speaking of subconscious I often miss if theirs a breakdown with the trap or if im shooting with slow shooters and cant establish good rhythm good shooting seems to be all in the mind
Have been watching your videos for the last 6months and shot gun shooting at pest birds over that time. Finally went to a club shoot and shot a 19/25 after some practice with other first timers. Thanks for the help I have signed up as a registered shooter :)
Are used to have a lot of misses with the hard rights on station 4 & 5. And then saw a video on TH-cam from a good shooter who recommended on station 5 that your hold point should be 3 feet to the right of the house and on station 4 the hold point be about 1 foot to the right of the house. And what a world of difference it made for me. If I have to go left… it’s easy for me. But wow what a difference the new hold points made for me. I now rarely miss hard rights. Thanks Roger…!

That is exactly what I told my wife and others who I have introduced to clay shooting. Personally I can nail 15-17 in row...then I lose my touch for 3-5 and get it back at the end.

If you have a shotkam and you can analyze every shot and how much lead at what difference. Then you can replay ad nauseum to get a mental picture of where target was and where muzzle was. It also helps other people who are starting out. I don't have time to spend thousands of hours at a range, but I have time to spend hours analysing my shots and why I missed. I am a co-founder and the director of communications of a pointing dog club in Québec, Canada (www.ccal.biz) and like I said you gave me confidence to improve my shooting skills and become a better shot, when we train members pointing dogs and how to encourage new mwmbers... but even if pointing dogs are a passion for me, I just became a member of the Montreal skeet club ( montrealskeetclub.com ) because of you and I thank you for it, I met some great people there and hope to create a new passion just before my retirement as a aircraft simulator inspector in a couple of years (www.cae.com). To finish, I would like to say that if you think for a minute that your videos are not useful, there are !!! Thanks again Roger & Be Well !!!
Hi Roger, love your vids but am just not getting it, followed all your tips and advice, gun set up and patterned as it should be, so I know the gun is shooting where I'm looking, so I'm looking and concentrating on the clay but missing more than I'm hitting, the question is should I be looking at the clay or looking at the point where the amount of lead is ie in front of the clay, Iam making a conscious effort not to aim or look at the barrels but is hard for me as i have shot air rifles for many years Thank you in advance and keep up with the brill videos
russell...ONLY look at the clay ... if you are looking at the point where you think the lead should be then the gun stops and you miss behind...just see it and shoot it...look only at the clay your brain will eventually work it out without you thinking about it...just see bird...shoot bird!!!!!

Pieter...buried amongst my videos somewhere i have posted a video...i think its titled "eezy peezy gun mount" ...I just practiced my gun mount in front of a mirror to make sure the gun always came up in line with my eye...ideally we should practice our gun mount 2 or 3 times a week if we want it to be consistent...and yes gun mount is extremely important...i believe that when i miss and I can't work out why then it's because my gun mount was different. I was given a good piece of advice a while back......"if your mount feels different... put the gun down and remount...if your happy to miss your target don't remount.

Philip ...i used to use 8's in the bottom barrel and 71/2 in the top barrel. Now i use 71/2 in both barrels at 1250 fps. Some brands of clays are harder to break so i believe 71/2 is the way to go.
Shooting is a mental game. For crossers I have been taught to intentionally miss in front and by miracle I started to dust them.
