- When Dawson Newby was 3, he told his dad he wanted a dirt bike.
A home builder who was missing a laborer on his crew, Jason Newby took the opportunity to teach his toddler a life lesson.
"I talked to him about ... the reality that bikes are expensive," Jason says, "and if he wants it, he's gonna have to earn some money."
So Dawson did.
"Every day I went out and worked for him," says Dawson, now 14.
The 3-year-old accompanied his dad every day that summer.
"I couldn't leave to go to work without him being ready and wanting to go," Jason says.
When Dawson's hours were tallied, he had earned $840.
"I looked at his mom and said, 'We gotta get him a motorcycle,'" Jason recounts.
Today, Dawson is a professional motocross rider out of Eaton, Colo., where he trains at CrossFit Eaton. Like many other athletes in specific sports, Dawson has found CrossFit helps him perform better, and his dad says the improvements are significant.
"It's been night and day, honestly, since then," Jason says, "in his lap times, in his ability to handle the machine, his confidence."

I see a lot of people hating on this kid. Give him a break. He is putting in work and trying hard. He did ride the Pro Sport class at the ANAC in Vegas last year. I was there, I watched it. He ended up 9th in the main. He will be a contender in 2014 for the pro sport title.
okay people. we understand that you can't be pro until your 16 but jeez you might thinks he's a class D but for his age he's pretty good. putting all the effort and time into racing makes you feel pro. he's doing what he loves and you need to respect that.
If he's fking "pro" then I'm Marvin Musquin.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm RV2, brah.
Jon Smith hes not a pro hes a newbie
Jon Smith ronnie mac
Jon Smith hes 14 i thought you couldn't get your pro licence until you were 17
I would love to ride dirtbikes, but I can't afford one, nor do I have the land to ride one. This kid is super lucky.
Get a good job, work hard, save up and buy one! There's plenty of space around that people let you ride.
+Tea Pot I couldn't do that, because not only does my family travel the world, but I'm 14 and I don't think anywhere will hire a 14 year old. We're not allowed to bring over things like dirt bikes over seas. We're moving to Japan soon, and I don't think there's anywhere to ride them there. Some people will say I'm lucky to be able to travel the world, but theres a hell of a lot of downsides.
+Fishes worst enemy oh, yeah it is hard if you travel a lot... Sorry man.
+Tea Pot there's nothing to be sorry about, I'll probably never get into motocross, but I'm sure one day I'll get one to ride for fun. But traveling doesn't come anywhere near to being as fun as this kid is having.
+Fishes worst enemy so you travel the world but can't afford a dirt bike… sounds like bullshit to me
money does the talk in this kid's life
i remember when i pretended to be pro when i was 14 😂😂😂
Max Mayer im 5'5 would a 250 be good for me?
Max Mayer MEEEEEE
Same
I was good with a 2 stroke 125🤣
Quesadilla Productions it doesn’t matter what height u are, u can be 5’4 and ride a 450
this story is amazing!!! good luck on the nationals man keep rippin!
Lucky to have parents that support you in it and get you the stuff you need
Thank you Crossfit for the video. Thank you to those of you with something positive to say. For those of you that feel like you have all the answers, I'm dreaming, spoiled, slow... You can beat me... Etc etc etc. Thank you also. I never claimed I would take the world by storm. But I have never been someone to sit by and just dream. Dreams fall flat if you never get off your butt and chase them. My dad is a Pastor, so most of my career has been spent riding older outdated equipment, but none of that is really my point here. I have always been taught that whether I succeed or fail it will NOT be because I didn't work hard enough. My diet, my off track training, my program in general has been on point since before this video... Which by the way was shot like 3 years ago. And Crossfit has played an amazing role in that. I am now 16, going on 17 and will graduate high school this year... A year early. Racing is about more that going out there outa control and winning a single race.!! Supporters / sponsors are looking for the whole package. I know I am not the fastest 16 year old out there, but I am one of the most committed and determined I can promise you that. I push but don't ride over my head. My injury record is short. One door after another has been opened because of those things. Believe it or not those who are willing to shell out support want representation at every race in the series. A win is awesome but if your out for the rest of the series because injury it does them no good. 1 more thing to think about. I've been traveling and racing since I was 7. I learned early on the big talkers are not the ones I have to worry about. The humble, quiet ones are the fastest. Funny how that is. When you truly got something, you don't have to tell people, they already know it. That's why I seldom respond. Bottom line. Gods given the talent, the desire and the opportunity. He opens the doors. He honors our hard work. He gives grace to the humble and opposes the proud! And when it comes down to it I do it all for Him.
