Cathrin.. My skincare channel blew up thanks to your tips and i now have 50,000 subs.. Thank you so so much xxxxxx
🤩 congratulations
Wow.. I have seen some of your videos actually and love them.. Deserved x
I agree.. Doing rough cut prior before doing anything else saves a lot of time and makes editing 10x faster
I agree with you. Right now I am editing one of my videos and since I was adding images/rough cuts, it felt like I was slowing down. I’m going to follow this technique once I get back to editing💯
what kind of video editing program are you currently using right now?
Same for me, I can't imagine editing it all right away!
Totally relatable. Half of the work for me is even STARTING to edit because I know how long it’s going to take me to edit. Great tips! Thank you!
Thank you! This video has literally changed my whole way of working... I was exclusively using iMovie to edit all my videos and it was so limiting but the jump to Adobe Premiere Pro just appeared too hard. I have been using Final Cut Pro for several weeks now and I am so glad I made that leap of faith, it's like photoshop for video and I can be so much more creative with editing style now!
I have also created an account with epidemic sound for my music and sound effects, which I am loving, when before I would be searching 'royalty free music' on youtube and taking it from there. I have also bought new hard drives and transferred all my files externally rather than store them on my iMac and my computer is way faster now! Another tip is not to shut down your computer at night but just put it on sleep as it allows updates and maintenance to take place at night and not while you are working.
Thanks Cathrin for being a reputable source of information and recommendations that I can trust. :D
We find this to very real and candid on what it is TRULY like as a TH-cam content producer. M A N Y hours behind the computer screen editing (that is in addition to the time it takes to write up a good outline for video content, and then filming the clips you need also). So, anything you can do for yourself to have templates and quick go-to's to make you video's in your editing software is a very good idea!
Well done being real Cathrin. You did great here. :)
I've been following you and taking your tips for months now. I finally got a new phone, an s21 ultra, and I just made my first video ever, also with music from epidemic, and it was the coolest thing ever to see!!!!! You are AMAZING!!!! I've been addicted to your videos, you know so much!!! And are the biggest help in the world!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
YES THE MINDSET!!! Treat everyday the same! That’s been a game changer for me!
TH-cam QUEEN 👑❤️ What's up my G
hey hi what's up!
how long does it take you to edit your videos?!
EDIT: I misspoke in the beginning when I said you don't want a copyright strike! I meant you don't want a copyright claim. obviously you don't want either, but when it comes to music it's a claim, not a strike 🤗 if you want to learn more, check out this article cause it goes over blocking, muting, monetization impact, etc. - www.safemusiclist.com/can-use-copyrighted-music-youtube/
Long 😅
6 hours!
hours…like 3 hours for a 10 minute video
Used to take 3 days give or take with my schedule. Now I go for simplicity an hour at most
Quite sometime considering I go back between different apps and I have to export videos like 3 times until I export the FINAL product
Oh, I know the struggle. Focus/creative mode is sometimes tough. I try to start first thing with a nice cup of coffee! Love your videos! You are far busier then I am
Same with me! I always drink a cup of tea while editing and keep my videos short as long as I'm in the learning process of editing. 😊
Every time I put a video together I kick myself for taking so long. About 8+ hours for 20mins. I do use two cameras running simultaneously and b-roll etc. double camera setup actually helps massively with jump cuts and overall edit options and FCP makes it very easy. Thanks for sharing as always.
No judging yo work flow but wanted to share my experience for a channel that is the size of catherines a desktop pc is a great investment due to the fact it edits, renders faster and also avoids having to create proxies.
I understand some people prefer final cut so going for a desktop apple might just be way out of budget.
As well editing from an external hdd slows down alot of your processes .
A good idea might be edit from your internal drive and just save your export on the external. Great stuff Catherine :)
Editing takes me forever and it’s definitely what keeps me from staying consistent. I did become a lot more efficient from vlogmas too!
editing really is time consuming but it's gotta get done!
YUP, some weeks/months I have so much good footage and videos planned but the editing takes so long that I get off track with posting... WORKING ON IT!
I’m just getting started with my channel and you aren’t telling no lies! The editing process can be tedious. It’s definitely a full time commitment.
