    Gallery gaskets: DON'T replace the failed ones with NISSAN original spares. Instead use the excellent metal composite aftermarket replacements.

    I've had a 350z hardtop and still have a 06 convertible. One neat thing that few people know about because they don't read the owners manual is: In hot weather you push and hold the unlock button and the side windows will go down so you can air out the car before you get into the car. Perhaps not a problem in Scotland, but a cool thing in Kansas City or Florida

    I've owned a 1986 300zx, 2005 350z, 2007 350z, and 2015 370z. I enjoyed them a ton. The 370z was the best performer out of the bunch, but the 350z HR wasn't far behind. The HR engine was a nice upgrade from the DE/rev-up.
    One very simple and cheap mod you can do to wake up a DE engine is to install an intake plenum spacer. The stock intake plenum slopes down towards the front cylinders and they get air-starved at high RPMs. By adding a spacer (basically a thick gasket) to the intake plenum, the problem is solved.

    • @Psythik
      @Psythik หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed. I've had cars with more power but the 350Z is much more balanced. It has just enough to get you going without being excessive. And unlike other sports cars of this contemporary, it handles like an absolute dream, even under aggressive acceleration. Just point the wheel where you want to go and it goes there without arguing with you over it. It's one of the most compliant cars I've ever driven.

    Lovely video thanks for sharing and what an example to present with.
    Also worth a mention:
    - Tailgate struts can be weak.
    - Oil pressure sensor known to give way.
    - Cam position sensors.
    - Differential liquid filled bush common for failing.
    - BOSE sub woofer amp resistor failing.

    • @jacquesc3166
      @jacquesc3166 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both sensors you mentioned tend to fail at very high mileage, never heard/read about a DE needing cam sensors before hitting 150K+ miles. All the other issues are true, but none make the car undriveable / leave you stranded... as opposed to same-era competitors from Mazda, BMW, Merc, Chevy and Ford.

    My advice would be to keep checking what's under the hood because over time, my 350z rocker valve covers were wearing out and I had to replace the valve covers and spark plugs and coils. Also keep a look out on the weatherstripping on the passenger side as they tend to leak. Other than that, it's a lovely car to drive and own.

I prefer it over my older 350z 04 which was fantastic too but actually used the same oil so i havent noticed any differance personally. No smoke out of either.

    Curiosity question: on the HR automatic transmission model, what is the red line limit on the tachometer dial?

    • @jacquesc3166
      @jacquesc3166 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      7,500 RPM. The 5AT trans actually 'prefers' manual upshifts at 7,500 over 6,800-7,000, line pressure is optimal and the upshift is smoother closer to redline.

    • @andrerousseau5730
      @andrerousseau5730 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jacquesc3166 Thanks for that. I did suspect that it was to provide for use of the manual shift mode. The DE auto is definitely red-lined at 6,600. It testifies to the rev tolerance of the automatic transmission that the 370Z is also red-lined at 7,500 given that it is effectively a stroked version of the HR 350.

      I've owned 4 Zs, including a 300zx. The 350z is a great car. They're not cheaply-made. They've very tough cars and tend to hold up well to abuse. The Z32 went out of production because it got too expensive and complex. The ZX cars went upmarket and occupied a completely different market segment from the original S30 cars, which were very simple and affordable. Nissan went back to the original Z market segment with the Z33 and Z34, and were better for it.

    • @ScottishCarClan
      @ScottishCarClan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! So the lower octane fuel is unlikely to do any damage. Cars leave the factory with the ability to withstand poorer quality fuels/bad air quality etc. If anything the engine will just pull the timing a little and you’ll lose a few bhp. That being said it’ll almost certainly run better and be a bit better for it to use the higher octane as it’s closer to the original parameters that the car expects.

    • @DaytonaBlueHr
