  • Story behind my NIO ET7 Track Test Drive:
I was lucky enough to be invited to their NIO’s ET7 Track Test Drive on the last day of their Media Day Event.
I literally got the phone call 1 hour before the start from NIO asking if I would like give NIO ET7 a test drive around the track. I put everything aside and quickly drove to the test drive location which was on the other side of town.
It’s was an awesome experience the highlights was definitely the Dolby Atmos Audio System and how well the car handled out on the track.
The only downside was that I didn’t have any camera equipment with me nor a cameraman which I have previously organized for a upcoming NIO ET7 event which was canceled due to COVID.
Is it really better than BMW, Mercedes and Audi?
    Is it better than Tesla?
Thank @NIOGlobal for giving me the opportunity to test drive ET7 on the track at the media day event. $NIO #ET7

It would seem that, apart from Tesla, only China is producing capable EV’s that can scale to profitability.
Legacy auto will have extreme pain in the years ahead…

Have been considering buying this car instead of an Xpeng P7. But have been told contradictory things regarding the battery, I've been told if you take the battery as a service option that you will pay for that for as long as you own the car, but another person has told me that after five years the battery is yours and you no longer need to pay.
While the battery as a service is cheap, since I plan to use the car I buy for at least 10 years, it starts to add up. But if I buy the battery outright it would put this car out of my price range, and I believe it'd also mean I don't get free battery swaps on the rare occasions I went on long trips and that service became useful for me.

i dont think you will own the battery after 5 years otherwise you will end up paying less than buying the battery at the beginning. if you going to rent the battery the battery will take about 6-7 years to reach the break even point and thats without calculating inflation and interest earnings. so even if you use it for 10 years i think its still a good deal going with the BAAS. The only thing i can imagine is that it will be hard to resell your car since no-one wants to buy a cheaper secondhand car but still have to pay rent for the battery. In my opinion i will still go for the BAAS option for sure since the technology for batteries are still advancing so quickly and you will not miss out on the technological advancement by renting it since you can always upgrade to the new batteries.

@@Aaronchoi88 Yeah, I did the math a little while ago and it's six years to break even for the 75Kwph battery and 7 years for the 100Kwph battery.
My wife has said she prefers that we buy the battery. In fact if I've understood correctly, it's not really buying a single battery, it's rather paying a large upfront cost for access to the battery swap network, you can swap batteries up to six times a month without needing to pay anything. So essentially you avoid long term running costs, but it's quite expensive to pay all at once. Also means you never need to worry about degradation.
It raises a lot of questions though, for example if I got BaaS and years later I sell the car then the new open needs to either go to Nio and pay a large up front cost or sign a rental contract with them. Now I'm not sure if I "buy the battery" if I'm allowed to transfer that ownership contract. And can I just sell the car, keep my contract and buy a new Nio car, transferring that battery ownership contract to the new Nio car?
So many questions. Of course the contractual nature of the battery ownership is good for Nio, as they can continue making money on second hand cars by signing up second hand owners to new battery contracts.
It seems quite complex, but I'll hopefully be going into a Nio shop soon and I'll be asking them for clarification on this.

Incredible. Can't find an analogy to this shift since China can make the cheapest EVs to the most expensive, and Tesla having two Gigafactories in China. Legacy auto will survive but then they will be like what is Sony today, selling for higher prices for less product and innovation, poor value.