I do most of the same steps with getting the idea, rough cutting and then coming back for music. I LOVE epidemic! Total game changer. I recently did a video for another channel and it really made me realize how much better I could make the videos when I could use epidemic vs free music, such a better vibe
BEST ADVICE EVER for video making / filmmaking -> the editing should start BEFORE the camera ever starts shooting. (Paraphrasing) I remember this in a film class years ago but forgot.
THANK YOU FOR THE REMINDER! 🙂🐶 🎥
Hi Cathrin! First, you were a reason for me to take a leap into the world of TH-cam! I just launched my first TH-cam video yesterday! All your call outs in this video was spot on, had I seen this video before editing, def would have saved more time! But learning every day! So thankful for your content! THANK YOU!
Another person just starting out on YT and REALLY appreciate your content! I am a video tape editor from way back in the day and I am getting my spark back. Thank you so much for your insight and experience 👍
Thanks for pointing out being a TH-camr isn’t always glamorous, it’s so true! This was an awesome video, I really enjoyed it!
This was a super interesting look at your editing process! Editing is such a big part of this whole TH-cam thing, but I’ve never seen anyone talk about it. Thanks for sharing!
I’ve also been thinking of epidemic sound for a few months, but I feel like this vid was my sign to take the plunge haha
Loving the details with the process on this video👏🏻
I just invested in the same external hard drive - so worth it 👏🏻
This is genius! I've been working on a video for Braga in Portugal... and it's taken me 2 weeks! I needed this helpful video, thank you! - Mandy
I spend so many hours editing it’s crazy but always worth it! 🤩 Thank you for sharing a genuine editing process!
By the way Cathrin, congrats on 400k!! Thanks for being awesome 👊👊. Howdy from Sydney Australia
I can relate for sure! I am always in front of my laptop editing even if I am not always in the mood! Far from glamorous indeed! :) That being said, I am kinda addicted to it now, I love creating and uploading (I dreamed of doing this when I was a child so it's understandable)! Love your honesty, we needed this! 😅👍
yes girl love that! you definitely have to have a passion for creating if you want to do TH-cam!
@@CathrinManning AMEN!! If you just do this hoping to become famous, maybe you should try something else ha, ha! 😁
The not being in the mood part 😭 ughhhhh so key
Yes! I've been waiting for this! And side note, I love that epidemic sound is the sponsor for this one. I signed up for it after watching another video of yours. Love their music selection! -Ang
oh yay I'm so glad you got started with them!! seriously love their platform!
I just started working off a hard drive 2 videos ago and it’s been LIFE CHANGING 🙌 Thanks for these tips Cathrin!!
it's the BEST! seriously saves your computer from overflowing with too many files
OMG! I spend soooo much time searching for the perfect song. I’ll watch the same clip with different music like 100 times before I’m satisfied. My channel is still super small, so I haven’t really been able to justify a paid music service to myself, but maybe I’ll try out the free trial. Great video. Thanks!
Ohh, I’m also in the Birmingham area and I’m not originally from here, so not a ton of friends yet. Nice to know there are other TH-cam nuts like me around. 😊
Thanks again! Really helpful, quality content!
I know you said it, but it will be great if you do a tutorial of how to set the camera at the beginning and how to do the test shots and what to look for. I will like to see your process
I love that this video is helpful for both iMovie people and Final Cut Pro! I’m still on iMovie, probably won’t upgrade for a while and this was very helpful 🤗 also I never even thought about stopping the camera when I make a mistake 🤦🏼♀️ so many awkward long pauses that I have to sort through hahaha. Thank you so much!
You have no idea how much you have helped me! I just started a channel and have tons of content. Now on to perfecting the editing! Thank you!!
This video helped me a lot, I use to spend so much time looking for the right stuff and slacking in editing my video but then I realized how important it is to not spend so much time on small cuts. Well thanks, Cathrin!! The content shared in this video helped me heaps!! Keep it up
YES! for the most part your audience doesn't notice the little things that you do in the video. sometimes they will, but the average viewer doesn't really care for crazy editing. just keep it simple and get that video done!
@@CathrinManning yessir I’m gonna focus more on it now haha
Loved the video , I actually love all of ur videos ! Cathrin Do u use any color grading luts for ur videos ? They are sooooo bright and nice 😍
I appreciate the video. Although my time spent editing takes longer than I wish it did, your style mimics how I edit my videos as well. Cutting out the fluff and creating rough drafts of 2-4 segments of my videos, then sticking them all together has helped with the editing process. Adding titles and music last works well too. Thank you for sharing your process. Best wishes
currently in an editing rut! This video has given me motivation again
Wow…. I was just wondering about this yesterday 😅 . Thanks for the video!
