OC. My mother who passed away last year at the age of 55 after a long battle with an autoimmune disease, was named after the triumph bonneville, her name was Bonnie. She was named that by her father, my grandfather, because of his love for bikes, and the bonneville t120r that he had at the time. I’ve recently just got my full motorcycle license, and I’m going to eventually own a T120, and every time I ride that bike, I’m going to feel a deep connection to my mum, who I miss so dearly. It’s funny how a machine can make you feel such emotion, after all, it’s only a machine? But to me, it’s a memory, it’s a tool to plunge me into deep thought about my mum and all of my memories of her. That’s why, for me, this is the greatest motorcycle ever built.
Gosh man. Im sorry for your loss but what a beautiful way to commemorate your mom. I can't imagine how much joy you are going to get out of a T120. Not only because its legit a great bike but all of the times your gunna get to reflect on while your riding it. That's going to be one hell of an experience man. Thank you for sharing that with us.
@@chaseontwowheels Thank you ❤️ she was a very special woman, like you said, it’s gonna be one hell of an experience when it happens. Love your content btw, top notch!
OC - I’ve ridden in the DGR 7 times for my dad who was beating prostate cancer…until he didn’t. We lost him 2 years ago. He didn’t love that I ride motorcycles, but that one day a year, he was a little more OK with it. I started participating when I had my 2015 air cooled Bonnie and then upgraded that in 2020 to the T120 Black. 4 years and 10,000 miles later, I still love it as much as the day I got it. In addition to everything you said about it, I love its flexibility and versatility. I’ve got some leather panniers and a flat seat which are great for commuting and oozing the DGR vibe, but I also have a King and Queen seat, 30l waterproof panniers and a top box for a total of 100l of storage for longer trips. I had a small cowel on the old Bonnie and found that it didn’t really help with air flow. If anything it just moved it from my chest to my neck. The T120 as is just allows clean air to flow around you and is much more comfortable at all but the highest speeds. Hard to find a better all around bike IMHO.
OC - I recently bought a 24 Bonnie T120 black, silver tank and a brown seat. I've put on about 1,500 miles on it and this dude nailed the description! I was incredibly surprised by the power, aesthetics and handling of this bike. If you haven't gone to a dealer to look at one, I urge you to check it out, the design is just striking. This is my 5th bike and I'm set for life with this pig.
I purchased a Triumph 1200 XE in 2020, loved it but ended up selling it since I wasn't using as I expected. This week I test rode the Speed Twin, Speedmaster and the T120. The T120 felt like I was coming home to a comfortable friend the moment I got on her. I loved it and felt better to me than any bike I had ever rode. I bought one the same day and look forward to many years of enjoyment. BTW - I am 64 years old and probably a pretty typical target demographic consumer of this bike. My persepctive.
I got a 2022 gold line version T120 with 3k miles and I love it. Torque is amazing off the line and rides great on interstates. Super fun in the hill country or mountain roads
I found it interesting that he said he really liked it, but he didn't know why. It's that X-factor that some European brands do really well. The T120 is the Jaguar XKE of motorcycles. It isn't the fastest or a ready made track weapon, but it has beauty, class, and it isn't terrible at anything. It makes you feel good driving and owning one.
i assume that the unexpected torque at 2.000-3.000 rev at the average speed, the deep sound, the smooth but powerfull handling and acceleration is the reason why the T120 give you that calm feeling like a slow heartbeat.
I bought my T120 brand new in 2017 and having been riding it for 7 years now. This is what I would call a perfect motorcycle! I have owned many different brands over the years and there is something very SPECIAL about this bike! I will never sell it…ever! Highly recommended
I own a 2017 T120 Black, and I've spent a fair amount of time thinking about why I love it as much as I do. Here are some of the words I've come up with to describe it: Elegant, solid, steady, smooth, and powerful. As Chase said - it does a bunch of things well. More to the point though, it's the number of things that it does well that make this bike way, way better than the sum of its parts. In the end, and this obviously just my opinion, riding the T120 is a bit of an addiction.
26:35 I have a T120 and i can confirm that doing any chain adjustments or maintenance sucks with the muffler placement. I replaced the mufflers with British Custom's slash cut tips solely for being able to maintain the chain easier (and they sounds great, too)
OC - No. 1 Retro/Modern Classic - hands down. When I saw this bike, I was - meh. After riding Hondas for decades, I was thinking Ducati, then a Rocket, then Tiger, then Scrambler, then Bobber - this is the best. Other than a Dakar, there is not much you cannot do on this bike. Plus, you can personalise it in so many ways. Trent & Nick in Roswell hooked me up with a demo on a Tiger and T120. The Tiger was really good, but the T120 was an absolute dream - I literally hugged it like a teddy bear afterwards and did not want to give it back. It is incredibly smooth, confident, and comfortable. It just exudes quality and craftsmanship. I will get one … soon. The first thing I might upgrade would be progressive springs … and then enjoy for a long while before I go crazy and turn it into a cafe racing monster.
