    "I think there are levels that most people never think they would stoop to, that they would stoop to if they had a hungry child and no other way to support them." FACTS.

    lol I watched "the hate u give" on a flight from Brazil to Portugal sat next to a random old lady who only spoke Portuguese and when I started crying she slid a candy onto my tray table and that made me cry my eyes out even more haha

    I have literally never related to someone more with your rants about children, especially in books...and in life.

      Sameee - we need to normalize women not wanting kids 😩

  • @WhitneyDahlin

    There's nothing wrong with not wanting children! Heck there's nothing wrong with not even liking children! And I love how self aware you are about it! Waaayyyy too many people find out they don't want/like kids AFTER they have their first child but it's too late then! I think so. many. parents. secretly wish they had never had kids. Truly. So they pretend being a parent's an amazing they post about how much they love their kids and how much they love being a parent on social media basically trying to convince themselves. Instead of telling about how hard and exhausting and thankless and never ending it truly is.

      @kayhaven4710 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Oh my god this is SO true with my parents!! I feel like they NEVER had the discussion of at least how many they wanted.
      My mom came from a big family, so it made sense that she wanted to have a ton of kids. My dad came from a smaller family, so I think at most he wanted maybe at most three, NOT SIX!!
      And at some point, I feel like my siblings and I were the glue that held my family together.....and it fucking sucked.

    • @kayhaven4710
      @kayhaven4710 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I also feel like I lost a decent amount of my childhood because as the oldest, I suddenly had to start taking care of my siblings. Now I honestly wouldn’t mind that too much, except I wasn’t ever allowed to be a kid at some point. My mom CONSTANTLY was telling me that if I sinned and slipped up (we were a religious family), I would lead my siblings astray aka hell or some shit like that.
      I’m so incredibly angry sometimes that my mom EVER thought that was ok to do. But my first therapy session is this week, so I’m hoping to slowly learn how to heal and forgive.
      But never forget.

    I absolutely feel you about MCs that have children. It's such a turn off for me sorry 😭 not the escapism I'm looking for at all!! If I wanted to experience children in any way I'd have my own, and I don't, which is why I don't have them! 😂 Maternal instinct? Don't know her

    I feel you about the kids though. Lmao. Like, I can read about a lot of struggles and different problems a character can go through. But kids? Nah screw that I'm out. 😂😂

    a wholesome review,
    also your take on kids was me, mirrored in a white girl’s face, a mood. Just seeing my younger than me neighbour with her accidental TWINS!!! makes me go all twisted legs meme

      @LilyCReads10  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Accidental twins sounds like something that would make me accidentally jump off a cliff. God save your neighbour, what a surprise 😅

    i was kinda shocked to see so many people didn’t like the babies in the story lol. i actually LOVED this book and I thought that the introduction of Seven and Lisa’s pregnancy spiced it up, along with all the other struggles Mav went through. The fact that it was realistic (and maybe too realistic) actually made it more intriguing for me. I really love Concrete Rose. I got it from the library and was going to get The Hate U Give but i couldn’t find it lol

  • @PriscaL

    "leave him in his carry-on case" hahaha the baby sounds like luggage which I guess isn't far off

  • @sommerfeldttt

    re your kid rant: people should treat having children as more of an emotional and financial investment rather than something everybody ends up doing in their life. it's also important, though, to acknowledge people in maverick's position, where the privilege of making a fully-informed decision about having kids isn't available because of a lack of resources.
    (i'd also like to note, i'm white and middle class (and I haven't read concrete rose), so I don't have a very good perspective on that sort of experience. i just thought I'd put in my two cents)

  • @N.Traveler
    @N.Traveler 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    This review was spot on. I could have handled a chapter, heck, even two chapters of baby care, but not the whole freakin' book! It felt incredibly repetitive because of the caretaking of the baby. When I went into this book and read it would be about Maverick and his gang history I expected some Breaking Bad level stuff, not a 101 on parenting. It's realistic for sure, but a bit too realistic for me. I agree the second half was way more interesting and it was cool to see the characters from THUG.
    I've read On The Come Up as well (a while ago) and I've never disliked an MC more lol. But that's just me. I think Concrete Rose is better, but The Hate U Give still takes the cake for me.
    Anyway, hope all is well in Italy. Currently reading Eat, Pray, Love which is all about Italy and really makes me want to go there haha. Wish you the best!

    Always super happy to se another video from you, great review and honestly as someone who normally reads nonfiction, this series of books on your recommendation sounds quite appealing as more grounded and diverse fiction borrowing form daily life, I'll definitely give it a go. Thanks so much and have a lovely day

    I can totally relate to how you feel about kids. Except I I don’t find them cute. Babies are ugly and kids are even more so when they’re annoying. Sorry not sorry 🙊

    About the kids, same. Children make me feel like I have *no* idea... like at all, nothing, because Idk what to do with them and it's stressful, so yeah, no thanks hahaha

    love how you read this a while ago and still have really interesting thoughts!! i think i would love to read this after i eventually finish THUG (feel free to roast me honestly) just to be with those characters and see them when they were younger because i've never read something like that and it sounds sooo good !!!

    I also dislike other people's children. I do not like them in books, or films, or real life. They need to be old enough to act like a tiny person (realizing, as I type this, that I just read Shuggie Bain & enjoyed it) Also, you look stunning 😍

    plsss I’ve found my people! I literally loathe the introduction of babies or children or anything like it in stories. Whether movies, or books I don’t want ittt and i will immediately stop engaging in it as soon as I hear “i was feeling nauseous” BYEEE. Idek why cause I don’t even mind babies irl but they’re not part of the fantasy man lmaoo, we want the romance not reality of dirty nappies and screaming children. Stick that stuff in the epilogue if you must but don’t deter the whole book for the mc to become parents.

    I’m the same when it comes to other people’s kids, ‘ew there’s a child’ unsubscribe. But really I did unsubscribe because the girl kept feeding her loudly chewing husband on her beauty channel.

    Am i the only person here who don’t hate children? Sure it stress me out af when they only crying and needy in the book (or irl) , but sure I can babysit for a an hour or two 😂, any way when the MC is -18, that can be something I wouldn’t like very much
