Yes - You MUST see the Live version, it`s Sooo much better! The interaction between the Audience and ABBA on Stage - Pure Joy! PS I'm Swedish and "biased" You might think, but No. In the 70:s, we rock musicians were supposed to Hate ABBA, which I did, kind of - it was easy just to Ignore them, (no Internet or TH-cam You know). But in 1991 I Really Listened to ABBA for the first time, on a CD, with Good Earphones, and was Blown Away. "One of Us" made Me Cry ... And since then - ABBA is up There with The Beatles.
Definitely one of their best songs when sung live as all the comments mention. Agnetha’s vocals are insane on this and I love the quiet section where you can hear the difference in Agnetha and Frida’s vocals.
OK dude now listen...I guarantee your pleasure if you also try this in the Live version as performed in 1979 tour that's a dual set in transition 'Does your mother know/Hole in your soul" INSEPARABLE, That's a real rock- bomb! Also we're still waiting for the live performance Australia '77 of "Why did it have to be me".Both very popular in the Abba fan community. Btw i hope you read this comment and keep it in mind..😊
I wish I could like this comment 100 times. Those songs live (especially those performances) are otherworldly. It will really be like listening and reacting to entirely different songs.
@@chrishaas2376 Oh thank you!truth to be told, this has to be seen and it's so exciting for many of us to share the joy of watching these. It's part of Abba's best live footage. And It's 'the real thing in their prime reign" that will never be replicated.😊
A Teenage Hip-Hop fan rocking out to ABBA and smiling the whole time makes me so happy! You smiling so much and loving ABBA is a breath of fresh air. You have great taste in music, sir.....

Please check out the live version too! That album cover is for their 5th album where this song is from. I love Agnetha’s screaming. This song and I’m A Marionette seem to go hand in hand to me.
A true Abba gem, have always loved it. ABBA The Album is one of my top favs, the release of this LP and the cover artwork coincided with the simultaneous release of ABBA The Movie (live in Australia)
Hole in your soul" (1977) is fantastic, a Hidden pearl in "ABBA The Album". it has special things to highlight: 1) it's the opening song of "ABBA The Movie" (1977) 2) it's the opening song of the TV special "ABBA in Swizterland" (1979) 3) and now, as of May 2022, at the Voyage concerts at the ABBA Arena in London, UK, it was included in the set list at the beginning. If you liked the studio recording, I invite you to go and see it live, as many here have already suggested... live it is a Masterpiece, even superior to the studio recording. In the set list of the recital at London's Wembley Arena in November '79 it is chosen for the final number, (joined in a row with "Does your mother know", of which you will do the reaction on the next album "Voulez Vous") and last November 2022 ABBA edit their live performances at Wembley Arena in November 1979, included on their youtube channel It's absolutely outstanding ABBA You will see ABBA like never before and after these, ABBA says hello... but then they'll be back for the special numbers, with "The way all friends do" (you'll see them on the Super Trouper 1980 album) and the worldwide hits "Dancing Queen" and "Waterloo". ABBA really does what the lyrics say: They bring to the audience the delivery of their soul with the power of their rock! But back to the recording although ABBA rocks at a superlative level, with nothing to envy to the colossal rock groups, including the incredible notes of Agnetha, what I like most of "Hole in your soul" is its memorable melodic bridge. What Frida and Agnetha do there is absolutely heavenly, they are literally voices of angels (to contrast the energy of the verses). And there is a TH-cam user who has cited this bridge as one of the most wonderful and magical moments in modern and contemporary music (and it is). "Hole in your soul" had been considered to be released as the lead single from "ABBA The Album", it is said that there were already promotions, but finally they opted for "The name of the game", and so it remained as a track on the album. I have enjoyed your reaction once again. See you in the next I hope to your reaction to "Move on" another underrated song in the same album (I hope to you accept me on Instagram to sent my message with these request) my best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South America
please do the live version with does your mother know hole in your soul, you will see abba at the top of their game as a live rock band.its outstanding.
