Gotta love that Otharri is a mechanical opposite of Syrix, the phoenix commander from New Capenna. Has lifelink instead of a burn effect, has White instead of Black, and recurs itself based on battlefield conditions instead of graveyard ones.
Kethek is probably one of my favorite commanders from the set. I just love the value of sacrificing creatures that reward you when they die, like Living Lightning or something like that. And Otharri is as well. It’s such an interesting commander and can really be hard to deal with because of the graveyard ability and haste. Love the design.
I completely agree with Otharri- I was shocked by how much I liked this card when I first saw it, especially considering it was an alternate commander in a Boros tokens precon deck, a style of deck I generally have no interest in. I think his design is so interesting with loads of avenues to explore.
If you remember from my grist deck. I have a soft spot for insects. I was so hype to see vishgraz but I'm not really into poison counters. You making the point of just making a blink token deck made me think about it and I think I might give him a try. I don't think insect tribals going to be great, but I might throw some more insect synergies in there.
I've been getting excited to build a proliferate poison deck with some of the new cards, with og atraxa as the commander. You've changed my mind and now I'm going to go Ixhel. It seems way more interesting, and I think I'll be less likely to get targeted and killed, so much thanks to you sir.
At first I was like -“dudeeee, you can play better card instead!” but now with each video I am like - “this guy knows how to have fun”. Everyone can netdeck with 40 staples, but you are so laid back that it became my fav video to pop on and relax after work! Keep it up! 😅
Recently watched your underwhelming commanders video on Oviya Pashiri, and realized there was a super cool way to build her since brother’s war. There are a good number of creatures or construct token creators that care about the number of artifacts you have, and Oviya has a pretty expensive activated ability. So… powerstone tokens. Ran the deck at my FNM, using the few powerstone makers in green, like Karm, and populating/doubling them with all green’s token strays. So much fun.
Ovika for a goblin slide style deck would honestly be pretty fun. Any excuse for playing Goblin Wizardry is a win for me at the end of the day. Love those two little dudes.
Yesss so many winners but as an Otharri Main I can’t agree more! Basically any time I open packs or shop for singles I’m asking myself ‘can this work with my Otharri deck(s)?’ Great video.
Also surprised but not surprised the dragon , chiss isn't in here being from the 'commander set' part of the set as all sets get now , affinity for your commander and affinity for artifacts it hits off top 5 is something you don't see much especially in the command zone. But then again it's a mono red artifacts matter commander which we have a fair bit of so maybe tht makes it uninteresting following the color pie is tough.
Funny 4 of these are from commander pre con , 1 of these is a jump start exclusive being 1 of 2 commanders available in that. This set peeps giving heat as being another commander lite set but it's really not lol and the dominus cycle being legendary seems more of a balance thing then shoehorning commanders , I mean for standards sake just 2 dominus if the same color both easily being able to get indestructible in the same way tht you could build around would be pretty difficult to try and play into.
Otharri is going to be a house of a commander I feel like! I was stoked when I saw that card. I’ll be building otharri when the set releases and 100% intend to include neyali in that deck as well
Ahhhh I absolutely love your takes on these. Honestly, I think Ixhel is going to be one of my favorites to build. I do have a quick question. I know you were saying you weren't a huge fan of the "If you do something once, do it again." Sort of effects. So basically the Dominus cycle and Elesh Norn. What are your thoughts on Tekuthal? I know he is that sort of effect, but he has an effect that we haven't seen before with doubling proliferate triggers. Just curious of your thoughts on that specific Dominus 😊
Does Ovika work with Karn’s Sylex so players can’t pay the 3 life for ward? If so, that would be a fun include basically giving your commander hexproof.
I gotta admit, running Skrelv in a 1v1 match has even my roommates optimized Atraxa deck struggling to keep up. It’s hard to deal with a commander that’s hitting you with poison counters on turn two. Even once he gets blockers up, all I have to do is name a colour with skrelv and I can usually slip through his defenders with my other toxic attackers and sooner or later its’s GG.
Nah, you're right that there are a bunch of boring legendaries in this set. I wasn't even planning to build around any of them, but your Glissa video inspired me to start my own version of her. I was already planning to get a copy of her for my Falthis/Halana deathtouch tribal deck, but now I'll have to grab two copies.
There's zero chance Glissa would NOT be on this list. I did come around on this one after some further thoughts; always gonna be attentive when Demo procs a Golgari commander. Def gonna make an Otharri deck soon; been looking for a decent Rebels commander for awhile
How would Kethek work in a Mishra deck? When Mishra creates the 4/4 waveform creature that has to be sacrificed at the end of the turn, if I had Kethek in play, would I be cascading into another creature if I sacrificed the waveform? I guess the real question is: What is the mana value of a token?
Yes, if both are sacrificed at the end step as a triggered ability you get to choose the order since you control both effects. The mana value of a token is 0 UNLESS it is a copy in which case it has the mana value of whatever it coped.
Wait you don't know where neyali will go in that has boros in it's color? Jetmir,Ren and seri, Edgar Markov, ishiin, najeela, Rokiric, hofri, duke ulder.
Honestly I think this set was 100% made for commander lol. The entire dominus cycle is straight up commander bait. Praetors as well. The new 2 drop mana dork.
Not necessarily beeing legendary and beeing a commander has to be the same thing. What I usually look at is if the card is a build arround for commanders, the right colors, replayability, resilience.
Just because a creature is legendary, it doesn't mean it's been designed for commander. Some of them are Legendary for other reasons like lore (named characters are almost always legendary because it wouldn't make sense for them not to be) or legend rule balance in other formats. Legendary supertype has existed a lot longer than the commander format. I think the mindset of "every legendary is designed to be a commander" is skewing your perspective a little.
Not sure what I enjoy more, the actual content or the intro jingle.
His intro is quite the banger isnt it
You could use Glissa to remove counters off of either useful Saga's or Enchantments with Cumulative upkeep(remove age counters).
Dark depths 😮

