One thing that a lot of TH-camrs don't understand that the growth of a channel takes time. Nothing happens overnight and you're gonna need to nurture your channel like a plant. You need to water it daily, provide sunshine, and most importantly, have patience! 👌🏻

    Hi Cathrin,
a little tip for the batteries. I have 3 batteries for my Canon and I used a masking tape (same as you did on Lacie) to label them "A, B, C" (could be 1,2,3). Basically it's for even rotation and me knowing which battery I need to charge next or change to next. A died, B died so you know you gotta change it to C, without trying two (one dead, one charged) etc.

To anyone who has a Canon M50 and has the issue with tripod plates blocking the battery door, I can not recommend enough buying an Alzo battery door plate for this camera! I had the issue for years, but this plate simply shifts the tripod mount to the side do you can still open the door with a tripod plate on the camera. It's like 20 bucks but it's a lot cheaper than buying a new tripod or camera

Loved the vid. Have the same things only ALL Nikon. Back in 2012 my Dad passed. Before he went we discussed what I might do with my share of the inheritance. Long story short, I told him I missed photography as a business. Back in the 70’s I was in a prestigious dance company any did the portfolios for the other dancers. Loved it, and so did they. Dad said he would be happy for me to do that. The following year he died. Two years of mourning later set about doing what you did only with Nikon, Manfrotto, name it, I bought it. Then 'I’ got ill. I was in and out of hospital for years. It has only been this year I have been allowed home. Meantime my wonderful wife, Josie, built me a fully equipped studio. Now I have all these golden boxes from Nikon to open and courses to look at to make me a certified pro again. Good luck to you, I shall watch with interest. And I shall start a YT page to catalogue my progress. Kudos on your work so far. All the best…🧷

For anyone who owns the Canon M50, the best purchase for it is the 22mm pancake lens! No need to upgrade the actual camera itself. And the great thing about the Canon STM 22mm lens, it fits without the need of an adapter lens.
It’s the best lens really for any kind of filming, vlogging, as it gives a nice bokeh to the background and even photos come out top notch with it!
When it comes to cameras, it’s more about the lenses vs. the actual camera body. Canon M50 is a mirrorless camera, so unfortunately some original canon lenses won’t all fit it. But in that case they sell a mount adapter lens that you can purchase if you end up finding a lens that you really want. I own the Viltrox adapter in order to use my Canon STM 50mm lens, which is a lens used more for photography and close ups/headshots.
One last thing: make sure you buy extra battery packs. Canons battery that comes with the camera does not last long at all!
Hope this helps somebody new to video equipment in general. I’ve been really learning a lot this past year. 💗

I frequently watch the short term sales at B and H. Over the past few years, I've only made a couple of impulse purchases that way. However, a few weeks ago, I bought a Lume Cube Panel Go Bundle that comes with a stand. I'm very happy with it. There are two small led light panels that have adjustable brightness and temperature. I see that the price is back up to where had been and it's listed as back ordered, but if anyone finds it on sale again, it's been really convenient for me to use.

You should buy "dummy batteries" for your cameras. They look like a battery with a cord coming out the bottom and plug into an AC adapter to power your camera constantly. Since you mostly record indoors in your home, you could get one for each of your camera types and you would never have to worry about your battery going dead mid-take. I love them for streaming too... I use one with my Sony ZV-1 and use it as my primary webcam for Zoom and Teams meetings, live streams, and YouTuve videos. Buying one now for my new ZV-E10 and also have one for my Canon 90D as well. They are really so nice compared to using batteries when you are at home or in a studio. Save the batteries for when you are out and about. :)

Random heads up, I learned from other friends that you actually can connect Blue mics to your cameras via the mic jacks.

I love that you've got a motherload of tripods, I feel like I'm starting my little collection too! 😂 I'm surprised you hand-carry your camera when vlogging and don't have it on a tripod - your lens stabilisation must be really good. I'm considering the Pgytech Mantispod Pro next as an all-in-one vlogging/ mini tripod. C'mon Black Friday! 👍

oh my gosh yessss when it comes to vlogging, I always just hand carry it and it's not too bad! when I'm stopped and have the option, I will rest my elbow on a table or something for a bit of support and less wiggle but otherwise, it's not bad!

@@CathrinManning Good to know! I've got the M50ii with kit lens and the mega-crop with extreme digital stabilisation on means I need to get the camera further away from me. soooo... it's either changing the lens or use a tripod. I'm going the cheaper option first. 😜

Thanks for the video, Cathrin. Can I just confirm, as a big fan of your videos and content, do you use the 'kit lens' for your main channel vidoes that comes with the Canon EOS M50 mk II? Many thanks, keep up the good work.

Which camera do you recommend for the first camera that's around $500, I do some vlogs then mainly sit down videos. Thanks for your help ! Love your videos

Question...you shoot with memory cards and edit on external hard drive. Do you leave the raw footage on the card? Thanks. Love what you do!

Yoy should give a tour on where you store all this equipment on the vlog channel!
