Breakfast, lunch & dinner included for under 100$ a nite. Entertainment every nite in the theater/lounge area. Thanks for the video, just sorry the place is in shambles. We have many pictures from our stays there. Several in the dining room with the wall of windows in the back and the rooms we stayed in. We never stayed in a villa, too expensive, lol. Many good memories.
I worked here for several years in the late 90's into the 2000's, I remember everyone panicking cause of y2k, the family that owned it has all passed away, it went under cause the owner owed so much on his taxes and was too cheap to keep the place up to date and never wanted to spend money on fixing things, now it's completely destroyed, the last time I drove by the locals have vandalized so much of it, it's a shame
Do you have any clue as to who might own it now? It appears from this video that the lights are still on in the place, so someone is paying that bill, so it likely has an owner.
TU PAPÁ I meant that figuratively. I remember back in the 80's when that was the place to go for your honeymoon. The ads had these really cheesy pictures of men and women, in the fashions of the day.
6:54 well after seeing that shit I'd be hauling ass up out of that bitch as fast as I possibly could and not a hope in hell would I have went in that room 🏃🏻💨👻
The thing that amazes me is that the building STILL has electricity! It has been well aged and everything is still in it's own place. Like the night it shut down will remain in that building forevor
This is still the best Dan! Have been watching the channel for a good while now. During these hard times I watch the old videos to help me go to sleep. Hope things are well. Thanks
+This is Dan Bell. I agree with Josh! I watch his channel too. I love your commentary. I always want to know more about the places and you totally deliver. I shared your bowling alley video recently on Reddit in a lesser-traveled subreddit, but I think you should submit what you feel is your best work to /r/videos. Excellent work!
+This is Dan Bell. The chandeliers in the cocktail area, 14:30 etc., COULD be of the world-famous 60's-70's designer, Verner Panton and if they are, they're worth a fortune. Now that would be insane. As always top quality from Dan the Man.
My husband and I honeymooned there back in 1981. The Pocono honeymoon resorts spent lots of money advertising in the various bridal magazines back in the day. You paid the price for the hotel and all three meals and your activities were included. We got married in the dead of winter and it was pretty cool to be swimming in the pool when it was 10 degrees outside! The Poconos has grown up a lot since we were on our honeymoon. I remember we didn't like what they were serving for dinner one of the nights we stayed and we drove about 15 miles to find a pizzeria! It's so very sad to see this....it was alive and vibrant when we're there in a cold January of 81. :(
Spent our honeymoon here in September 1989. So sad to see it abandoned. We had a cabin with the heart shaped bed and jacuzzi. I have many pictures from the resort. It really was an awesome place for the times.
I'm in awe watching this video I can still feel the lively vibe it just doesn't have that abandon feeling and the paintings made my night I can't believe how untouched they were. Thank-you for keeping the 70s alive +this is dan
I am a west coast guy and don't know anything about the Poconos so I looked it up on Wikipedia. Lo and behold - one of the most notable residents there is Morris Wilkins, inventor of the heart-shaped bathtub and the guy who is credited for establishing this place as the 'honeymoon capital of the world'. This video is like a relic of this guy's work. He died this year. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morris_Wilkins
Bro that song at the beginning. Every time I watch this video it gets stuck in my head, then I’m walking around ALL DAY like “get it up, get it up, higher, higher. Get it up! Get it up! OOH, CHICKA CHICKA CHICKA CHICKA”🤣
My husband and I honeymooned here back in January of 1981. It was very nice back in it's day. We had one of the rooms with the pool. I believe it was called the Fantasia suite. It seems at that time instead of updating facilities and staying a little more current with the times, the various resorts there were trying to outdo one another with a bigger and better room offerings. I have great memories as it was a wonderful honeymoon. Couple that dined with us as dinner was on a *trial honeymoon*....I still laugh about that today. I was 19 when I got married and couldn't quite figure that one out. I have some pictures floating around....if I come across them, I will send them to you.
