  • asimplyfab.life - Replacing the sump gasket on your engine couldn't be easier and is certainly not as intimidating as you might think. Here is a step-by-step guide showing everything you need to be aware of. Land Rover guru, Rob Stewart, shows Victoria how to repair a leaking sump. An oily job ... #MuddysBootCamp

    Great little video and Rob is obviously a very knowledgeable and nice bloke. Really good to see an expert at work and casually explaining any parts and tips as he goes, Victoria makes a good apprentice too and the camera work was great, not shakey! Keep these videos coming please.

      +Tours and Tales.com Hi and yes, how about covering the steering box replacement, replacing hardy spicer joints on the prop shafts, replacing seals on the final drive housings where the prop shaft enters, replacing the clutch, changing various suspension bushes? Ive got more requests but maybe thats enough for the first weekend? 😀

      +Victoria Koning I agree, Rob is a very good teacher, could you add some information as you do the work such as what size the bolt/nuts are, torque settings etc, a bit like a video manual? That would be very helpful!

    I like the little Landrover anecdotes such as...from 1948 to 1982 the headlight were candles, then from 1982 to 1987 they went to carbide lamps, electricity was first used in 1997... That sort of thing!

    This video was REALLY HELPFUL for me doing the same task on a Landrover 101 Forward Control with a 200 TDI engine in it. I needed to check if there was a blockage in the gauze that covers the oil pick up pipe. Great idea using brake cleaner! Also the way you sealed up without a gasket. I did the job on the ground, but the 101 does have more space underneath to work.

      +John Nicholson Great stuff. Glad the video was helpful. The 101s are fab!

    I love to see the banter between you two. If either of you two, and your partners, get to Australia, you have a place to stay 300klms south of Sydney.

    Personally would remove the pickup pipe to check for crap behind that mesh screen.

    Hi guys, good videos but i have a question regarding the sealant used. can you give part number or details of the sealant as there are so many out there and not all suitable for the various tasks. It would be a big help!!
    keep up the good work.

      +Kev Dalby thanks for your lovely comments. I've asked the guru for the part number and will get back to you asap!

      Great stuff guys, many thanks. Do you think this would also be suitable for the rocker cover or should a normal gasket set be used there?? Any idea when more videos will be done and can we request items such as crankshaft seals? Is Rob back in the UK and can we "volunteer" our landys for the vids?

    • @markatkin8598
      @markatkin8598 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Do not put sealant on the rocker cover, it will leak, you can however put sealant on the half moon rubber seal that sits at the back of the head. Now as for "volunteer" vehicles, it's an interesting concept bearing in mind that we are an international conglomerate, Cornwall works for me and Nice works for Vic and Muddy. I do think Monaco at the end of May could be interesting ;)

    Just got my landy, and so amped to start working on it my own. just a question, did you pre-fill the filter before installing it. loving the descriptive videos so far.

    • @ASimplyFabLife
      @ASimplyFabLife  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nothing wrong with getting stuck in... eventually you figure everything out and put it back together. Landy's are probably as simple as it gets, luckily, and good fun to work on...

      Yes sir, well spotted - ‘duck egg blue’. Here’s more trivia, if you’re interested (engine explained at the end) th-cam.com/video/5MR21RL6I6U/w-d-xo.html

      @@ASimplyFabLife Very interesting. The 200TDi was not a standard engine for the MoD. They used the 2.5NA, then went straight to the 300TDi. That colour means it was officially reconditioned. Any idea which kind of vehicle it came from?

    • @ASimplyFabLife
      @ASimplyFabLife  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gavinbroad1743 yes, that is correct - tithonius to wolf, roughly speaking, if I am not mixing them up. According to Rob in the other 'trivia' video (near the end) he reckons the engine was from a 24v FFR with the bigger extra alternator bracket 🤔

    I realise this is an instructional video but you should also be demonstrating using the right safety equipment. I cant imagine how much brake cleaner you guys just breathed in.. I cant imagine you would have been very happy if it had got in your eyes as well..