I have a 2021 T120, looks just like the 1968 model I had in the 70s but more smooth and powerfull. I also have a 2023 Thruxton which is up a notch in power and handling, both are keepers. I love retro Triumphs. Great video, thanks
After over 7 years of production, these "new" Triumph parallel twins are still selling well. Prices have gone up a bit, just like everything else. My '22 Speed Twin was $12,800 with the optional Storm Grey paint.Did quite a few upgrades, and it'll pull hard from idle to 150mph. Got it down to just over 450lbs. after stripping every possible piece. Its one of them bikes nobody else wants to ride. The tourqe is exillerating!
OC I love Triumph's lineup, but I bought a '22 Z900rs. I will never get rid of that bike, and it is absolutely amazing. Has all the charm of a classic, but the handling and power of a modern sport bike.
OC, brother. Currently own a 2015 Speed Triple 1050. Had it flashed and it is a monster of a street fighter. Considering the 1200 RS version or the Speed Twin 1200 RS. Keep up the good work.
I really dug the t120 but fell in love with The Moto Guzzi v7 Stone Corsa. It is a bit more rough around the edges and that's what I wanted in a modern retro.
i own this bike for over the 2 years now and I'm closer now to 35k km. i highly recommend it for someone who prioritises and appreciates versatility, comfort and a torquey machine. i only wish it had higher ground clearance. but it's staying in my lineup forever, it's just too convenient too have one.
OC... I had a 2016 t120 I liked it but it sat too low so I kept my KLR. Problem with the KLR it has no power. So when a Scrambler 1200 came up I was able to sell both and get the scrambler. I like the ride height. I love being able to see over and around cars easier. The power in traffic is good. I'm able to do light offloading without bottoming out to go camping/hunting. Saves me some money on insurance so it was a win win.
@@sigberetta72 it was about the same but I'm not paying for insurance on 2 bikes. That's how it saved me a little. The klr was like 260 a year to I sure the t120 was 410 the scrambler is 405.
Installed a 3rd party headlamp cover on my SCL 500 that has a really cool look and a Honda designed side bag.. It now looks cool AF! for my 1st learning Bike.. I'm still debating what to get as a 2nd cruiser ride once is paid off..
I test rode everything under the sun before I bought my T120 in 2019. On paper, unimpressive. But that's why rides tell you what numbers don't. The fact that it's not squeezing every horsepower out of its 1200 cc motor means it's unstressed, with loads of torque down low. It's the perfect blend of refinement and character. Comfortable, solid, just right for cruising, but also able to pick up the pace in a way a 700+ lb. cruiser can't. And it makes a great noise. It's only shortcoming is, while it can put a smile on your face in the twisties, it just doesn't have the flickability, precision and responsiveness of a sporty naked like a Street Triple. But you wouldn't expect that. For a nice Sunday ride, there's nothing better.
OC. I daily a RE Classic 350 around the north Atlanta suburbs (your neck of the woods) but the t120 is at the top of my list for my next bike. Love the modern classics! Sounds like the t120 would be everything I could need or want.
No one knows “why” 🤔 That why I bought it, sold it, try different bike, sold, and bought it again 😄 Easy to ride, fun, awesome sound (V&H) must have, great looking, cheap usage, plenty accessories, for solo riders even good for loooong trips, with history behind. It’s totally all inclusive bike. Fact better for caffe riding then Alpine trips but you can do it both. One thing is missing - it’s not the Harley. Some can’t handle, others don’t care. Personally I love Triumphs bikes - owned four of them already and quality is top. Best regards from POLAND 🇵🇱
OC. Great video, thank you. Considering a change from a GS1250 to the T120, whilst I love the GS it is a big bulky beast I thought would be great for touring, however most of my riding is country lane trips to a café or pub with my friends. I do though that the T120 would also be good for touring with some soft luggage, great torque, eye catching retro cool!
Its crazy how we buy bikes thinking what we will use them for then once we get them we end up really finding out what we enjoy doing. The ever evolving process of motorcycling riding I guess.
Nice video, thx for that... I ve seen other test rides on Triumph s where they had the T100 and came out with the conclusion that it would be just right with respect to engine power, so I am wondering whether u have any experience in comparing these both motorcycles?