Your videos are very atmospheric thanks to the subtle music, sound fx, soothing narration and above all else - steady camera work. A jack of all trades and a master of the genre that is abandoned footage.
Great vid Dan. I've heard many stories about how the Poconos were they place to be during the late sixties and seventies. Although a little dusty, I'm glad you could give us a peek into that time. This place must have been they place to be.
That's an urban explorers dream come true!, all original, untouched by graffiti/vandals/copper thieves. Truly an amazing place!, I had no idea the Poconos was such a Couples Get away spot!. Kinda reminds me of the Catskills. Great video as always Mr. Bell!.
This place is amazing. All of the the wallpaper patterns and designs had me drooling and don't even get me started on the heart shaped bar! I am absolutely obsessed with your channels, I can't stop binge watching.
Yes, vandals haven't trashed the place, yet. So 70's! It's crazy to think of all the work, all the blood, sweat, and tears put into a business, and now it's just abandoned.
"It's refreshing to see a place that hasn't been tarnished by yobbos and spraypaint." saying teenagers are the cause of damage to these beautiful buildings is a bit generalized. I and many of my friends would never damage abandoned buildings.
Incredible footage...thanks, Dan. I share your appreciation for the old decor of the 60's and 70's and you're right: this is truly a stunning glimpse back in time!
Hey Dan, after I binge watched a ton of urbex videos of various youtubers I somehow got stuck on your channel. You perfectly catch the atmosphere of the places you visit. It just amazes me everytime. Your calm way to film the rooms and interesting things in them is perfect. Other youtubers tend to move too fast or focus on things that are not as interesting I think. Or they talk too much. What I want to say is, that you are doing a really good job and I look forward to your upcoming videos. Greetings from Germany :) Keep up the good work!
The nightclub part was awesome! I would LOVE to be able to spend just one night there back in the 70s just to see how everything was. I love your videos so much thanks for always putting your all into them!
I drive past this place almost every day and I've always wanted to see what is inside...! So weird seeing a youtuber like you come to a place so out of the way!
hah my bad. I was thinking of Penn Hills. this one was so beautiful though. it was so sad to see all the damn graffiti at Penn Hills however. I don't understand why people have to ruin such beautiful pieces of architecture... anyways, great video & thanks for sharing!
+McKenna Barnette well probably smackheads who need money to afford their shit, and so collectin scrap. It's in a pretty good shape (maybe because it's out of the way?)
+Nathan Andrew Davis (Bantam Jeep Elevators) Would like to think that it was the wind but that door has been ajar for like years (weeks or days, if there were some explorers that went there before him), if it was the wind then shouldn't it be like wide open for a long time already? Scary tho and i would've noped away. lol.
Such an eerie vibe to the whole place, but never more so than in the Scheherazade Lounge & Kismet Barroom. But it's not a creepy eeriness at all; it's more like feeling that a show is going to start at any second, one that'll actually take you on back to its heyday! Great opening music, too! I have to say that, of all your videos, this one is my favorite, with the Rolling Acres Mall coming in an extremely close second. You're probably sick of comments like these, but thank you sooo much for sharing this awesomely entertaining material with us, Dan! Please keep 'em coming!
Just celebrated our 35 wedding anniversary this year and The Summit is where we went for our honeymoon. The Poconos were a big honeymoon destination at the time. Last year we were going to be in Pennsylvania near there and thought it would be fun to go see it. That’s when we found out it had been closed and abandoned. We went anyways to explore on our actual wedding anniversary! It was sad and eerie at the same time. There has been a lot of damage since your video-broken windows, lots of stuff gone, tons of graffiti. We found the heart shaped themed cabin we stayed in and recreated some photos there and in the lobby. It was a very cool experience.
Hey Dan, I love and appreciate all of your dead/abandoned videos. They tap into a part of my psyche that no other medium really has. So a big thanks to you and kudos to your work. And to all you freaks watching this, I hope you enjoy it. I, in some unexplainable way, enjoy it as well.
