Kudos to Trust TV for this this insightful series of interviews with elder statesmen. FEDECO under the renowned executive secretary Ahmadu Kurfi and Chief Michael Ani as chairman was well received by Nigerians who eagerly awaited a return to civilian rule after 13 years of military rule. The commission made the headlines and its chairman was even selected as Man of the Year by the New Nigerian in 1978(?). The elections it conducted were very transparent and money didn't play as much role in swaying voters as it does today. But FEDECO also had its difficult moments in the run up to the elections, the first of which was its banning of Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe (presidential candidate of the NPP) and Malam Aminu Kano (presidential candidate of the PRP) from contesting the 1979 presidential election for alleged tax evasion. This attracted a lot of public criticism. The two leaders were later cleared of the offence and allowed to contest in the election. The second difficult moment was its declaration of Shehu Shagari as winner of the 1979 presidential election on the basis of his obtaining the highest votes cast and of satisfying the condition of obtaining 25% of the votes cast in two thirds of the 19 states, the so-called 12 2/3. This generated a lot of controversy and was subject to litigation up to the supreme court. Alhaji Ahmadu Kurfi will be remembered for advocating in one of his books, a so-called "Fatima Formula" for deciding election outcomes.

May his soul rest in peace amin.
My Grandfather 🙏
My only problem with the programme is the anchor doesn't ask them their classmates or working colleagues at each stage of their lives!