So glad you got to this one Chase. One of my go-to tracks for sure. This may just be my fave ABBA album (which is a tough call), but every single track is awesome. 'Move On' is such an uplifting and beautiful song, one of their lesser known songs. The list of tracks is endless.. not sure that you have landed on anything from 'The Visitors' album yet.. another completely (more sophisticated) different ABBA sound.
If you check out the live version, make sure it is Does your mother know and hole in your soul Live version. Over 1.3 million views. So much better than the audio versions
A MUST SEEN!Electric performance with such energy, unbelievable ,regarding that was in the end of the concert and after more than an hour of playing live.
@@helenpetersonAw!totally.I nearly was in that '79 tour audience but finally failed. My parents didn't allow me to travel i was too young,so my 2 older cousins flew to Paris, late '79 and caught them.Twas an amazing night they still cherish.
@@alexioverdo5225 I would have been totally guttered. I am from a huge family and my parents struggled financially so the closest I ever got to ABBA was watching Australia (my neighbouring country) benefit from them. I just wished they had visited us here in New Zealand and maybe just maybe my dream would have come true.
So glad you reacted to this its amazing in my top ten of fav ABBA songs and Agnetha and Frida's vocals are awesome. You are correct also they are so amazingly versatile, they can do anything and you will see this when you discover more of their music (you have only scratched the surface so far btw). The only thing they never did was heavy metal (though im sure they could have if they had wanted to).
Again just an observation,..audio tracks usually don't get high views in utube especially if they have not been released as singles or haven't got an official video or tv performance.Of course that doesn't necceseraly mean they aren't good ones.Just saying.
have you tried looking at the mixer levels in the desktop? Make sure they are all the way up. You can have your browser level all the way up, but if the mixer levels are down too low, it wont make a bit of difference. Love your ABBA reaction videos! Keep em coming!
Contrary to what people say in the comments when they’re moaning at you, always react to the audio or music video (if there is one) first. If you enjoy a song, then do a live version. ABBA were masters of the studio. The studio version will always be the best (except in rare circumstances). Keep doing what you do! I love it.
I agree, but I'd go even further and say listen to the audio version before watching the videos. That way you'll keep discovering hidden gems like "AngelEyes" and "As Good As New", and you can always do the videos as a separate reaction later... two for the price of one! Speaking of ABBA's audio tracks "2 for the Price of 1", usually leaves people gobsmacked!
imo It's fine to do the audio first so to compare but yes this one really deserves a live reaction it works reaaaly good (with DYMK stuck together,of course)
This one is playing on large differences in dynamics, between calm and rocking parts. And the bridge in the middle is a small work of art in itself, and extremely difficult to sing. Note also how the bass stays still throughout the melody, until it is finally released at 5:35. Note the effect it makes.. like an airplane taking off.
The mid section ballad part was taken from Get On The Carousel which was discarded from being recorded for the album. Never a great fan of Hole In Your Soul with it's chip monk sounding verses and therefore don't care for the live version either.
No ABBA tracks are “underrated” or “hidden”, they're one of the most popular groups of all time. It's you who are late to the party, not everyone else.
To be clear, I love this song, of course especially the live version was one of the concert highlights. However, then as now, I found the studio version to be overproduced: the magic of the voices is gone, especially the male ones: alienated, too Disney-like. Agnetha's voice is already produced too cool on Lay Your Love (like the song), and Frida's on No Doubt. One of the very few terrible ABBA songs for me is Lovers (Live A Little Bit Longer), it starts interesting, but then somehow the over-produced voices appear, typical of the disco wave. If you're looking for a polarizing song, then do it.
Sorry - but The Music is faint in the Background and Your Comments are roughly 50 % louder. If I turn up The Music to Normal volume Your Comments are Overpowering.
Oh dear! 😐You really need to do some research before choosing which version of an ABBA song to react to. There's a far, far better live version that most TH-camrs use for their reactions.
The Live version takes this song to a whole new level.
