- Look who’s back behind the wheel! Nitro veteran Tommy Johnson Jr. spent time helping test Nunzio Valerie’s A/Fuel Funny Car.

This is awesome its about time. It will bring in new competitors for the TAFC class and spread some more NITRO into the beloved sportsman class! Anybody remember the CIFCA "California Injected Funny Car Association"? Blast from the past

good to see Johnson back in the saddle it is good to see a new A Fueler get tested it is good to have these cars back.

I remember A/FC's from years ago, we even had one or two here in Europe. Pleased to see them able to come back into top line sportsman racing. Also pleased that T.J. got the nod for driving this new project.

It's always been there in the rule book. Back in the 70's veney's vega was injected on nitro. Ran good also.
I have been wondering if this would happen! I hope this works out! Such an interesting combo!
I would like to see a/fuel funny cars & dragsters run at Sacramento raceway but i don't know if the old track can hold. it. I too am glad TJ is back. Just wish he could get a ride in. one of those 12,000 horsepower nitro breathing monsters. If not, then the a/ fuel car is just fine

I personally witnessed some test passes of an A-fuel Funny car at Buds Creak Md. many years ago, maybe '99 or 2000? Always wondered why no one ran one, didn't know they weren't legal...sooo, why was this team testing one? (By my bad memory it was the cow Funny car but maybe wrong there).
That was Scott Weis who ran an A/Fuel Funny Car in IHRA. He was so much quicker than the blown alcohol cars that IHRA and NHRA banned the combo until this year
@@fueldragster Yes it was! I remember now! (In fact I talked with them while I was there testing). I was testing my brand new Danny Lattimore built Stocker and they were there testing their A/Fuel funny car! That was around the Mark Thomas years of what IHRA used as pro Funny Car. Thomas was nearly unbeatable thru those years. Would have loved to see Weis allowed to run though.
Found out over the weekend, this project has been shelved due to a last minute NHRA rule change.
Ken Veney and others ran injected fuel funny cars back in the day.
Scott Weiss was the 1st guy to make a A/AF run with any success back in the 90's..He was running so good, IHRA & NHRA band his car.
Thank you when I heard TJ say “nobody’s done this yet” the first person I thought of was Scott Weiss!
Won't take long injected nitro will dominate like the injected does in dragster.. bout time