I’m new to Dan Bell and I really love this place. It’s amazing. All the fab furniture just wasted! Thanks for all your explores Dan as I’m binge watching over the last week 🇮🇪❤️☘️
Dan, I am thankful that you posted this and appreciate this era! Most poke fun at the mid-century America remnants and paint graffiti and thrash them. I too really appreciate the really cool style and ambiance of this era of hotels, resorts, night clubs, restaurants etc. I love the cool fixtures too.
Man, your videos are something else, you seriously know how to identify the vibe of a place and capture it so well with the shots and music , amazing ♡
This one is so sad! You just know that people probably really loved this place and had good memories there, and I hate when someplace I love goes away. Also just the pure vintagey goodness and yes, cheese factor makes it kinda charming! Wish I could of gone there when it was up and running :)
Dan. My wife and I honeymooned at the Summit in October of 1982 and yes, we stayed in a room with the heart shaped tub and bed. True story...they served meals family style and Lo and behold inside the huge bowl of mashed potatoes was a steel bolt that had come loose from the blender that helped whip the mashed potatoes. I also remember that metal light post and round globe you showed!
What a gem of a place! Even though it probably lead to its demise, I'm glad the owner never bothered to renovate it at all, keeping the original 70s aesthetic all the way up to its closing and inadvertently giving intrepid explorers an unbelievable time capsule to enjoy.
Who sings the opening song?? "Give it up, give it up.... Higher, higher... Ooh... Cch...cch....cch! It's stuck in my head and I would like to own it now! Thanks.
Wow your videos are absolutely fantastic. I just recently came across them and now I'm addicted. I'm from Pennsylvania so it was so nice to see some of its history. When you said you wish you could spend a day there in its heyday to see what that club was like, maybe if you put it out there's some people might have video or pictures they could send you. I know it wouldn't be the same as being there but you could see what it was like when it was in full swing
You found a wooden heart with the number 69 on it that hadn't been stolen yet. That's like finding a unicorn.

Anthony Smeraldo I think it’s just daytime?
There were electrical lights working
Whenever I see abandoned places with the lights still on, I can't help but wonder who the hell is still paying the bill.
Sort of late to the conversation but there is a caretaker and the facility has an owner. I'd imagine by now the place has been demolished.

It was really nice then it was always booked I miss the Xmas parties we had indoor pool Game rooms it was fun. So sad to see it this way.
Ellie Nash Was a great time. I was a little kid in the 70s but the 80s were my favorite decade. Oh the memories.
NYC girl
Sexy time good.
Swingers?
I worked here for several years in the late 90's into the 2000's, I remember everyone panicking cause of y2k, the family that owned it has all passed away, it went under cause the owner owed so much on his taxes and was too cheap to keep the place up to date and never wanted to spend money on fixing things, now it's completely destroyed, the last time I drove by the locals have vandalized so much of it, it's a shame
Do you have any clue as to who might own it now? It appears from this video that the lights are still on in the place, so someone is paying that bill, so it likely has an owner.
As far as I know it's had been taken by the bank, the owner never paid the taxes and it was taken from him before he passed away

At 6:55 mark that would have been my decision to leave.
Haha I would have been long gone!
Yeah I'm Fuckin outta there Jack!
that was CREEPY!
Right before that you can hear the door slam shut.
My thoughts exactly, I would have ran out.
Its like the cheesy disco version of “The Shining”.
That opening song is perfect. While watching you can almost see the ghosts of men in their gawdy satin shirts. With the powder blue sansabelt pants
at what time?
+TU PAPÁ i think they mean it figuratively
TU PAPÁ I meant that figuratively. I remember back in the 80's when that was the place to go for your honeymoon. The ads had these really cheesy pictures of men and women, in the fashions of the day.
I wonder why I get the feeling that song has a double entendre?
Erin Smith
Omg thanks 😂... that's going to be imprinted in my head all day now.
