I seriously thought that Chelsea is a very serious, rude and attitude showing person but from this video I think she is a very cool and outgoing photography who chose to pick up the camera because she loves it. Awesome.
THIS IS GREAT! Just what i needed. Not that i practice studio shooting or anything, but its good to know what/how it goes behind the scenes. The pictures look great btw! Thanks Tony and Chelsea.
Awesome video, great tutorial and love the new "style" and feel of this video, more of a documentary kind. Keep up the great work you're doing, love your videos!
I love this, the work through and flow are things rarely ever shown. The lighting, model and photography is stunning and exemplary. It's just (and I'm sure it's just me) the lips don't seem right. The color is great, I dunno, I know nothing about this side of things. But that isn't what this video is about, it's about the flow and how a shoot works, and I'll be referencing this for a long time to come :) Thankyou :)
Excellent video Chelsea, very informative and well nariated. Wish if the video was longer and given more details on the lighting setup along with the agle you shooting from (camera, light, model angel)
Glad you pulled that off Chelsea, I have a hard time just getting random beautiful ladies in NYC to take 5 minutes and accept my business card for a shoot.
A great video that I really enjoyed. The lights are very interesting and very reasonably priced, I’m looking for something I can do more still life with at home when I’m unwell. To me, what makes Chelsea and Tony work so well is it seems there’s almost photographic opposites attracting. Chelsea comes very much from the 'art' direction, her images are always organic and natural. She has shot some of the most beautiful images I’ve seen shot on TH-cam, the model with the freckles springs to mind. Tony comes very much from the 'science' perspective and an attention to detail that I’ve only ever seen in people diagnosed as having Asperger’s syndrome. This attention to finite and scientific detail is amazing and a quality I’m totally envious of, it might save me a lot of time in post if I worked on it harder. It would also help me understand the technical aspects of cameras and lenses better. I’m not saying that Chelsea doesn’t have a knowledge of the science or Tony doesn’t understand the Art, there is an obvious middle ground where they overlap. What I’m saying is they make an amazing unit, and together they have amazing strengths that are hard to match as I don’t know another channel that covers such a blanket understanding of photography.
I have all three of your books, I've watched all, (or almost all...), of your videos, more than once!, I just want to say Thank You so much for Giving us so much knowledge, Being such wonderful people and Sharing your talents with me...us.
Holy crap this was amazing. The production value on your videos normally seems pretty high but this one was just insane! I really liked the way it was shot, cut, and structured. Felt very professional but also entertaining. Great work team!
Great session - one quick question - when the camera is on the tripod at 8:30 I think it was, Tony turned it from landscape to portrait. What equipment was used to do this. Ta
Great video, tethering is so the way forward. Love your tether set up! We currently just use a laptop as we have to hire different studios. One day! Beautiful images :)
Hi Tony I'm at a point that I want to buy a backdrop, but after hearing your comment about the backdrop I want to know what backdrop is best. What is your suggestion?
You should talk with Aputure about possibility to review their single LED lighting fixture announced at NAB. Will be an expensive thing but generates hard light and compatible with standard modifiers.
Tony.. Can you please tell me where can I get the same portable table with mount that you mount the 24" Dell monitor. I would appreciated you post a link here. I am very interested in buying it.
I love all your videos, very informative easy to watch and I learn loads from you both! Keep up the good work :-) P.S if you need someone to look after your 5DS-R, just ask I won't mind 😉
Chelsea do you have a video on your tethering setup? I would like to do the same but I only want a monitor connected to my camera and not my pc/Mac is that possible?
Chelsea, I have nothing but good reviews for the Wacom tablet but many people have had problems with the USB connector on the tablet side being hard to connect physically, have you had any problems like this?
At 9 minutes-- The apparent focal length difference is the focus breathing issue with the Nikon 70-200. I use a Nikon 80-200 D lens which doesn't seem to have that problem.
hey i have question i have canon 700D. when i click images from my cam ad zoom them up those picture are not sharp and don't have fine details. its because of my camera or what? how can i fix it help me :-)
both are good, comparing the price though the Nikons higher price cant really be justified. The tamron 70-300 is much cheaper but is about the same quality. I have the tamron and can greatly recommend it
"Traditional strobe"? :-) I think constant lighting came first. They had tungsten bulbs which were hot. But they work well still, and they have a distinct look.
Hey Tim Kelly has a good idea. He flanks his bg with auto poles, or something like that, it's been years since I've seen the vid. But I use auto poles and then large Home Depot A clamps and stretch those suckers tight. Kelly does that with muslins and makes them shoot like canvas. I want Annie Leibovitz's old beat up green canvas back drop that you see in so many of her shots. 90% of the time I'm using paper now so it doesn't matter.
I know you guys have tons of other videos that you want to do, but maybe one you can add to the list is lighting tutorials. ie. From basic off camera flash to strobes, etc...
Sometimes they're used to a camera and just use that. The D810 is great for studio work and landscapes just like the 5DSR, but I believe the 70-200mm canon and nikon lenses have different reaches too so that can throw you off.
Me being a model i can tell you at the initial shoots, a model is always nervous and confused about facing the camera ... But with more professional shoots she learns and her expression improves posture improves and she faces the camera gracefully ... Emily is still young... A small town girl like me... Who might have the erge to shoot but obviously lack of guidance... Miss. Chelsea is a good guide for her i see... Please dont compare Miss Chelsea with Emily as you cant compare a fruit with a bud ...

