  • In today's video I take an in depth look at Kia's 8-inch touchscreen UVO system in the 2014 and 2015 Kia Soul Exclaim (!). The second generation touchscreen navigation and infotainment system builds on the Microsoft-based first generation with more features, a tweaked look and greater Google integration including Google Maps and Google Places. There will also be a series of app integration features available such as 911 assist and Find My Car.

Just found your reviews, and I'm very impressed! You go into a lot of detail, both good and bad, which I've found lacking in a lot of other reviews out there. Big Like from me!

I have been living with this horrible nav system for 5 years now and I seriously want a software upgrade to see if they have fixed the stupid things this nav system does. Example, accidentally touch the screen during a active route and a circle around an X appears and the system has just added a waypoint to the route. It does not give you a yes/no cancel option screen to get rid of the waypoint, which can be anywhere on the map including in the middle of a river or 2 miles off the intended route where no road exist. The only way to get rid of the way point is cancel the navigation route and restart the route which is going to require pulling over to deal with it safely. It also selects routes based on distance and time using assumed traffic free routes that are not traffic free routes and does not allow selecting a slightly longer route that avoids commuter congested routes. it took a tech at Kia nearly 2 hours to program in the go home address and I just figured out how to change it yesterday. It is not easy to do. The interfacing with phones has a lot of stupid screens to deal with and it has a terrible inclination to to attempt to pair up with the person's phone sitting next to you in another vehicle in traffic , and it requires interacting with 3 screens to tell it "NO, don't pair up with someone else phone. I like the Kia Soul but this navigation system sucks big time.It sure they hell isn't worth the 4 grand it added to the cost of the vehicle.

Kia came thru with a wonderful upgrade. Cost was a new 32GB SD Card and a few hours spent downloading and compiling the upgrade program. Then about 20 min doing the upgrade. Results were worth the effort. Once you start the upgrade do not pay attention the goofy notices during the upgrade and just be patient, keep the motor running and enjoy the huge improvements when it is complete. .

I kind of got sidetracked on the Alex on Autos Weekly segments. I'll restart them if there is interest.

Well I always enjoyed them, I liked hearing your opinion. I have an interest in the Alex on Autos Weekly, if that counts for something. I know that one viewer isn't going to sway you to do them again. Also, what happened to the Jeep Comanche videos?

Alex on Autos hi Alex, is it true that Kia has rolled out free software updates to this UVO system to add Apple CarPlay? Thanks!

My new Kia Soul SX Lux infotainment system is identical and I am very used to the intuitive interface of all of Apple's products. Kia has had access to Apple's Car Play for about 2 years and have not implemented it. Kia decided to go with Microsoft that have nearly 3% of the market for smart phones and Microsoft is known for their unintuitive kluge software. This infotainment system is no different.
The voice navigation is almost unusable in that it seldom recognizes my requests. It has a very very limited vocabulary and if you haven't memorized it and said it the right way, the system doesn't have a clue. Even asking it to "go home", it wanted to take me to a funeral home in Michigan (I live on the west coast of Canada). I absolutely love my new Kia Soul but hate the infotainment system with a passion. I hope Kia forces the radio supplier to update and improve the firmware and release it to all of us unfortunate owners.

Do you know how to apply updates that may be released and where to get the update? I have a 2015 optima sxl and I'm wondering if there's any updates out there for it. Its been somewhat buggy since I got the car. Thanks.

Can that display which tires are under inflated (via TPMS), or are there some control menu buttons for the tire pressure monitoring system located elsewhere ?