So here we are, just 5 days away from the first round of the AMA National Arenacross Series. I am incredibly blessed to be riding the Team Faith Fly Racing Western Power Sports Pilot / Flying J Factory Services KTM in both the Arenacross Premier, and Arenacross Lites classes. Additionally the last round, of the AMA Supercross in Las Vegas.
Thanks again! Maybe I'll see you on the track.
YOUR NEVER GONNA MAKE IT DUDE!!!!!!!😂😂😂😭😭😭😭😭 if u raced in Georgia you'd be in c class
Hey Tristan you're in luck man, the AMA Nat'l Arenacross Series comes to Nashville and Tampa. Both are pretty close to Georgia. You should come on out and school me some, since you are obviously an expert... You're sure able to tell a lot from a video filmed 3 years ago when I was 14. Come on out man, I'm sure I could learn a lot from you.
Well said bro..i loved the video...and good luck
DawsonNewby316 What I think he's saying is that it's unlikely that you will become a professional supercross rider (You may don't get me wrong), I have been racing for about 3 years now (I'm 16 and I ride a 250r). Of course I want to go pro but that doesn't mean it will happen (It most likely won't), anyway, best of luck to you from Washougal.
Riley Hogle Dude you just should be happy that you go on the amazing sport Motorcross last summer i worked my ass of at a resturant just to get money for my Windsurf board ): anyway GL on your tour to be a pro don't give up.. Of course I want to go pro but that doesn't mean it will happen (It most likely won't), Of course you not gonna be pro if you think like that! same with you DawsonNewby316 GL on your career!
You should try racing B class at a local outdoor race....
So this is how they are made. Parents taking control and cultivate their child's dreams instead of crushing their souls. Good job Mom and Dad.
Proves how smart the dad is, his son can help him at work. XD
i like how they say he got a honda then they show a picture of some1 on a ktm
look better,,first,,you need something to know before you judge
as far as i can see,,you dont know anything about motors,,you have just some pic of geico honda,,pff,,he bought honda 50 like a first bike,, 2:16
Good for you bud !! Keep up the hard work and dedication!
Racing a A class race at a local track does not make you a professional racer
Ikr
It does when you're an official AMA pro with a professional AMA license (yes you have to have a license) and when you are sponsored by a large group of major companies to race in the in the 250 Pro class Motocross nationals (the same race courses as James Stewart and Dungey, not local tracks) and you go to Vegas to race in 4 different "A" classes.
That's a HELL of a lot more than most all riders
Maybe not but he's still liven the life😄
+seth newman you cant get a AMA professional license until 16 :) so thats all bollocks.
well he is better than u grs
Truly inspiring, all the best of luck. 😀
Well done mate. You're an inspirational young man who has achieved a huge amount through hard work and the guidance of clearly great parents. Keep it up mate. The world quite literally is your oyster. 👍
Props for pursuing your dreams. Motocross is a tough sport. So is Crossfit. Keep it up!
"Those who can, do. Those who cant, Criticize".
"Professional"
God honest he looks like my local C class rider speed
i agree but i didnt want to hurt his feelings untill his ignorant dad miss used literally i had no problem
Dis kid was 14 then, his 16 now, an its cool he got into riding motor bikes for sport so young! Win or not, but his training an tying to do his best, an dats what counts! y respect!