brilliant video of how to work with a model and how to use and assistant. thanks Chelsea and Tony.
You win the internet for today.
Really interesting shoot. You gave a real insight into what goes on behind the scenes.
Chelsea why are the lights so bright, Tony was totally blown out!
I can imagine everyone just roasting Tony in the studio about the sunglasses 😂
Next thing you know he'll be saying to get the Tesla cap on her!
He kind of roasted himself... :D
Excellent production, very well done!
Great video as always and the cinematic montage is awesome thx for your afford

Nice video! She is a beautiful model!
I liked this shoot a lot; very informative and well done. :) :)

Tony you are such a cool guy !!!
You guys are really inspirational. I loved watching this. I'm going to be doing a styled shoot soon so this was great to see. Great work!
I have all three of your books, I've watched all, (or almost all...), of your videos, more than once!, I just want to say Thank You so much for Giving us so much knowledge, Being such wonderful people and Sharing your talents with me...us.
I used large collapsible backdrops like a large reflector that keep the taughtness so no sagging material
Holy crap this was amazing. The production value on your videos normally seems pretty high but this one was just insane! I really liked the way it was shot, cut, and structured. Felt very professional but also entertaining. Great work team!
Really good video! thanks!
Great session - one quick question - when the camera is on the tripod at 8:30 I think it was, Tony turned it from landscape to portrait. What equipment was used to do this. Ta
great work guys
i am seeing a canon and Nikon cams which makes me wonder again about the skin color tones
Beautiful, thank you so much.
How is this free? You guys are incredible!
great video!!! love to see studio videos! do you guys do workshops? jw that would be pretty cool
I noticed Chelsea holding the lens from the top when trying to focus. While the usual way would be to place fingers under the lens when focussing.
What type of compensation would be appropriate for the model? Specifically, when the pictures will be on Stock Photo sites?
Great video, tethering is so the way forward. Love your tether set up! We currently just use a laptop as we have to hire different studios. One day!
Beautiful images :)

loved the video, but wanted to ask the mechanics of the how the photos are instantly moved to the pc, screen and how is everything hooked up ...
sdp.io/tether
very cool... thanks
Tony.. Can you please tell me where can I get the same portable table with mount that you mount the 24" Dell monitor. I would appreciated you post a link here. I am very interested in buying it.
I loved the video.. very beneficial
Thanks!

