    Hello everyone, Jamie here (writer/director of Fearfully Made) very happy to answer any questions you may have about the film!

      Are you aware that's a quote from Psalm 139, Jamie? I just wondered how you came to choose it.

    • @Jamie_Foreman
      @Jamie_Foreman ปีที่แล้ว +20

      @@benkennington8941 I am indeed, it came out of my thinking about the way we like to concieve of current 'AI' as opposed to what it actually (to me at least) appears to be. We like to imagine we are in the God position of creating beings, to imagine we're living in Bladerunner when actually our 'AI' is not a fearful and wonderful, separate creation with all the potential for hurt and love before it. I think it's been picked up on in some of the comments but Aria, as an AI, is an indescriminate mirror of behaviour and I think the mixture of such a machine, like an algorithm with a face, and a flawed free-will human is a terrifying prospect.
      Also I was about to become a father at the time and that quote really chimed in with my worries about having a new human in my care!

    One of the best short sci fi films I have seen in a long time. This film mildly subverts our expectations, but by doing so they kept the story real. And it is a story/message that needs to be said, often and clearly and compellingly. Thanks!
    It really appeared to me that the antagonist/"villain" actually was trying to do the right thing. But they were so short sighted that they couldn't see that what their actions caused more harm to our protagonist than any fall onto a stony pavement could ever do. The indignity of removing our power to choose inflicts a wound that runs deeper than any set of gardening sheers could ever cause. When his daughter finally.... well, I'll just say, Great ending!

    • @Jamie_Foreman
      @Jamie_Foreman ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Thanks, I think those who are trying to do the right thing make the most compelling antagonists 🙂

    I just can’t say enough about the talent and creativity of everyone who creates these stories, their actors and crew that make these possible. Every story, EVERY story has been multitudes better and superior to the crap nowadays. I haven’t went to a theater or paid to watch a movie in a couple of decades because of the quality or lack there of.
    Based on the years of experience with the quality of Dusts shorts, I would definitely pay a subscription fee for this channel. I would happily go to a theater and watch a two hour movie of Dust shorts. They could have three or four shorts per show. I hope that the creators, crew and actors get paid well. If they do, it is definitely not enough!
    Thank you, the creators of this Dust channel for sharing these amazingly talented and creative peoples work with us! Much love and admiration!

    I liked your blend of futuristic holograms and life-like robotics, combined with the 2000s looking TTfone technology with extra large, easy to read number pads- especially when it was the robot using the old tech phone.
    Jessica Blake did an outstanding job as Aria. I enjoyed the performances of the other actors as well, but it's kind of funny to me that sometimes it takes more acting skills to act emotionless than to act out emotions. Probably because displaying emotions is something we all do and are familiar with, but being emotionless in situations that would normally evoke emotions is something that is unusual for us. I think portraying a convincing robot would actually be more of a challenge, and Jessica nailed it.

    It's mildly amusing and immensely frustrating that Hollywood has abandoned making really good, engaging and immersive dramatic movies in favor of the same old fast-n-furious ridiculousness or superhero centric, waste of money, action movie junk. We have here in DUST great examples of how movies used to be and should be. I do not think I've seen one yet that didn't have charm and merit. Great collection. DUST is doing something very right.

    There is amazing talent and creativity on Dust (to quote comcastjohn, below). BUT... Why is there such a predominance of depressive content? Almost every film leaves me sad, hopeless and full of dread for mankind's future. Surely there is an optimistic version of the future that someone can share? Where is the uplifting content that got me into SciFi in the first place?

    While it is always amusing to worry about Frankenstein's monster, the reality of actual care homes is horrific - low paid staff who too often take out their frustrations on helpless patients. As is always the case, we don't need to worry about hypothetical monsters under the bed, because it is we ourselves who are our greatest enemy.

    Jfc, how do you guys keep doing this? I don't know how many DUST shorts I've watched at this point, and with every single one you hit it out of the park. Some are just a wild ride, you have no idea what's coming, and you walk away just going "Wow!". Others are easy to see what is going to happen, or it's a very classic story, but they're always well made and enjoyable. Some are hilarious, some are thought-provoking, some are cool and exciting. And then there are the ones like these, that tug at your heart-strings in a way that feels genuine and makes you think.
    Basically, what I'm saying is, I hope everyone who works with DUST just feel the pride in what you're giving us with these wonderful stories! Oh, and heading over to your website to pick up some stuff from your store, happy to send some money your way :)

    Good film. Enjoyed it. Sets the mind thinking about where we're going with AI and machines we make to help us. Will the machines learn the differences between the people they were made to help and actually help, or perhaps imprison us for our safety? I wonder though, is what we have now that's supposed to help us actually helps? Seems there's a pill for every illness. The doctor prescribes a pill but seldom tells you of all if any side effects that might come with it. At some point you may need a pill for some side effect which comes with that pill, and so on. People normally live longer now with the help of modern medicine. Does that mean we are customers longer? More money for the health care system? Would that be the way machines would "help" us? For our "safety"? Aside from my over thinking, excellent work on this film. Well written and acted. Accompanying music was fitting for the story.

    Amazingly well done for a student film. The one aspect that might be of interest, though, it just seemed too predictable, like I already knew what the next lines, the next scene was going to be before they happened. Yes, the aim was to develop very strong emotional engagement with the characters and all that, technically the acting and photography was absolutely first rate, but it could have been shortened a bit, or some sort of unexpected surprise element could have propelled this production into a entirely new story concept, but no worries . . . as said earlier, very well done production.

    The robot mishandled things, but if you've ever participated in elderly care, you might have a more forgiving view of things. This is not to say that the arrangement was in any way sensible, but then, you need to have things go off the rails for a story to take place.