Cheers, Bro! Keep on riding! Nick - a skater guy wid the fins. :)
This kid was so cool at the beginning of the video then when it started to show him working out I got so pissed off because it reminded me of justin bieber then I sat there and realized that this kid does not do pop singing or stupid shit, he is a mx racer and I became happy again
lol
wow he can do 2 push ups,
man, i wished i grew up like that
Andrej Fišer dude im 11 and i have a Yamaha TTR125
I'm 10 and I got a kx 60
and a normal 50
Whis 79 same
Whis 79 same
I hope everyone knows that it is impossible to be a professional motocross rider at 14 because the AMA says you have to be at least 16
Probably an exception
@@globglab739 definitely not. It’s a hard rule.
Who needs Aldon Baker when you can just do CrossFit? Clearly Carmichael didn't know what he was missing.
Wrong. I did it I don’t recommend it
SIMPLY... You are an a amazing father. It's this simple people. Look at this young man now!!!
Wow, everyone's so hateful. He's a kid following his dreams, and the best part is he worked for everything he has, it wasn't handed to him. People need to find better stuff to do than bash on youtube videos.
I agree it seems most here forget he is 14 years old...so he will gain speed and ability in 2 more years. Motocross not my cup of tea, Also thumbs up that he has sponsors, I wonder how many people here complaining have sponsors?
Lawls. You're going pro guy. Are you sponsored by One andd Oneal! That's crazy, you;re so good!
Which treatment programme of the videos do you use? You make really good videos!!!
Keep it up, Dawson!
Great job! Keep it up!
Why are people hating on this dude. Cant any of you assholes be happy for someone? This kid is doing what he loves, he is sharing is story, and I am sure he is an inspiration to some people.
My sister and I have ridden motorcycles and dirt bikes since we were young. My sister is a great rider, 16 years old has a 125 Honda, would like to pursue motocross. Good luck to you and maybe we'll see you at the starting line.
Total goon, he's not a "professional motocross racer". He's a average C rider at Loretta Lynn's MX nationals...If he was a pro motocross racer, he'd be racing AMA Lucas Oil Motocross Championships with Wilson and Bagget and stuff, and he's not. That kid has a lot of pride saying he's "professional". For example; Adam Cianciarulo is professional.
Sam Thurman so true
Sam Thurman you are right he is not a professional Ryder
Sam Thurman exactly
Sam Thurman or Ryan dungey
well were you that good at 14??? He is not techanicly a pro but he is a pro for his age
I remember getting my first dirt bike boy I still have and i love riding
Hahaha good luck to newby but he is not a pro rider.i hope he stays safe but dont lie about your class u race because people will find out.
someone give this kid a full ride!
Good work bro
Bet u I could go pro by 14 if my whole family wasn’t broke asl🤣
Lucky bastard having these so amazing parents... wish I were you
that guy is awesome, he has my two passions motocross and crossfit. American people are the best. we don't have that kind of people in Argentina
Without going to Loretta Lynn's it's pretty hard to get big teams to sponsor you and really hard to go pro so yea this would be a miracle if this kid goes pro
Being a pro rider covers a wide range of riders. It's not just the top 20 or 40 that almost everyone knows their names. If the kids racing pro arenacross events guess what he has to have... A PRO LICENSE. Good luck kid. Work hard and let's see what you can do!
An actual pro rider wouldn't be riding a stock pipe? 5:04
Well done
I have a 125cc 4 stroke , im 13 and now my dad is teaching me how to be like You :)
To all of you who claim this kid "can't ride" or is "too slow": I envy you for your ability to judge somebody's entire skill set and future capabilities off of a 7 minute video, only half of which is him actually riding. The video is designed to sell CrossFit. Quit being patronizing.
I'm a 15yo kid on a 90 rm250 and will be ripping it up in Washington this summer at the nationals keep an eye out
Amazing
Ride and WOD on, Dawson!
So your telling me he "worked" for his bikes? He had a 250F, Supermini and 85? and a gym member ship? He isnt a "pro" either. B class maybe.
Not even b class
I like the family. Good "can do" spirit. I like that a lot. That kid is 20 now, and I don't see him at the nationals, but if he kept that can do spirit, he is probably good at what ever he is doing. He might be the last kid to actually make his own money to buy his bike. We did it like that in the 70's as kids, making money somewhere,--but they were new bikes.
lol he couldnt win a C race in florida
isnt that the truth lmao
Chad Cooper except people in florida
Chad Cooper Lol the two most talented motocrossers ever are from florida you goon
+Gabe Newell definitely not socal
Hahaha ohhh there has been a couple fast riders out of Florida so now all of the sudden everyone in Florida is the fastest around.
