Look, I'm a huge Marcel fan and follow all the other big bluegrass TH-camrs, but this dude right here is the only one pushing the envelope with licks that are truly unique. It's hard to come up with 'new' kinds of bluegrass stuff because it's such a structured genre and there are lots of players that will turn their nose up if you aren't recycling G runs all day and wearing a bolo tie. Alex is trying to break out of the status quo, and I'm ALL here for it.
I second matt on this! I got yelled at by a bunch of old timers for praticing the minor pentatonic scale, saying that "i was trying to throw everyone off" by doing so... Which means I'm desperately seeking out some vocabulary that pushes the limits a bit, since I won't be getting it from the old guard down here!
How about any videos on practicing right hand technique? That would be a great video that would help a lot of people. Some advice on how to practice the right hand or hand if you happen to be a left-handed. Great videos. I love all of them.
Man thank you for sharing these, I’m new to playing bluegrass, and trying to take breaks during jams is killing me, I feel like once I’m in the pocket it isn’t so bad, but getting to that point is so tough for me. Playing guitar since I was 13 but bluegrass makes me look as if I’ve only played for 13 months.
I feel a little more freed up with the closed fist. Had a tendency to get super tense with the bracing. Both can be good techniques, at the end of the day it was just personal preference.

I agree
Agreed. Alex pushes the envelope while still keeping a traditional foundation. In some ways it reminds me of Richard Bennet
If bluegrass is a language, I am Helen Keller

Great lesson. Can you do a demo on using these in a specific song. Thank you. I subscribed.
First lick reminds me so much of nutshell reversed and with a few deviation. I would love to take a course with you alex.

Alex, very beneficial lesson. Curious to know what pick and what mm do you use?
I was wondering how these sound on electric ?
Glad to see Trevor Moore is alive and well shredding some flat picking licks
RIP man. Legendary.
Hey man, noticed you changed your picking from anchoring pinky to this. Any reason?

@@alexgraf8417 thanks man, I’m in the process of changing to that too. Do you feel more accurate ?
