In fact, the Soviet union was founded even later than world war I. Japan surrendered in 1945. So modern capitalism which you said is far more peaceful(still a lot of wars) should be about 60 years old? Then the modern socialism should be the same so you must count from the same time period.

@@mayanksaboo8045 Individuality, the freedom to try and achieve what you want even if you fail, a higher standard of living for most people than the decades before, an acknowledgement that the world will never be fair and is ultimately a terrible place, but still trying provide a state where people can at least attempt to better their own lives. Those are some examples. I would never include among them shared responsibility and/or guilt, forced service to a group or collective, a state owning the means of production, or an economically unviable system that would only decrease the standard of living for majority of people overall. Reality is horrid, unfair, and brutal, just like the evolutionary circumstances that created homonsapiens in the first place. But humans at least having individuality and the freedom to try and pursue happiness in some form is as decent as we are most likely to ever have it.
I love Star Trek, but there is no way in a world where children are raped and murdered, people are kidnapped and tortured, innocents are butchered by terrorists and serial killers, and sociopaths are able to convince people to follow them will we ever live in a utopian, harmonious society whereby currency need not exist nor "exploitation" through voluntary services and employment.
It's great to dream, but this evolution based world is incapable of providing a perfect system or harmony, hence why the animal kingdom is one of predators and prey (just like humans, who themselves are animals). Best we can do is work with a system that at least understands that and provides a higher standard of living for most people, even if it isn't paradise or has grevious faults in some areas. I'm quite happy as a middle class American and son of a formerly poor parent that I have access to the privileges I do. I'm lucky, had I been born in another part of the world without the values of America and the West, I could have been a peasant farmer displaced into a labor camp to meet industrial quotas with no freedom of choice. But instead I can pursue music and writing while working a basic 9 to 5 to support the burdens of my existence that we all have.

At least the red flags of the revolutions where tainted in the blood of the oppressors not some bangladesh children who make your flags that you can wave around at the next football game feeling patriotic for twelve twats earning more in one month than you will earn in your entire life. Doesn't that bother you? Doesn't it bother you being told day in and day out what you have to do, where you have to sit, when you have to eat, how you have to dress, what is acceptable at the work place and what not? The term socialist has been thrown around quite a bit in the past few years. Not since the cold war has the term garnered so much attention in the press and from politicians. But when you look at countries who actually have a socialist economic structure, you can see some similarities to the United States - but there are some really stark differences.
Below, you will see some of the most socialistic nations in the world today:
      China
      Denmark
      Finland
      Netherlands
      Canada
      Sweden
      Norway
      Ireland
      New Zealand
Belgium. Despite popular myths, there is very little connection between economic performance and welfare expenditure. Many of the countries on this list are proof of that, such as Denmark and Finland. Even though both countries are more socialistic than America, the workforce remains stronger.

The issue as to whether Fascism is comparable, inevitably came up @03:20. It rather depends on how people define themselves; there may indeed be a version of Fascism which has been cleansed of all racism, militarism and political violence whose adherents denounce Hitler, Mussolini etc. which defines itself purely in terms of some political goal to be achieved by more or less peaceful and democratic means. Personally I have yet to encounter such an approach. Indeed most of those who are openly Fascist tend to be apologists for leader cults and their methods. Communists too have among their number people who do this but they are becoming increasingly rare as the years progress. However there have also always been Communists who vehemently denounce such people and oppose their methods. All that is required to be a Communist is to believe that that the world economy can be brought under democratic control and the surpluses used to progressively improve the human condition. Now this may prove to be a total pipe dream, but that’s another debate entirely since it has nothing to do with giving offence. Think of Christians by way of analogy; the arrival of the kingdom of heaven is far-fetched but that’s no reason not to wear the T-Shirt without being held directly accountable for its many doctrinal excesses from the Crusades via the Inquisition to the Holocaust.

You critique communism without even knowing what it is... For most people Communism is just a scary word. Its clear you were just told that Communism is bad because people (most likely the education system/your family) told you it was. What makes a communist society a communist society is it being a moneyless, stateless, classless, society. That was never implemented anywhere. Each time a country works towards communism (for example the soviet union, Cuba, or Venezuela) several capitalist countries intervene, place sanctions, and destabilize the country. The soviet union for example faced interventions from over 14 different capitalist countries. If you're so confident communism will fail, why not let a country working towards communism draw breath without a capitalist country (or several in most cases) tampering with the process?

Communism - the ultimate goal of socialism, is a society that's decentralized, has common ownership, no government, no military or social classes.
Socialism is when a central authoritarian government, made up of a large representation of the overall population listens to the masses and dictates the direct of the country according to their needs and wants, for example in the soviet union they had the supreme soviet, in china they have the national people's congress, and in the dprk they have the supreme people's assembly, they do this with a planned economy, little or no private property, little or none class divisions and less of a gap between the government and the people.
This congress has workers, businessmen, investors, economists, engineers, historians et cetera, people of high intelligence and knowledge.
This congress picks the party head, the central committee, everything.
So yes, socialism has an authoritarian government, of the proletariat, the people.
Communism doesn't, because of the fact that it has no government.
