This doesn't mean they didn't have other hits or weren't great bands. This only means that if you go up to 50 random people, most of them will only know one song from these bands.
There's also the fact that when people think about one-hit wonders they think of the impact in one country only. For instance, A-ha only had a couple big hits in the United States, but had continued success in many other countries.

Apparently the definition of “One Hit Wonder” is changing. Most of these were songs that never made “Hit” status.......but they did make the American Pie Soundtrack 😂
Kix is actually a really great band. They only had one "hit" in Don't Close Your Eyes but they have like 10 songs I can think of right off hand that are really good.
Kix definitely weren't One Hit Wonders. Sure "Don't Close Your Eyes" was there most successful song but they had a lot of other hits and had tons of videos on MTV. They even had "Cold Chills" on the soundtrack to a popular movie, Wayne's World.
Like, I'm On My Fifth Elbow, Trapt has had more than just "Headstrong". Let's not forget about "Echo", and, as Paul Carson mentioned, they've also had the song "Still Frame" that were also big hits
It's fucking stupid to call them one hit wonders, too. Like Jesus, Shannon's discography is so huge and new songs surface all the time. No Rain wasn't the only one they had commercial success with, either. I've yet to find a bad one.
Wait. What? Drowning Pool a One Hit Wonder??? With Sinner, Bodies, Tear away, Step up and Killin´ me I count at least 5 Hits. Sorry Guys but you are wrong. Btw : Alien Ant farm is totally underrated.
Also, Lit wasn't a one-hit wonder. They had 3 hits (My Own Worst Enemy, Zip-Lock and Miserable). And Miserable was actually the most popular of the three songs. It had the video with Pamela Anderson and was one of the top-10 most played songs of the year 2000. And the album went platinum. Annnnnnd Alien Ant Farm's biggest hit was "Movies." Not Smooth Criminal. And again, not a one-hit wonder if they had two hits.
actually, as played as it was, in terms of the hot 100, miserable went to the 'bubbling under' portion of the charts, #117. zip-lock failed to chart, my own worst enemy went to #51, so there is some legitimacy to that one. alien ant farm only made the hot 100/top 40 once in the mainstream, which is where this list is going, only making the hot 100 once or top 40 pop charts once. movies, albeit a played song on mainstream and modern rock charts and stations everywhere, didn't even cross over to the pop charts, hence why smooth criminal is on there.
Hum, along with Local H (I was waiting to see Bound For The Floor pop up at any point on the list) are the most CRIMINALLY underrated bands to come out the 90s alt wave.

