Hollywood can't come up with a script to save there lives. Everything is a Sequel, or prequel. Or a remake of something that's been done ten times over. But dust has some great writers and great stories that unfortunately will never be seen but by a few.
I've watched this many times. There is so much to it that it takes multiple viewings to get it all. For example, I just realized the source of two lines. The first, at 3:54,Oono asks Daisy, "Would you like to play a game?" This comes straight from the film WarGames (1983). The second comes a few seconds later. At (3:57), Oono offers Daisy some refreshment, including Ovaltine or "some warm milk, perhaps?" This is straight out of Young Frankenstein (1974). Brilliant!!
My take on this, is that the focus was never Daisy. They are on another planet of sorts, and the tall beings look after Oono to make sure he is happy and fulfilled. He has a purpose. He is their purpose, so each time they take human form and live out a life as Oon's Daisy. It becomes timeless because we're left to wonder just how long they have been doing this.
The memorabilia are all ours. This is the post-apocalyptic Elon-Earth where Optimi have created a hellscape, but the last human - Daisy - was a holdout while she lived. She had Oona, a companion bot probably from Walmart. An important point left unsaid - when we build a THINKING machine, be sure to consider the PROPER way to shut it down, how to allow it to shut itself off without fear. To not do this is cruel, so that IS what we'll do.
@@thesoundsmith Her possessions, habits, music and attire were from too early a time to be post apocalyptic. This film is open to interpretation based upon the variables but there is nothing to suggest a post apocalyptic earth. She could have been taken from Earth and given Oona. @@thesoundsmith I saw it more of a postmodern apocalyptic Zuckerberg-Meta hellscape, Daisy died in and out of Meta and her Walmart bodily function/hygiene robot just kept giving her sponge baths.
@@gladitsnotme- Taking it another step. It could be that the cyborg are there to serve Oono. They march around in a line waiting for the whole scenario to play out over and over again. So when the cyborg sees Oono and Daisy's skeleton sitting out watching the sunset, it knows Oono is about to turn himself off and it's time for another cyborg to become Daisy so Oono can fulfill his purpose.
I thought because of the way the camera turned to show the robots perspective, "oh, they perceive themselves as humanoids shrouded in black mist..." my take is they have been marching around patiently waiting to collect daisy but oono had been preventing that either because they respected his wishes or he controlled some kind of defensive matrix on the house. Perhaps now that he is off line she will finally get uploaded to some kind of android human.
As an 81-year old man I find this very powerful. Nietzsche's version of _Up._ Graphics-wise, it seems a bit retro, especially the texturing. The detail on objects was good, the background felt like the '80s.All in all, well done. Good job, folks.
@cezearr34No. Is the simple answer. But you notice it less, and it bothers you less, as time rolls by. And then, as you reach an age you realise you have a slight fear of the eternal unknown. But eventually all the aches and pain, and ever increasing frailness and papery weak skin, leaves one welcoming the sweet embrace of eternal, restful sleep.....
@cezearr34 Depends on your definition of life. There is something different between when you are alive and dead. There has to be. Where does that "energy" go when we die? IMO we become part of everything. But meh, what do I know.
Love all the insight here towards this fantastic short. My take away was regardless of what humans are in the end we are just dust and the only things we are remembered by are what we leave behind - in this case the faithful Oono.
A haunting tale. The power of nostalgia and the deep feelings it evokes is beautifully and powerfully communicated through the achingly poingent visual of the crooked house with the robot who was obviously a much loved mech companion lovingly caring for his deceased companion. Juxtaposed with the hard cold stone megaliths and robotic entities marching through, what looks like, a catastrophic landscape is chilling. The end, what a jolt. The robot type hand dissolves in smoke to reveal a human hand on the door knob to the crooked house withe the switched off robot and his skelital companion. Wish I had a clue as to what it was all about. Loved it all the same & thanks.

Oono does not understand/know that Daisy Bell is dead but continues to carry out its daily tasks. Oono switching itself off with its message it will be waiting there for her is Oono waiting for daisy Bell to switch it back on. It was one of those short films that are very interesting but not understandable at all. We see Daisy Bell's skeleton being cared for by a robot in an old house that sits on an obscure structure in the clouds. Why ? What's the point of this ? There may be too many unobvious options here. Personally, it seems to me that one day at some point people will outgrow themselves as a biological species, becoming something more ... settling in heavenly cities. But before that, they built simpler robots that were designed to entertain and help people. And now, after people managed to become different, those robots began to yearn, and in this case, Daisy, being in a different form, decided to help her old friend, being already something inhuman. What conclusion can be drawn from this? In pursuit of progress, people should not forget about humanity, for example, helping old friends who were once very dear to us? Who knows, but nevertheless this work is good at least visually.😏
oh to gunpowder & sky and the makers, this is truly great artistry. Knowing some of the folks who worked on it, I enjoyed it before when it first came out, and was nice to see again.
It looked like they were trying to give the robot purpose by taking on the role of the human until they died, the robot shut itself off, then the cycle would repeat.

So good!
oh to gunpowder & sky and the makers, this is truly great artistry. Knowing some of the folks who worked on it, I enjoyed it before when it first came out, and was nice to see again.
That song "Daisy", is that a tribute to Hal9000?
This reminds of Red Dwarf when they meet Kryton for the first time!
Loved it
2:30 is amazing. Possibly the best CGI I've seen. Or is it real?
Everything inside the house is real
Live this video!
I don't quite get it?
It looked like they were trying to give the robot purpose by taking on the role of the human until they died, the robot shut itself off, then the cycle would repeat.
We need another part i wanna see what happens with the house and the bot and daisy
A minute and 15 seconds of credits for a ten minute film?