This Thumbnail is awesome lol because, the Face Your making in the " Reality " Pic, is the exact Face I make when im editing .my back always hurts when im done because for some reason i hunch when i edit. P.S. i wanna say Thank you for everything. I got Monetized A week Ago and your videos was defiantly, the reason i was able to get my watch time up and understand youtube analytics, I started Ranking in search above 300k sub Channels . So Any One Reading this Cathrin Videos Do work. So Take notes and actually Apply Them to your Channel. P.s. I am Going to Try watch All your ads as a Thank You!
oh my gosh that's amazing!! I'm so glad my videos were helpful for you and freakin CONGRATS on getting monetized!! that's so exciting!
Congratulations!
@@CathrinManning Thank you! , keep up the good work helping people 🙏🏽
@@drawingstyle6327 thank you I appreciate that
This comment made me smile a lot. Congratulations 🥳🙌🏾‼️
You have the BEST tips and they are so realistic and filled with great information that we actually want to hear and I want to say thank you!!🤓
1,000th like!! Love your content, Cathrin 👏🏼 You're such an inspiration.
learning to edit and finding my own style took me forever! this was the reason why I uploaded my first video just now, after almost 6 month of trying. your videos helped me a lot during this process, so thank you so much for all your work 👏🏽😊
I've been going back and forth on maybe doing vlogmas just for the sheer editing experience I would get from it and having to do such a quick turnaround, this video has def tipped me in the direction of doing it!
oh yes!! definitely do it! it's forces you to edit faster and not overthink the little things cause a videos gotta get done!
Vlogmas made me a better creator all around. You get more comfortable filming and talking to the camera and get better at editing!
epidemic was a life changer for my channels as i used to spend hours searching in youtube studio
So informative! I think most people don't realize how much work youtube can be!
Clutch, so many great editing tips, thanks for sharing. all your editing videos score.
Thanks for all the advice, one more thing to add. Time Bolt an app that auto deletes all silent parts automatically has been a life saver for me.
lol Cathrin, i definitely have to do the rough cut of the full video first as well. Enjoyed this video, thanks for sharing!
Compound clip function is the best in creating overlays to repeat across projects!!
Yes! That is exactly the way I like to edit too. Do a type of rough draft then add the flowing things!
I am loving Epidemic sound! Thanks for the link!
I was missing your videos so much!! Finally, I will watch 'em now❤️
hahahah I upload every Tuesday over here but if you want more, make sure you follow me on instagram and check out the vlog channel!
That video was exactly what I needed! Thank youu! If I could ask, I would love if you made an updated video more into detail on how to adjust the settings on your camera
Surprised you edit on a Lacie HHD. I have tried a bit, but then I wanted it to be a bit faster so I used my Sandisk SSD, but then I just realized the new M1 Macbook Air has a faster SSD than even the Sandisk so I just edit straight off the internals, but right after finishing, I move it to the external hard drives. That way I can keep one video at a time on my hard drive (if I have multiple filmed but not edited, I'll put it on the Sandisk, but it all goes on the Lacie when it's done! Makes my workflow a lot faster and can even get by with the base 256GB internal since I almost never have even close to the 80-90 GB that's available (after all other programs).
I also keep assets I always use on my internal harddrive, which is included in the 160 that's used almost all the time
your hair color is so awesome!
Yesss, love videos like this! I really need to figure out how to reduce the amount of time it takes me to plan, film, and edit a video. It takes me like two days just to complete one damn video from start to finish.
Yes doing the rough cut makes it sooooo much easier. I need those external hard drives.
Super helpful, I need to check out your editing quicker video next 😊👍
love seeing your youtube tips and schedules! do you have timeblocking tips doll
Learning so much! You forgot about creating the thumbnail, but enjoyed this.
Your main channel videos inspire me so much!!
Awesome! Thanks for another fab video.
Love this video!! Super helpful for getting started… keep making videos, Cathrin! Your videos are so encouraging!
Omg perfect timing!! I was just about to edit but ofc I will watch this first 💖💖
hahah have a great editing day!
