    a HUGE thank you to everyone educating me on the use of the word "chav", something I'm ashamed to say I've never looked into or ever realised was derogatory. If this is in your vocabulary, I recommend you research the history of this word and how it is rooted in classism. I apologise, and will no longer be using. (and as I say, keep educating me! There are no creators on pedestals here. Thankful that I get to learn and unlearn so quickly.)

      You should definitely read "Chavs the Demonisation of the Working Class" by Owen Jones. It is a really important book about the history and deeply derogatory nature of the term. It is shocking how such classist language has seeped into everyday flippant comments and perpetuates a sense of snobbish hierarchy.

      Thanks for the tip Gudrun, it will be completely ignored. Jones is a radical Marxist loon who's rethoric of hatred against our way of life is only worthy of mockery and scorn.

    Just a PSA - don't randomly go to some guy's tent (even if you're with friends) especially when you think their high, ESPECIALLY in a different country. I work at music festivals and I get it - they're places to have fun, go on weird adventures and meet loads of new people but this whole ordeal makes me so worried that this is a 'normal thing' that people joke about. You have to be really on it at festivals bc even if you think you're a good judge of character, people really can just flip from one extreme to another and that's when things get scary. Just please please please be sensible and as Jade says - don't be "polite" or "nice", get out of there and tell as many people. as. you. can. (news travels quick at festivals and it's important to protect other people!!)

      Safety ain't a joke, people!
      Sad as it sounds, young women are particularly vulnerable to being manipulated, or pressured into unsafe situations.
      Thank goodness Jade kept her head, and was never alone with that guy, no matter how "spiritual" or "harmless" he seemed.
      My alarm bells went off, the moment she had to disclaim "he wasn't creepy" and she "didn't feel unsafe".
      I mean, it says something, that she even had to say that?
      Bursting into her space unannounced, calling her "his soulmate", and telling her "the stars aligned" for them to meet?
      I've heard that before, and that was from the survivor of an abusive relationship.
      That was how the perpetrator asserted "ownership" over her (as "HIS soulmate"), and love bombed her, before they officially got together.
      This dude could be perfectly harmless.
      Or he could potentially be a predator.
      Either way, not ok, and glad Jade was with a friend, and kept herself safe.

    Festivals are my most favorite hobby. Especially working on them for some money, food and free (backstage) entry. There is no job, that is more fun than this one. It is like holiday and travelling. work is so easy going because of the people you meet. Funny and open people they are, strong characters. Love it. So i have an unlimited amount of festival stories which keep me going until the next festivals.
    once me and my colleague met a guy from the jägermeister band backstage, who invited us to their show. In the evening we met up after their show and went back with them to their tourbus with some free drinks. In the middle of the night the crew of 15 people told us that they had to play another show for the VIP and press people. And if we would like to come with them. Of course we agreed :D they gave us the classic orange jägermeister shirts and some instruments to sneak into the area in front of the security guy. It worked. Damn we were inside, i thought it would be more impressive, but there weren't any famous people as far as i could see. But still we were inside. Incognito. But we didn't have a job, hanging around was no option. We decided to give out free shots, got some from the main bar. In the end we were sharing a small amount of shots with the press people during the small concert of the guys. trying to animate the audience for some party. Which was kind of successful and fun (and embarrassing) , because nobody knew us. After all we sneaked out again, got back to the bus, high on vibes, sharing some more drinks and stories with the guys of the band. That was an fantastic evening. :D
    Check them out on TH-cam. The Jägermeister Blaskapelle is quite fun to watch :)

Funny stories I had: a local tried to cheat me in a card game; offered money to take luggage cross the border; met an UK ex-pat working as an escort; couple of draft dodgers on run from Italy; a local who took vacation time from work to show me around; a sugar cane farmer who got me to work on his farm & got me to buy everything, found out later he supported himself by meeting tourists at the beach this way, a women on way to Brunei, her colleague wrote book about it, 'Some Girls, My Life in a Harem'.

    Sorry Jade - it’s a bit much to describe people at UK festivals as “chavs”. Think it would be helpful for you to look into the language you use and the class dynamics and hatred that it implies. It is a word which has been historically used in our country to demonise working class people and the stereotypes associated are harmful. Chavs by Owen Jones is a useful book on this

I went on a night out with a flatmate last year, it was just us two, and her drink got spiked; I was always near her and neither of us saw the man actually put it in her drink but she definitely got spiked. Fortunately we were both ok, even though it was hard getting home (a dodgy uber driver noticed that we were both hammered and tried to get me to withdraw money from an atm, then let someone else in the car instead when my card didn't work).

    • @lgm14
      @lgm14 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      bc there was a bit of a debate going on: there’s not as much awareness or conversation about classism in british media so a lot of the time people aren’t aware of the pejorative and derogatory implications of their words, and the way that they reinforce power dynamics. my comment was asking jade to look more into the term and to make it more explicit in the video e.g in the description or as a note so the video counters classism rather than reinforces it by normalising words like ‘chav’. by leaving that word in uncritically, it is endorsing classist attitudes by suggesting that this word is ok to use. by not doing so, this video remains complicit rather than taking this as an opportunity to learn and to spread education to others who might not have known about the classism behind this word in the first place :) even though there’s rarely a consensus on words like this, it’s clear from the numerous comments that this is an issue, and it’s important to be aware of the implications and stereotypes that this word perpetuates. like others, i recommend owen jones’ book on this

    • @jasminestarbuck3383
      @jasminestarbuck3383 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      lgm the word chav really doesn’t enforce any classism at all, it is literally a description of a form of subculture/style people openly call themselves chavs, I really do think if you’re so concerned about issues like this you should contribute some attention to actual problems surrounding inequality, rather than devoting so much time to protesting things like this

    I actually met my roommates (now ex roommates sadly, but the building got demolished) at a festival. It was the last day of Down The Rabbit Hole an amazing festival in the Netherlands and I just kept bumping it this guy and this group of friends, I didn't talk to him, but I just kept seeing him everywhere and he noticed me too.
    About two weeks go by, I'm just living my life, but also looking for a room because I was moving to a different city for my studies. so I get invited to this "hospiteer" evening and before I went there I had this feeling I was gonna see the mystery guy from the festival again. I get there and my eye I falls on one of the people living there and then I realised it was the mystery guy from the festival and the group of friends he was with also lived there. I got the room and later found out that even more of my roommates where there at the festival and that we even were at the same show only meters apart!
    So weird how all these random people came together in my life and even though I'm not living with them anymore a lot of them are still really good friends of mine

Funny how things have different meanings where you go.

      Vilte Vilte “By 2005 the term had become widespread in its use as to refer to a type of anti-social, uncultured youth, who wear much flashy jewellery, white trainers, baseball caps, and sham designer clothes” a person can do that if they own a billion pound business and if they can barely afford anything. And people only started thinking it was classist because they believed it to be a stereotypical lower class person, which is ironically actual classism.

No offence, but your accounts of both these stories and how you have romanticised them into a love story is worrying for your younger viewers, also you don’t seem to realise how dangerous the situation was with a stranger breaking into the tent. Surely with all the experiences you’ve had travelling you still can’t be so naive?
