What they leave out of this is their arrival at Gilmore's parent's house. They ask them about fusaka and they had not heard of it, which, combined with the knowledge that Jarrett has a questionable past, is why they decide that it's a drug and not for food.
“Next time. Next time, I’ll do things differently. Next time, I *will* find drugs. That’s the lesson to be taken from this, look harder! Look harder. The Meat Man never gives up” -The Meat Man
I love how Scanlan was so occupied putting up a facade that he never once thought of insight checking if they were doing the same. Just one "are they messing with me?". XD
@@myrmidonmamori N O P E I love Sam but you're giving him too much credit, and Matt not enough. Matt conned the con man, and It's great. Sam tricked himself because he wanted it to be drugs so badly and Matt happily obliged him.
When I listened to that part I was internally screaming for him to make an insight check before finalizing the deal. How bad it gets for Scanlan…oof makes it such a legendary arc.
“You may call me… The meat man.” I’m so lucky, I was just about to take a sip of my coffee when he said it. If I would’ve actually taken a sip, it’d come out of my nose
The best part of this whole thing, for me, is that Scanlan is battling through some low-grade manic depression through all of this. It's so wonderfully wrapped up in the pure charisma of the character and he interweaves it all so well without it ever feeling heavy. Whenever I watch these clips, I am always reminded of how powerful Sam's abilities as a storyteller really are.
Still one of my favorite things to happen in Critical Role history. I remember laughing so hard it hurt the first time I watched these episodes, and I still do. Long live the legend of the Meat Man.
Had they not asked, there would have been no other occasion for jarret to ask. The players asked for a side quest, and as a DM, I am confident he 100% he pulled this one from his ass. Just the way he said Fusaka the first time, he was making that up as he was saying it.
I'm so glad you included Scanlan going back to try and find the spice dealers. There's just something about the way Sam says "Dammit" after every set back makes me laugh
Taliesin (Percy?): I'm so worried he's going buy meth from these people. Sam (Scanlan?): I'm not going to buy meth from them! *NOT EVEN one minute later* Scanlan: Spice?
the most hilarious thing to me is if they just let Jarret give them some money this whole thing could have been avoided. I'm so glad that didn't happen, but the whole, for what of a nail, boggles my mind
Scanlan asking any merchant would have also prevented it or a single insight check on the people scamming him. So many mistakes had to be made to reach this outcome.
Sam: Am I feeling high at all? Matt, knowing full well that it's an actual spice and not a drug at all: Make a constitution check. His poker face is legendary.
😂😂😂 They have a bad habit of saying these things. Like when they described the DnDBeyond commercial as them being an 80s cartoon and action figures going through walls. Now they have a cartoon AND action figures. 😂😂
Well... Fusaka is I believe something we call NUTMEG. It can get pricey in larger quantity, is mildly hallucinogenic and in small amounts enhances the taste of meat greatly :)
The funny part for me is that this spice is actually really close to a real thing, Asafoetida. An herb used in Ancient Rome but now illegal in several places because it is mildly poisonous. It was also used mostly for meat dishes.
I love that Taliesin/Percy isnt worried about Sam/Scanlan buying. He's worried that hes buying meth from children. Priorities! "They were carrying fruit!" The reaction to Sam's deadpan "do you spice" though! 😂😂😂
The wild thing is that there is an excellent chance Matt just made up foosaka on the spot, kicking off this whole saga because he didn't want to have Jarrett ask for a bottle of wine or something.
Scanlan was the quintessential US tourist showing up in Jamaica or Amsterdam trying to score weed for like the 2nd time in their life. Also him getting frustrated at not being able to find the dealer and magic his way out of his shame was just pathetic, like me as a DM wouldve been like "sorry Sam not every character in my world is as stupid as you".
I also make dice! starlightdice.etsy.com
I love how everyone almost immediately forgot that Jarret told them that yes, it is for food.
What they leave out of this is their arrival at Gilmore's parent's house. They ask them about fusaka and they had not heard of it, which, combined with the knowledge that Jarrett has a questionable past, is why they decide that it's a drug and not for food.
Matt basically told them like a dozen times.
@@roboticdthat's in there
@@michaelj.mccall6530He did have them roll for a constitution saving throw. Probably to screw with them.
The FuSaga, if you will
Amazing lol
I certainly will.
Also.
Do you spice?
God fucking dammit.
You should be simultaneously proud and deeply ashamed.
Just wait for FuSaga: New Moon, when Chetney gets his hands on the stuff
“Next time. Next time, I’ll do things differently. Next time, I *will* find drugs. That’s the lesson to be taken from this, look harder! Look harder.
The Meat Man never gives up”
-The Meat Man
Can we all just appreciate that Matt Mercer was like "You're looking for drugs, fine, I'll give you drugs."
“Why aren’t you a crime kingpin?” Really hits differently post-C1 lmao
I totally forgot they even said that!
I love how Scanlan was so occupied putting up a facade that he never once thought of insight checking if they were doing the same. Just one "are they messing with me?". XD
I bet Sam thought that if they were scamming him he wanted it to work just for the humor.