I have the speed twin 1200. A lot of people didnt really its fast until a take off the line and they try to catch me. At the next light they give the bike a dead stare and kinda wonder what kind of bike is it. I love how sleeper the line up is
OC. I watched this and your review of the Speed Twin. Is there a big difference in comfort between the 2? Would I be sacrificing a lot of comfort by going with a Speed Twin?
Now I'd love to see your first ride impressions on the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, similar to the Bonneville styling but its own little league of a motorcycle, especially for its price. Absolutely adore those classics, just beautiful bikes that turn heads.
So, what’s up with the howl from the rear wheel @70 mph? …and why doesn’t anyone mention this? I have a t120 black and it does the same thing. Is it the spokes on the rear or the hole in the hub? Not too big a deal so long that nothing’s wrong but i’ve never rode any moto that does this…. Thoughts?
I own a 23 Speed Twin 1200. The low end torque of those engines surprised me when I did the initial test drive. Plus they can tuned easily as they are Euro5 clogged up from the factory.
The euro 5 can be tuned? I have a 19 speed twin, decatted, and re-mapped it. Upgraded the front and rear suspension. Would love the newer usd forks but love mine now.
Can you actually see anything behind you in mirrors? I’m a wide load and always have trouble with that… last bike had to get CRG arrow bar end mirrors… not cheap, but work perfect!
Edit: OC… I own a ‘23 T120 Black. I’ve also had an RNineT and a R1200RT. The T120 strikes the perfect balance between analog and effortless, sublime riding. It’s my favorite of the 3 so far! Edit: As a police officer. Please don’t stack up behind me, unless you’d pass me at 11 or more over. If you’re going 5 over or something minor, just pass. 👍
i have a 2022 t120, super fun zippy bike. I may end up trading for something a little more comfortable for longer rides. I will definitely miss it whenever I do.
OC My favorite modern classic would be its own other brother the Bonneville Bobber same engine but slightly tune differently with a little more torque to it than the standard t120 IMO looks way cooler feels custom out of the factory very low center of gravity with a single floating looking seat, so no player 2. Only cons I see is you'll be scrapping a lot with the lower clear angle and the suspension need little more to it if plan on going ham on it like its track day but around town its amazing not a tour bike at all but around town its really nice lol but it breaks a lot of necks haha
OC. I was looking at the bonnevilles (t120 specifically), and the scrambler when purchasing my most recent bike. At the dealership the scrambler was a bit too tall for my liking, so I started sitting on the bonnevilles and ended up with the speed twin for the looks and 50lb less weight. I do regret getting the 900 over the 1200 but they were offering great deals on the 900s and budgets are a thing. I feel I may see a 1200 upgrade in my future(for better or worse) lol. I dig the modern retro look as well, and I’ve always liked riding something different than the other people out there, which is a little odd because I don’t like standing out lol🤷♂️.
I'd never considered a retro bike until I was given a Street Twin as a loan bike when my Street Triple RS was being serviced and fell in love with it. I ride my T120 more than my Street Triple now.
I think your video is very good and very informative however, I do think you missed a key point here. Your lack of confidence in leaning the bike into the corners is not because of the bike. It is because of your lack of experience on it. If you had some more time to ride it, you would see what I mean. This bike is very confidence inspiring in the corners I have found. I can lean it way over before I’m scraping pegs and even be pretty aggressive in the corners when I want to be. And with the stock suspension it’s perfectly capable. It really is an impressive piece of machinery!
Modern retro bikes? Why that's my category, I just love a naked bike with a round headlight, okay I am not a fan of the double rear suspensions but I love those bikes. By the way the 400cC younger brother of this bike has been out for about a year and I wonder when you are going to get your hands on one I would love to hear your opinion
OC. Hands downs the best modern retro has gotta be the Kawasaki Z900RS. Just look at pics side by side of the 1973-75 Z1-900 and the current Z900RS: the ancestral DNA is undeniable. I may be a little bit biased since my first motorcycle in college, that I bought used from a dealership in northern CA in 1982, was a 1975 Z1-900B. Too much motor and not enough of anything else for an 18 year old newbie, so I sold it less than a year later. Replaced it with a fully built '76 RD400.
I thought the Z900RS looked more retro in pictures than it does in real life, but that is somewhat true of the T120 as well. I don't consider the XSR900 to be much of a retro bike at all.
This is my beginner bike. I've had mine for 9 months now, and I think it's a great beginner bike. That being said, I will be looking to upgrade to something more sporty in the near future. One thing I DO NOT like about this bike is the very odd front tire size (100/90 18). It really limits the tire choices, and I am sincerely concerned that tire manufactures will stop making tires for this thing. Right now, there are only two quality choices, and a handful of off brand tires to choose from.
