What is most worrisome isn't that there was a "failure" of the Secret Service; it is the manner of the failure that is terrifying. A hapless loser of a kid, seemingly acting on his own, with nothing more of a plan than making a stop for bullets and a stepladder, proceeds to penetrate security and comes within a inch of killing a former US president on the campaign trail. Just think what someone(s) with real tactical training, resources and planning could accomplish. US Secret Service just unwittingly demonstrated, to anyone with a grudge, exactly where the soft underbelly of personnel protection is and how poorly the fusion of USSS and local law enforcement is implemented.

This whole thing is just silly. This was a derpstate plot. Incompetent assassins Incompetent protection...Incompetent cover up. Peak prosperity proved this using the simple analysis of hard data given below (this should be easy to understand for any radar guy or RIO):
Multiple guns. Analysis of recordings from two different microphones can prove that there are probably 3 shooters. Not from the "sound" of the gunshots but from their spacing. Microphone 1 was closer to shooter B than shooter A. Microphone 1 and 2 both show the same delay between the shots from each of the shooters but the arival of the first shot from shooter B arrived sooner on the recording from microphone 1 than it did on microphone 2 ie:
      Mic1: gunA..0.2sec..gunA..0.2sec..gunB..0.1sec..gunB

During my police career, 1974-1999, I worked on several presidential protection details involving candidates, a vice president, a president, and one former president. During these details, we never had any direct comms to the command post. We could not talk directly to the Secret Service. It appears to be the same situation today. Had the close protection detail, known the Butler Township officers had a man on a roof with a rifle, the counter sniper teams would have known it. Things would have turned out differently. Seconds count in these situations. As a Monday morning quarterback. Whoever spotted the guy using a range finder, should have confronted him then. I know it is not illegal to have or use a rangefinder. In the context of this situation, it is suspicious. And I believe there was probable cause to talk with the guy. And before some counter-commenter reminds me of the 4th amendment. I am well aware of it. And I did not suggest violating that person's rights, just talk to him. "Nice range finder you got there. We had to strap a wounded soldier into one of the litters, carry him up the semi-steep hill, and then load him into our ambulance and get them to the Aid Station. We had 2 guys (me being one of them) and 2 girls so 4 soldiers in total, 1 at each corner to carry the litter. The two girls dropped the 'wounded soldier' more than once and we had to delay getting him up the hill because they were struggling to carry him up that hill.
I 100% think women belong in the military but there are certain jobs they should NOT be doing. If that soldier had really been wounded, dropping him and delaying the time it took to get him to the field hospital would have put his life in more danger. I read below different opinions on female protection officers. I'm a woman, I've worked for a police department in communications. This is my two cents. I can not imagine any woman wanting to take that job if she is in her prime and I can't imagine any agency wanting her if she isn't. I can remember the day, almost to the day, when I realized I was no longer in my prime. I was 41. We had a sudden animal emergency, one that my neighbor could see from his property and he rang us. We drove out to the field, my husband, myself and our 2 youngest children, that ONLY happened because we all just happened to be in the truck together at the time.
The area of the field with the problem was not near the entrance. My husband, although older than me, scaled the fence in 2 seconds. He is 6'2", I'm 5'4". I got up to the fence and I couldn't do it. When I was 21 I could have done it, when I was 31, but now at 41 with 4 kids, it was going to take me a minute to get up and over that fence. I didn't want to have my husband in that field by himself. Our goats were being attacked by 3 pitbulls from down the road. Blood was everywhere and goats were down. These same dogs had a tendency to escape, they often looked underfed and could be menacing but they never came too far onto our property. Animal control was called out a few times but could never make contact with them and here they were. Our newborn baby goats lay dead, a few big goats were suffering. I was yelling "NO and OH MY GOD, NO". My husband yelled at me, don't come in here "I need you take the kids and the truck back to the house right now". It was high stress/I was frantic/the kids were crying. I didn't want to leave him alone to handle this situation, worried the dogs could turn their attack on him. We always worked together as a team in all kind of emergencies like water pipe breaks/tornado damage but at this moment he didn't need me . However, he was the boss of the apple sauce and I did what he asked. After so many years of marriage I knew when he asked, "Can You", I could negotiate, but when he said "I need you to", I just did it. He had a shotgun but I was worried..I drove the kids back towards the house but before we got there we could hear bam, bam, bam pause, pause, pause bam, bam, pause pause bam. I was confused as to why he was discharging that gun so many times. Well ,it didn't take long for me to find out the reasons for all the shots. I understood then why he sent us back home. He, as a man, made so many instant decisions that were the right ones, decisions that I could not have made. As a wife, I didn't want to leave him with some crazy killer dogs but at that moment the kids and I were a big distraction. All the crying and screaming. I don't know what I was thinking at the time but I do know I was thinking like a woman. Killing those dogs first thing, at once, it just didn't occur to me. Having to dispatch seriously injured goats and a few babies that were dying...I would not have been able to do that. I tell this long story because if a woman can have a job where she offers to use herself as a human shield in order to protect a man from an active shooter, then she must not have a man or children at home that need her. If she has children that are grown up enough that she feels they could make it without her....then she is probably too damn old to be quick on her feet. If a woman has never married or has no children then maybe...Men and women think and act differently (I know the liberal folks will hate me for saying that) but I've seen it/experienced it in my persional life, through my police work dealing with both men and women in high stress situations and near death, also by raising sons and daughters. When there is a problem, men will just handle the problem...of course women are very capable of handling all kinds of problems but we have a small hesitation factor that I believe God put into us. We can start to mix emotion into our decisions. We can vasilate between what we think is the best option for the situation, only to realize option b isn't too bad either but wait if things go wrong with b they could really wrong, better stick with A. We also don't like to see others get hurt or be uncomfortable. I know all women don't think alike and not all women think like me. I know that women can be trained to think more like a man but wouldn't it be easier to just hire a man? I'm old so maybe I'm just behind the times. I had to edit to say that yes at 41 I could tell that I had reached my prime and was starting my downward trajectory and dang-it I think at 41 men are in the middle of their prime. Yup...it's a bit of a cruel trick that mother nature plays that was surely designed for the preservation of our kind. And dang-it, my husband at 62 is still so sexy and strong, and me not so much but he's not going anywhere, I'm too much of a good cook and after 35 years, I know all the things he needs to be peaceful and content.