I wonder how much coke was snorted in this place in its hey day.
Copious amounts I'm sure.
Probably good cocaine not stepped on either 👀⛷❄❄
Enough for Stephen King to write several of his best novels, no doubt!
Massive chunks of Peruvian flake, sparkling like snowflakes.

Was Dan Bell on his own? That is strange
Go BigBLUEforLIFE As for me it would have been hasta la BYE-BYE
I only wish that I could take a place like that, fix it up, N make it into what it once was. Cause ppl need places like that today.
This is still the best Dan! Have been watching the channel for a good while now. During these hard times I watch the old videos to help me go to sleep. Hope things are well. Thanks
A LOT of babies were most likely conceived in this place too. I love those chandeliers in the lounge😁 I want one in my dining room.
Michelle Evans all the light fittings are sensational. I’m surprised no one has pillaged them.
🤢🤮
A lot of baby's were made in that place..
Underrated
I was actually. My mom and dad went to this place on they’re honeymoon in 95
I think I may have been one of them tbh.
Ok, that door opening on its own was damned creepy! Great video, Dan. This place must have been gorgeous in its hey day.
+Kelly G Thunder chunk
+Pamela Major IK right I seen the door open it scared me lol!
+Kelly G Right. But I like that he has both kinds of videos the creepy ones and just exploring.
+GOTHIC CHILD Ok, when I hear it from Dan, I'll believe it. Why find it necessary to be insulting? "lol"
+GOTHIC CHILD lollol
love your commentary dan. your gonna get big soon . you have a great film style.
+Exploring With Josh Thanks, Josh. I appreciate it.
Exploring With Josh pretty clran
Liberace had an upstairs party room at his Las Vegas house called the Moroccan room , similar decor.
Friends of mine were on their honeymoon there in 1976 and they are still together to this day. Great couple!
The production value and editing of your videos are impressive.
Dan i think the two things that set your videos apart from other urbex videos is the music and commentary
Agreed
Plus the steady camera too! All the others are so shakey and move too fast.
+Wendy Reyes you can tell that film profession paid off
That and he actually goes inside... I’m not a fan of urbex vids where they only stick their camera up to the window to get a peek inside
I guess the Honeymoon is over..
Best comment ever.
With a name like Bert Skidmore, you know he's going to drop some great dad jokes on ya
I see what you did there.
*GROANS*
6:55 * door opens on its own*
you: well don't mind if I do
WTF
Spent our honeymoon here in September 1989.
So sad to see it abandoned.
We had a cabin with the heart shaped bed and jacuzzi. I have many pictures from the resort. It really was an awesome place for the times.
I'm in awe watching this video I can still feel the lively vibe it just doesn't have that abandon feeling and the paintings made my night I can't believe how untouched they were. Thank-you for keeping the 70s alive +this is dan
+this is dan bell
"Evening Lloyd!"
"Good evening, Mr. Torrence."
White mans burden, Lloyd. White mans burden...
This is absolutely one my favorite films you have produced. I watch it once every 3 or 4 months or so, Love ya Dan!
The light fixtures are amazing, someone needs to rescue them before it's too late!
Yes, definitely. I'm a lighting collector and thought that too!
+Crowvamp1979 love your pic
Your videos are very atmospheric thanks to the subtle music, sound fx, soothing narration and above all else - steady camera work. A jack of all trades and a master of the genre that is abandoned footage.
What a beautiful place in a beautiful setting. Glad you captured it on video before it was destroyed. Thanks!
It's refreshing to see a place that hasn't been tarnished by teenagers and spraypaint.
Yes, vandals haven't trashed the place, yet. So 70's! It's crazy to think of all the work, all the blood, sweat, and tears put into a business, and now it's just abandoned.
Unfortunately it has been now. Another TH-cam explorer recently posted a video of this place. It's been shredded.
Your generation created a hotel that went to shit but sure...the teenagers are gonna fuck it up!