"Am I buying just buying cinnamon here?"
"Yes."
Still one of my favorite things to happen in Critical Role history. I remember laughing so hard it hurt the first time I watched these episodes, and I still do. Long live the legend of the Meat Man.
Loved this crazy how it was just Matt making some stuff up and it became a whole thing
Did he confirm this?
Had they not asked, there would have been no other occasion for jarret to ask.

Scanlan: Spice?
😂 And then Scanlan went and found the REAL meth.
the most hilarious thing to me is if they just let Jarret give them some money this whole thing could have been avoided. I'm so glad that didn't happen, but the whole, for what of a nail, boggles my mind
Looking back... This is so true
Scanlan asking any merchant would have also prevented it or a single insight check on the people scamming him. So many mistakes had to be made to reach this outcome.
To be fair, this is very much a Scanlan sort of misstep. Make a mistake and then commit to it hard!

Matt, knowing full well that it's an actual spice and not a drug at all: Make a constitution check.
His poker face is legendary.
It'll be hard to tell if he's screwing with you.
34:45 "Remember, we met - but you did not meet the Meat Man"
22:48 "This is not an animated series, we have more than one pair of pants"... well, that didn't age well :)
😂😂😂 They have a bad habit of saying these things. Like when they described the DnDBeyond commercial as them being an 80s cartoon and action figures going through walls. Now they have a cartoon AND action figures. 😂😂
Gives further credence to Tal being a millennium old eldritch entity.
Taleisin- this is not an animated series 22:00
Not yet it isn't. But just you wait.
Seeing this on the day of the animated series release! 1/28/22 HYPE!!!🙌🏻
Just you wait...As a kid in the Caribbean I wished for a- sorry, wrong thing.
Well... Fusaka is I believe something we call NUTMEG. It can get pricey in larger quantity, is mildly hallucinogenic and in small amounts enhances the taste of meat greatly :)
Scanlan would be a great guest on Hot Ones.
The funny part for me is that this spice is actually really close to a real thing, Asafoetida. An herb used in Ancient Rome but now illegal in several places because it is mildly poisonous. It was also used mostly for meat dishes.
Apparently, it's still a very popular Indian and Persian spice, from what I remember of my food history studies.
This is why I love Scanlan, every interaction has me in tears. The Fusaka thing is my favorite moment in the series so far 😂
I cannot wait for this bit to get animated in LOVM season 2
Appreciate the quality content as always!☺️🤌
Thank you!
Badly Explain: Dune
I love that Taliesin/Percy isnt worried about Sam/Scanlan buying. He's worried that hes buying meth from children. Priorities! "They were carrying fruit!"
The reaction to Sam's deadpan "do you spice" though! 😂😂😂
Matt confirms conclusively that it is just a spice.
Sam: 'I'm upstairs trying to take it anally.'
Good ol' Sam. Committed to the bit.
22:49 That line is a lot more ironic now considering it has been made into an animated series where they all do were the same thing every episode.
Bring me A SMALL bit for COOKING. Dear God how
06:15 Funny that he became the meatman :D
"If it were any more I'd feel bad but it's only 50 gold. I'd feel like an idiot."
The clip for this from LOVM just dropped. And I’m excited 😂😂
😂😂😂. Do u spice?? Spice it??❤❤❤😂😂😂😂. Hella hardd
"No one lies to the Meatman!"
Still my favorite.
Those two guys are just like “we’ve scammed a tourist and made an easy 400 gold” and I can’t blame them honestly
And his face when he learned what he should have paid for the amount he bought. Now that was priceless.
He also lost 105 gold to the dice dealer the next day.
The wild thing is that there is an excellent chance Matt just made up foosaka on the spot, kicking off this whole saga because he didn't want to have Jarrett ask for a bottle of wine or something.
I sincerely hope this makes it in the animated series.
Matt has an amazing poker face.
22:48 famous last words Tal
amazing video!
22:46 IS IT NOT PERCY!?!
"Don't tell me what to do" what a freaking boss
Sad that legends isn't doing the spice saga
Looking forward to seeing how they portray this in LoVM.
God damnit this saga is amazing
33:35 you're welcome
Just missing the bit where Vex clocks that Scanlan's acting really weird and forces the truth out of him
42:00 and after. Jeez! No wonder we got Bard’s Lament.
cant believe he went on for an hour
It was over more than 1 session
It wouldn't have surprised me if he went on for an hour over a single session, but this was definitely multiple.
Can't you read???
This is amazing

Me: (snorts)
32:00 feels man 😢