There's an amusing line that I have heard from time to time. "In an emergency, why are the women and children evacuated first? So that the men can solve the problem in silence". Yes, it is obviously over the top. However, the biology hasn't changed. Men and women think differently. Men are genetically predisposed to function differently. Some will argue otherwise. Of course, they have never been in life or death situations. Training can overcome the natural differences with some. Others, not so much. You will see this displayed when it hits the fan...

Idk anything about the range of roles avail, but as a general supporter of equity (as corporations are lacking the incentives to self-correct when there are legit issues) and all that,
It seems no-brainer to evaluate mission-critical physical protection as specs defined by physical attributes & capability. Women can do some things, if we look globally at alternate scenarios too. But some limitations are physical.
Our culture has a real issue though.
If 30% SS jobs are not physically rigorous etc, then fine. We don't have all that info.

(Although I did notice that Biden's service detail yesterday was indeed all tall white guys, lol). The people covering a President shouldn't be too short to cover his body. People in the service and secret service should be able to all pass the same fitness standards.

I think the "DEI" issue is misrepresented by the loudest, most obnoxious versions of the complaint (and partially misrepresented here), but the fact that someone was acting as a "human shield" for someone much taller than they are is a problem. Putting your hand up, like we see them doing in the video, isn't going to stop any sort of bullet, let alone a rifle round.
I don't care if Secret Service hires whoever they want to hire. What I care about is whether they put the right people in the right job. If the person they need to shield is short, great, get a bunch of short agents. If not, you need tall people. There's plenty of roles for short agents besides direct body shielding: working the crowd, perimeter, comms, observation, reaction force... you get my drift.

The real DEI issue is that they use the exact same lines and reasoning you used to open the door to integration, and then they change the standards to get the numbers they actually want.
The Canadian military is fully integrated, and their infantry formations are functionally all male. That is what using the same standards actually means. The Secret Service desire a percentage so standards will have to give.

Ward, I do not see how any tree is in the line of sight between the northern counter-sniper team and the sniper 150 yards to the north. I see one rather small tree just to the west of the sight line, but it does not apear to block the counter team's view. Please give further details as to why you believe the tree is an issue. Moreover, can you confirm that it was in fact the southern team that nuetralized the sniper? I am skeptical that this is the case, because the southern team have there rifles set up facing south. How would they have time to reposition themselves to face north?

FWIW, I've looked into this. From where the body of the shooter was found, aerial shots of his backpack and blood stain on the roof, he was on the Far Eastern end of the roof, probly the most eastern 15-20% of the roof. if you look at overhead footage, that area would have been blocked by the most western tree in that line of trees in between the shooter and the barns where the counter sniper teams were located. It makes sense to me that the North CS team wouldnt' have been able to see him, but the South CS team could have, just barely. Still no excuses for the failure, but it does in fact look like the tree blocked the view of the North CS team.