"It's refreshing to see a place that hasn't been tarnished by yobbos and spraypaint."
saying teenagers are the cause of damage to these beautiful buildings is a bit generalized.
I and many of my friends would never damage abandoned buildings.
@@polaris0386 yeah, but it usually is teens who think it's fun to tag places like that. Idk why, but lots of us do. It's dumb imo though.
I am literally obsessed with this place, wish I could have visted, sad it's torn down. The cinemetography and music help a lot too.
I have probably watched this video 50 times and I love it everytime! I just think Dan brings this place back to life just for a little while.
Its amazing how much stuff is still there. I love it since it really gives you a better sense of what went on there day to day.

+DasVERMiT uummm idk mostly cheap porno skits
Greetings from Germany :)
Keep up the good work!
You’re right, the nightclub is just stunning.
Went there in 2000 for our honeymoon. It had the 70's decor. The place was clean and the food was great. I enjoyed the nightclub.
The nightclub part was awesome! I would LOVE to be able to spend just one night there back in the 70s just to see how everything was. I love your videos so much thanks for always putting your all into them!
+Alisa Crotteau Think we'd all have a brilliant night :)
I drive past this place almost every day and I've always wanted to see what is inside...! So weird seeing a youtuber like you come to a place so out of the way!
+McKenna Barnette Very out of the way. This is my favorite of all the places I’ve visited.
McKenna Barnette 🙄
Why didn't he react when the door opened?
Going inside was his reaction I guess lol... Brave man he is.
+Jennifer T Yeah you're right lol
+Antoine Crampton he charged....that was his reaction lol!!! +Dan am I right?
+Antoine Crampton I'm guessing it was probably the wind blowing? That's my logical explanation.
It's a shame us of the younger generations will never experience the magic you and your spouse had way back when.

I love the cool fixtures too.
this place is so beautiful, even after being abandoned for a decade or more
Man, your videos are something else, you seriously know how to identify the vibe of a place and capture it so well with the shots and music , amazing ♡
This one is so sad! You just know that people probably really loved this place and had good memories there, and I hate when someplace I love goes away. Also just the pure vintagey goodness and yes, cheese factor makes it kinda charming! Wish I could of gone there when it was up and running :)
I have the same feeling for the 1950's. Want to do a post-WWII tract house back to its original state. Would be so awesome! But fiance says no, lol...
Same here.
The door opened by itself and....no questions asked?!
Excellent video!!! What a time capsule of the 70's. Nice work Dan!
Groovy! Great example of the 1970s tackiness.
junbug1029 true dat.
junbug1029 Yeah, every decade seems so different. 60s free love, 80s decade of decadence, 90s not sure, maybe grunge.
@@tamigarrett3513 the 90s was a start of the decline
@WonkaaVision ok boomer
@WonkaaVision You are extremely out of touch
we stayed there on our honeymoon in 1973! it was lovely!
Sad, so much nice furniture and stuff wasted. This place could probably be fixed if it doesn't sit too much longer.
Hi Max! didn't know you liked urban exploration! I love your videos :D
Yea, then the mold could get even worse :/

Isn’t that what it means though? 🤔😂
I thought of that too!
This place is awesome! It would be absolutely amazing re-opened as a 70s themed hotel/bar.
Amazing...You know there was a bunch of 'Love' going on there! The 70's was a different time as so were the people.
I took my new wife there for our honey moon last week, we are getting divorced now.
She sounds far too demanding. You're better off.
ArcadeGames you're too much!!!!!
😄🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Smart guy , what a way to get rid of your wife.
BA DA BOOM !!
Just saw your Q and A and wanted to say this video is where it all started for me with your channel. We stayed at that exact resort on 1996.
Thanks.
It's called "Get It Up" by Gerhard Heinz.

Just love the attention to detail put into these videos, can’t stop watching!!
My compliments on your choice of music! We had a really good laugh on a day when we really needed one around here about the irony of this intro.