Chelsea do you have a video on your tethering setup? I would like to do the same but I only want a monitor connected to my camera and not my pc/Mac is that possible?
how bright do the constant lights get? I shoot medium format, and shoot between f/16-f/22, so I need a lot of light.
hello, big fan from portugal
just a question
wich was the program (tether) and the screen you guys was using ?
nice work
are the LED panels adding doing anything?
Tony & Chelsea, which stand is your screen on please?
Good video. If I had a studio tethering would be a must. LOL Which Wacom? pad do you use for photo editing?
Thanks. It's this: sdp.io/wacom
So the Medium is the one?
Chelsea, I have nothing but good reviews for the Wacom tablet but many people have had problems with the USB connector on the tablet side being hard to connect physically, have you had any problems like this?
At 9 minutes-- The apparent focal length difference is the focus breathing issue with the Nikon 70-200. I use a Nikon 80-200 D lens which doesn't seem to have that problem.
hi thx for your terrific vd which continous lights model did you used for this shoot ?
It's sdp.io/pergear
thx for your reply during the shoot you seem to use a software different of LR to show photos on the small screen am i wrong ?
Lovely video! Aside from that, Tony what shirt are you wearing? "Crop it like it's ..."? :D
Crop it like it's hot! amzn.to/1S5RpD2
oh wow ,, well made ,
you are using dell tablet or laptop for display in this video? model number?????
Looks like a good time
where I can find your strip light, and what brands is that?
Noticed you were using Capture to shoot tethered, any reason not using Lightroom for this?
CaptureOne is WAY WAY WAY faster
are the people in Lightroom aware of how slow their tether is, or they dont care? lol
hey i have question
i have canon 700D. when i click images from my cam ad zoom them up those picture are not sharp and don't have fine details.
its because of my camera or what? how can i fix it help me :-)
by the way I want to buy a book of yours. where can I buy and how to pay it? please answer this question 🙏🙏
You can buy it off amazon as an ebook or a regular book
Nikon 70-300 or tamron70-300 which is better than the other
both are good, comparing the price though the Nikons higher price cant really be justified. The tamron 70-300 is much cheaper but is about the same quality. I have the tamron and can greatly recommend it
"Traditional strobe"? :-) I think constant lighting came first. They had tungsten bulbs which were hot. But they work well still, and they have a distinct look.
Osm, 🇮🇳 😍👌
"Everyone busted my balls about the sunglasses." HA!!!!
hahahah ;) Thumbs up for "Almost Forgot"
love the bts format. very informative without getting bogged down in minutae. I hope you didn't fire your assistant for suggesting the sunglasses ;-)

Steve Glass no that’s dumb
Nikon lens break down?
I know you guys have tons of other videos that you want to do, but maybe one you can add to the list is lighting tutorials. ie. From basic off camera flash to strobes, etc...
We have a ton of lighting video tutorials in Chapters 3 and 6 of Stunning Digital Photography.
I've been watching your videos for months now, just started photography in January. Probably going to buy your book soon
Model did great!
Am sorry but the sunglasses worked so fine
How big is your octa ?
she resembles Demi Lovato, beautiful look, loved the video, I would kill to intern with you guys for a month. Awesome footage as always
BigmoDaco Demi lovato if she was a man. You’re right
How do you access, spd.io/emilypost?
Why did you go with a camera other than the 5DSR to begin with?
Maybe because of the huge file size. It's a pain to work with these in Lightroom. It was not necessary to have huge file sizes for this shoot I guess.
Well the file size of a Nikon D810 isn't small either..
But if your not gunna use the 5DSR in the studio there is almost no point owning one.
Sometimes they're used to a camera and just use that. The D810 is great for studio work and landscapes just like the 5DSR, but I believe the 70-200mm canon and nikon lenses have different reaches too so that can throw you off.
Sooo when's the sigma 50-100 review??
+pat dinco we're still (eagerly) waiting on our loaner...
+Tony & Chelsea Northrup don't forget to try it with tc.
Tony you looked really tan was that from being in Cuba.
Middle playing in the background
why emily dosent smile while she get her photo session !
Not all pictures have to have smiles :).

Mahasweta Banerjee you’re not a model. Shut up please.