This colour looks fantastic on you x
Yes, I use to go through and do all editing right then. Now I do a rough cut and then go back. It’s so much faster!
Great tips i have a bunch of footage to finish and this will make it faster 😀
Thanks Cathrin for all your hard work. You have helped me throughout my learning curve for my channel.
You are just so unbelievably helpful. ❤️
I love your red bee sweater! Where did you get it?? It is so cute. Also thanks for the editing tips, I always spend way too much time editing because I do not have a good organizational strategy for my video clips. I will definitely be getting an external hard drive and following your file organization. Also, the rough-cut tip is very helpful.
i dont know why..i always love ur video contents.especially ur speaking style...tht's so fast and i enjoy it...im ur fan..:-)
Before I started youtube I had no idea of how much time I would need to put into editing! Hopefully these tips can help me out so thank you so much for sharing! It's always interesting to see how other people edit 😄
Fantastic video. I really appreciate you sharing your process!
Thank you for being so helpful for us! I’m starting out my channel and still relatively new and it takes me literally HOURS to edit even a simple video 😂😂😅😅
I try to take Sunday's off but I end up doing some sort of work on that day haha. Balancing different social media platforms on top of editing videos is a full time job in and of itself haha
it seriously is a full time job. there's a lot of work that needs to be done!
incredible useful and unique informations! thanks! 👍
Hey Cathrin, do you find your eyes get sore? 😵💫 Or neck pain?
Thanks for sharing! Loved this video! :)
Thanks for sharing your editing process, I pick up so many amazing tips for workflow from you!
I can so agree with the messy bun and always editing! Late nights are real! I can admit my editing process is a little different but I also had the problem with my computer filling up before I started using a hard drive. I called apple and had them help me wipe out the Imac and restore it so it works flawlessly now.
Came here from Clancy Burke’s video and now I’m binging your videos even if I’m not a TH-camr
Thanks for the tips! Small youtuber here working hard on my channel. To all the small youtubers out there, we got this guys!!!
Yay here early and so excited to watch till the end..looks like a fun content and of course as always you are an awesome human apart from being an awesome TH-camr 👍🏻❤
hahahah thank you!
OMG! i use the exact same editing technique! I always during editing go through it like 5 times and the first time just the cuts and cutting out the bad parts!
Thanks again. I am like you, I can’t do all the edits all at once. I have to do hard cuts before I can begin with details.
Thanks for this video Cathrin
I have, literally 14 videos to edit
Weirdly, I find the hardest part of editing the ergonomics
I am really indecisive about doing it on the sofa, or armchair or sat at desk with external monitor or now my standing desk (which I thought would break my edit drought!)
Maybe I should try cutting in the bath
Anyway thanks for keeping the videos coming
Good video. I agree that it's best to do multiple passes. The first thing I do in the editor is to go through doing a basic edit on each scene so I have the building blocks ready. Then I know if I have to re-shoot anything or go shoot anything extra. I didn't do this in the past and gave up on some videos because I was getting lost.
Thanks so much for these honest insights "behind the scenes." I just started with my channel and I keep my videos currently very short, so that I'm not too overwhelmed with editing. It's really time consuming. 😅
Yep that's what my weekends look like too! 😁
Great video. Love your videos ❤
Hey Cathrin Manning this is a good Video. Thanks for sharing us your Editing process. Keep the videos coming. As always luv u Cathrin Manning.
I love her authenticity
Omg when I read the title
Of this I was so excited! I love watching these videos. And I edit on my phone which honestly is great because there are so many more things that you can do than people really think. I almost feel as though my editing may look like it’s been done using final cut but it’s just my phone!! Anyways, excited for this video cathrinnnnnn☺️😅
oh wow you use your phone to edit?! 👏👏👏 more power to you! that's so hard to do!
I do the rough cut too first. I liked the honest work calendar.
This video is so helpful!!
That thumbnail is SOO accurate!! I need alllll the editing tips!!
Thanks u so much for this video about editing im not gonna forget u appreciate this it really motivated me
Editing takes a long time! Respect for grinding through!
it really does! that's something that surprised me when I first started with TH-cam!
This was really helpful! Definitely what I was looking for ! Thx
Thanks for this helpful tips!
I'm at the part when you're chatting about colour correcting and using your camera settings. I'd love to see how you learn about your camera when you purchase a new one.
Now these songs are going to be on everyone’s videos. 😆