This kid couldn't even win a 250 Beginner race in California. What a joke. And all of the people saying "He is good" are the goons riding beater honda 250 2 strokes with black plastics.
Who cares what your riding as long as you can ride keep doing it you don't have to have brand spank in new bikes that cost $8000
toby wise 8000 god americas cheap
Perth_mx I'm not sure you're thinking of the same currency...
***** That's nearly the cost of a brand new car.
The price of bikes today is ridiculous.
I've always bought used, so I've never spent more than $2,500 on a bike.
Even back in 2000, the 2 stroke 250's were only $5,500 MSRP. Which is still $7,500 today.
thats true mate Suzuki's and honda's are pretty cheap but i paid over 10 for my yz 250f
he has come far is he now racing the amsoil arenacross series i believe
Nice 👍 work
I raced AMA in district 14 for 20 years
Can't turn pro until 16
An amateur can atleast ride on top of the whoops. This is far from pro.. good for his age but not even close to pro..
you are good at that
This guy ain't bad he's really good
O my gosh same first dirtbike
respect for earning money at a young age for his first bike. I worked 6days a week 40+ hrs to get my first rally car.
well done
Hi I'm looking about doing this as a sport would It be good and fun and what do I need to do to do it
That's what you call courage and determination
That's what u called being rich
+Ryland E tru
Can you do a whellie
Hes awsome
Is the vid of him riding in slow Motion?
he said "help throw that bike around", he never even scrubbed a little bit let alone whip a 250
3:52 Sounds like " My daddy nailed her"
I know
Hahahahaha
Class
ahahaha i thought he said MY DADDY NAILD HER!!! xD
Omg he's so cute💗
so my daddy mailed her dude you can just say dad but thats all you man keep up the good work man
how do I get into this ??
he is not professionell, he wears O'neal.
So your saying if he wore Fox he would be a pro??😂
that's so true.oneils cheap
LongDong McJohnson so that does not matter but yeah he is not a pro
LongDong McJohnson PPPPHHHHHHTTTTTT
so does wilson🤷♂️
The only boundaries are the ones we put on ourselves
That crossfit really helped him get the bike of the stand 😂
when i was 14 i was riding a TTR 125 hitting 20 foot jumps XD i was tiny
He's so cute ❤❤❤
Why is he wearing O'Neal gear and a one industries hat hmmm
I don't care what you do, if you have a mindset and drive like this kid has, you are going to be successful.
Yo that is sick
You have to be 16 to be pro😂
Fly Boy21 no u don't the kid believes in his self unlike other people
No they don’t I’m 12 I do the same thing as him motocross I’m the only girl at the place I got to and I love it
@@arthurseabrook5569 uhh... no, you actually have to legally be 16 to be a professional motocross and supercoss rider. Plus I watch the races on TV and I haven't seen him once on the sports channel or in the pro races, so this video is a total joke
@X4shotF24itanツ literally haven't seen them at all in professional racing.
@@arthurseabrook5569 that's not how it works buddy wrong sport
I'm 14 is a 500 a good starter bike
Where is he now?
how tall was he back then?
i want dirt bike
Almost anyone can learn how to be a motocross racer but a lot of people like me live in a smaller town with no tracks to practice
keep working,,good job ;)
He got a bike when he was three? I've been trying to get a bike since 4 years old and now I'm 13
This is the product of skill, determination and a shitload of cash
I want to be like you!
This kid comes to my races and races pro class. He does alright but he still need to hit the triples like all of the other pros
how tall he is?
name of the song?
i got a 2017 klx Kawasaki 110
kelly Dean where do you buy 110’s I didn’t know Kawasaki made Klx 110’s
that kid is living my dream... rofl :D
Same
christopher sobieck
Same
christopher sobieck whats rofl?
This guy is twenty years old now
You forget that this is a CrossFit channel, not a motorcross channel.
