Charles Theodore of Bavaria: Unwilling and Unwanted

  • When Bavaria’s ruling family died out in 1777, the country was inherited by the Elector Palatine, a member of the same dynasty, but from a different branch. In this way, the Palatinate and Bavaria were united under the same ruler for the first time in over 400 years - but there was a problem. The Elector Palatine, Charles Theodore, wasn’t interested in Bavaria, and would soon agree to give away nearly half the country to the neighbouring Habsburgs.

    The first man to fight the Illuminati, we should make a movie about him on the same tone of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

    Fun fact, the Mannheimer Schloss today hosts parts of the University of Mannheim including three branches of the University library, several lecture halls and classrooms, a bistro and many offices of university professors and the rectorat. During the spring and summertime during the lecture period every thursday there are parties thrown by different student associations in the castles small courtyard. Once a year the big courtyard along the entire building is opened for the opening party of the academic year. It's a really cool place to study and highly reputable for Business studies and Economics.

    I really love your videos. One thing: I find it a bit hard to understand where the borders are drawn on the map you are using. I can't really make out the cities, or what rivers these are. But otherwise your videos are great!

    Wait, what about the Bavarian annexation of the eastern part of the Palatinate during the 30 years war? How does it fit in the story?

    • @kingsandthings
      @kingsandthings  3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Oh, right, I should have included that in the map! From what I know it was part of the lands given to Rudolph's sons, and remained a part of the Electoral Palatinate until Maximilian I conquered them in the 1600s. It wasn't until 1777 that the entirety of the Electoral Palatinate was reunited with Bavaria, though.

    I am loving this series on Bavarian kings you are doing, I would be very interested to see a video on Louis Ferdinand Prince of Prussia. I think he is a very interested and neglected figure in Prussian history, he took after his uncle Fredrick the Great quite a bit but was taken too early after his death at Battle of Saalfeld.

    I recommend slowding down and trying to speak more clearly. I have to turn the volume up far too loud just to be able to understand what you are saying. You are speaking so fast, you are mumbling/slurring your words, which might be fine in some languages but not in english.