Would really like to see a Kinzu of the bleak coven deck tech! She looks like such an interesting commander to build around
Neyali is probably gonna be the best card in my Rokkiric deck... all my 4/4 golems getting double strike sounds juicy >:3
Nice to see some Skrelv love.

I'm glad I'm not the only one tired of trigger doubling commanders, I really hope this set puts that to rest for a while.

Otharri instantly caught my eye and I have an entire extra combat focused deck on order for them
Ahhhh I absolutely love your takes on these. Honestly, I think Ixhel is going to be one of my favorites to build.

Can't wait to build an Otharri deck with Lin Sivvi as secret commander!

Petition to start calling Skrelv - Bugger of Runes

I used Grand Metatect in a Myr ramp mana sink deck and uh it was pretty good.

Unctus whould work nice as a vehicle commander or pingers

Everyone double check that you’re subscribed! TH-cam somehow unsubed me, and I missed a couple of your vids :/
I think Ovika and Coat of Arms could go crazy
Wait you don't know where neyali will go in that has boros in it's color? Jetmir,Ren and seri, Edgar Markov, ishiin, najeela, Rokiric, hofri, duke ulder.
Kinzu works well with Nightmare Shepard, no? Wouldn’t that make 2 copies of the exiled creature?
Honestly I think this set was 100% made for commander lol. The entire dominus cycle is straight up commander bait. Praetors as well. The new 2 drop mana dork.
Unctus looks like a blast
Kinzu is actually in my mono black rat commander deck. Lol
I always wanted to make a blue red token deck that wins by playing day of the dragons
Not necessarily beeing legendary and beeing a commander has to be the same thing. What I usually look at is if the card is a build arround for commanders, the right colors, replayability, resilience.
Atraxa is a food chain commander Plain to see
Unctus is Breya's new BFF
Otharri is amazing
Great video!! But you are mispronouncing Phyrexia, you are pronouncing it like Phyrixia, there's an E, not a I. Sorry it has just been bugging me
My guy, have you heard how he pronounces "Saga"? It doesn't bother me haha, but I think he secretly mispronounces things on purpose 🤣
He’s an idiot
My main commander is Roalesk and Ezuri will be in my 99, just not good as the commander
When I'm at work and see that the video is posted 12 seconds ago :
Nice... I guess
👍
Why are they afraid of the word Protection now?

He said a couple of times in the video that he knows the set wasn't designed for commander.
@@r3ptilicu516 He also says that all the legendaries are made to target commander players which isn't necessarily true.
Neyali going straight into my isshin tokens deck. Attack trigger and give my tokens DS? Say no more. Oh and otharri as well.