OC…Have the new xsr but is just lacking that character and I don’t really take advantage of the speed. Love retros also have the new RE Super Meteor 650 and the new Triumph 400x…the t120 is my dream bike

The t120 is cool but I liked the Speedtwin better. More sporty, thats why I own one.
Me too
I have a
t120 black and it does the same thing.
Is it the spokes on the rear or the hole
in the hub? Not too big a deal so long that nothing’s wrong but i’ve never rode any moto that does this…. Thoughts?
OC Love the look, glad to hear it's a good ride!
Great ride / video... perfect bike for the DGR!
@@sigberetta72 I put the crg lane splitter bar end mirrors on mine. The stock ones weren’t bad. I just like the lane splitter look better.
Awesome review big love from Australia 😊😊😊
Edit: OC… I own a ‘23 T120 Black. I’ve also had an RNineT and a R1200RT. The T120 strikes the perfect balance between analog and effortless, sublime riding. It’s my favorite of the 3 so far!
Edit: As a police officer. Please don’t stack up behind me, unless you’d pass me at 11 or more over. If you’re going 5 over or something minor, just pass. 👍
Chase needs to first ride a Ural Gear Up, rode one a few weeks ago and it was the most fun I’ve ever had on a “motorcycle”.
I want one but man they are expensive. love these classic/modern triumph
Really Considering getting a T120. This pretty much sealed my decision. I'm getting one. And this is coming from a Harley owner.
Honestly I could totally see a Harley owner making an easy transition to the T120. Not surprised at all honestly.
My recommendation to you is to keep both hands on the handlebars, bro.
Great job, OC 🤔🌞💞🙏🙌👊☮️
Thruxton RS is the best of the bunch, a little sportier stance, but amazing.
Where's the white front fender??
OC, why does that bike have a black front fender, all the DGR bikes came with a white fender up front!
Very very comfortable bike.
Is this as good as the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650?
i have a 2022 t120, super fun zippy bike. I may end up trading for something a little more comfortable for longer rides. I will definitely miss it whenever I do.
OC
My favorite modern classic would be its own other brother the Bonneville Bobber same engine but slightly tune differently with a little more torque to it than the standard t120 IMO looks way cooler feels custom out of the factory very low center of gravity with a single floating looking seat, so no player 2. Only cons I see is you'll be scrapping a lot with the lower clear angle and the suspension need little more to it if plan on going ham on it like its track day but around town its amazing not a tour bike at all but around town its really nice lol but it breaks a lot of necks haha
You got me thinking about this bike! I like retro, i like modern and I think i'll be more comfortable in an upright bike. OC
The 900 actually sounds better than the 1200 believe it or not. Do not regret your purchase. You have a great bike!
OC have you tried a Z900 RS SE ? That’s my fave modern retro bike.. I can see you owning one of these T120s 😅
OC: my personal favorite "modern classic" is the PAPIO SS followed closely by the Honda monkey. But then again I just ride minis
Nice commercial for the Atlanta, Ferrari and Maserati dealership! Let’s get a test ride on one of those new Ferraris!
amazing bike!
You've done a first ride on the Triumph Speed Twin. Would you take the T120 over the Speed Twin?
Its hard to say without riding them back to back but this has been my favorite of this style personally.
OC, Damn. Now I want one!
So…..would you buy this versus a new z900 Rs????
Talking about the ptwin. I would like to see your pov and review about the Bonneville bobber 😂
Kawasaki z900 retro is my fav
OC. Can you do your first ride review on continental GT 650. Love the first ride review.
Legit considering snagging the Elvis Bonnie. @chaseontwowheels you think one can Goon a Bonnie?
Modern retro bikes? Why that's my category, I just love a naked bike with a round headlight, okay I am not a fan of the double rear suspensions but I love those bikes. By the way the 400cC younger brother of this bike has been out for about a year and I wonder when you are going to get your hands on one I would love to hear your opinion
this bike is perfect
Oc rider! Excellent review and beautiful bike!
Beautiful bike - my next one for sure! oc
That was 4:83 seconds in RAIN MODE.
Try it in road mode, I get it would drop to less than 4:00
My paps got one of those. Arnt there only 250 in the world or som?
Yo Chase! Hope all is good! Of you had to choose for that one bike. T120 or the new xsr 900? Salute from Gothenburg 🫡
For where I am at right now with riding I'd go with the XSR 900 because I'm still a big fan of the sportier riding.
Well done. OC
My next bike. Once i sell my bike. OC
Name of the helmet?😊
none of the modes change the power, they all just change the throttle response, same on the speed twin 1200 too
Can you please do the Thruxton!