I found the Blind Melon album at Goodwill like 2 years ago, thinking, "I remember that song and I loved it." Then, to my surprise the whole album is amazing and was the only CD in my car for quite a while. Great road trip album. RIP Shannon Hoon
I think we're all forgetting the greatest of one-hit wonders, "Fire" by The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown. That song nearly beat "Hey Jude" to #1, but you don't hear anything else from Brown or his band.
to be fair, the 90's were really the end of the non-manufactured era. now hits are all computer assisted and pressed through a formula to ensure a hook that will catch on to the masses.
@Agent J Really? The 90s were the decade where talent was everything. Notice how bands from the 90s focused more on music rather than their outfits and dance moves. The music was the #1 priority for most bands. Stage performance was secondary.
True. I got that particular album (blow my fuse) because I found them on google suggestions for probably AC/DC or something. I read a couple words on them and thought yeah sounds like your kinda music but didn’t expect much cuz I hadn’t really heard about them at the time. In all honesty that album is now one of my favorite albums, at least of 80s hard rock / heavy metal / glam metal type music. Don’t consider them a 1 hit wonder either to be honest. I don’t think Don‘t close your eyes is a huge deal and then again other songs like Blow my Fuse and Cold blood (which is one of my absolute favorite songs) aren’t too far behind in my opinion. I would totally agree with you, they’re really underrated.
Toadies are EXTREMELY underrated ESPECIALLY rubberneck that album is amazing, and there follow up album Heaven Above Stars Below was even better in my Opinion!!!
One could argue Fountains of Wayne had it's first hit in 1997 with "Sink to the Bottom" that hit #7 in Norway Lit had "Miserable" chart at #3 and "Lipstick and Bruises" at #10 Crash Test Dummies first charted at #4 in Canada back in 1991 with "Superman's Song", following the release of "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm", they hit #6, 7, 4, 2, and 5 with "Swimming in Your Ocean", "Afternoons & Coffeespoons", "The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead", "He Liked to Feel It", and "Keep a Lid on Things" respectively. But again only in Canada Marcy Playground also hit #8 with their previous single "Saint Joe on the School Bus" Drowning Pool charted several times after Bodies, hitting #7, 5, 4, and 8 with "Step Up", "37 Stitches", "Feel Like I Do", and "Turn So Cold" respectively. Alien Ant Farm hit #5 with "Movies" in the UK and "Glow" in New Zealand following their success with "Smooth Criminal". Blind Melon reached #8 with "Galaxies" the lead single from their second album "Soup". Unfortunately, vocalist Shannon Hoon died 5 month later from a drug overdoes following a disappointing performance in Houston, halting the tour and causing the band to break up until their reformation in 2006. They are currently recording their 4th full-length album with an expected 2020 release. It's debatable if Iron Butterfly even qualifies for being a one hit wonder as they didn't even break into the top 20 on the charts but the song "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" has been used so much in media to represent the 60s/70s I can see why it's on the list.
Sadly this Loudwire list has "one hit wonder" as American Release, or "that song they are famous for", ignoring bands that have hit #1 in multiple countries with an actual one-hit wonder, but never charted in America.
I actually feel kind of bad for Blind Melon. Someone made me sit down and listen to their album back in the day and I realized that the song they're famous for is probably their worst one.
I'm realizing now I've heard these songs, never knew what any of them looked like. Also cool that you showed the live versions, they all are amazing live too!
The Salty Seaman quite right! Afternoons and coffee spoons..... mmmm mmmm mmmm mmmm....... ballad of peter pumpkin head...... all brilliant songs (and hits - at least in the uk!)
If it was it didn’t break outside of Britain, one hit wonder doesn’t always refer to chart success just a band known in the popular consciousness for just one song.
I have heard of all but one song. I am still a big one hit wonder fan (even though some of these bands had more than one hit). These songs bring be back to my youth. R.I.P. Dave Williams ( Drowning Pool) and Shannon Hoon ( Blind Melon).
Then why can nobody name more than one song from any of them? Sure, they all had fans that can name a bunch of songs. But that isn't the same as a hit.

"Closing Time" has a special meaning to me. In 1998, our short-lived theater group, the Maple Shade (NJ) Players performed Shakespear's "Much Ado About Nothing", in which the stage was a bar-restaurant setting, with bits of pop songs playing between scenes while the props were being moved. "Closing Time" was played while we took our bows to the audience. Good times, good memories. 🎭😎

And Miserable was actually the most popular of the three songs. It had the video with Pamela Anderson and was one of the top-10 most played songs of the year 2000. And the album went platinum.

actually, as played as it was, in terms of the hot 100, miserable went to the 'bubbling under' portion of the charts, #117. zip-lock failed to chart, my own worst enemy went to #51, so there is some legitimacy to that one.
alien ant farm only made the hot 100/top 40 once in the mainstream, which is where this list is going, only making the hot 100 once or top 40 pop charts once. movies, albeit a played song on mainstream and modern rock charts and stations everywhere, didn't even cross over to the pop charts, hence why smooth criminal is on there.

@Agent J Really? The 90s were the decade where talent was everything. Notice how bands from the 90s focused more on music rather than their outfits and dance moves. The music was the #1 priority for most bands. Stage performance was secondary.

One could argue Fountains of Wayne had it's first hit in 1997 with "Sink to the Bottom" that hit #7 in Norway
Lit had "Miserable" chart at #3 and "Lipstick and Bruises" at #10
Crash Test Dummies first charted at #4 in Canada back in 1991 with "Superman's Song", following the release of "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm", they hit #6, 7, 4, 2, and 5 with "Swimming in Your Ocean", "Afternoons & Coffeespoons", "The Ballad of Peter Pumpkinhead", "He Liked to Feel It", and "Keep a Lid on Things" respectively. But again only in Canada
Marcy Playground also hit #8 with their previous single "Saint Joe on the School Bus"
Drowning Pool charted several times after Bodies, hitting #7, 5, 4, and 8 with "Step Up", "37 Stitches", "Feel Like I Do", and "Turn So Cold" respectively.
