  • asimplyfab.life/ Rob Stewart (a.k.a. Land Rover guru) helps us identify a bad oil leak that's been plaguing Muddy Boots for a while. Find out how to troubleshoot (taste-test) oils to quickly identify where the leak is coming from. #MuddysBootCamp

If either of you two (Rob or MB) are ever in Wisconsin USA - Come on by and we'll have a tasting. My '97 NAS SW with it's V8 and ZF auto is a bit more tangy of a taste profile. Then I'll feed you cheese curds.
A short outage to install a new radiator and poly bushings in the Blue Beasty have her still OOC. Although she's almost there (for this volume).
BTW I prefer the flavor of NGLI2 bearing grease....but only new.
Also, did you say he tastes battery acid??
Good work. Wish I had a lift.

Tours and Tales.com You bet it's right up there with the trouser hanger that doubles up as a door latch and the parking brake that let's the vehicle roll when you jack the wheel off the ground.

+Richard Shields You mean the door latch that has started a new fashion trend with all our shirts? Talking point of note for the uninitiated... What about double-slamming the door to get it closed properly and dashboard lights with a mind of their own...

You obviously have the in dash colour puzzle fitted to your model too. I thought that was to keep us amused on the long 55mph journeys.

+Richard Shields We have the optional extra fitted: turn left and the oil light comes on, turn right and it goes off... Put on the headlights and the mist lamp lights up...

Hi Rob, Can you please run a video on how to remove the winch on a Land Rover Defender, Ex-Australian Army, 110? what I did wrong was in trying to remove the Rivets left behind from the previous Army number plate, when it got to the end of the rivet, the drilled went in past the bumper bar thickness and must have touched something and sprung a leak. I tried to remove the section of the bumper bar in front of the winch, but I am unable to get a spanner behind it to hold the nuts.
Surely, there must be an easy way to remove it. Furthermore, can you tell me why did it spring a leak? The leaking started easily, like butter, the drill went straight in, and I am unable to see what it is that I struck,, a hose, or a plug. Please help me.

You don't have to taste them.... the oils smells different depending if it is a Dexron or a DOT 4 or engine oil or SAE 90 or...!!!

Im starting to doubt if its possible to have a defender with no leaks. I know people joke about it, but I was under the impression normal maintenance and care would avoid this. No?

It IS possible. Newer Puma's are pretty good (if you have the budget these days). We did find a 300 Tdi that was haevily modified for 4x4 trialling and bone dry! As I always say - sadly, it is luck of the draw...

Can't believe your teaching novices to taste Engine oil, Gear oil, Brake fluid and possibly following your bad example Glycol? You are dangerous I wouldn't employ you. Then again you wouldn't want to work for me as I work differently to you. Please stay safe.
