I had 12 days in Japan and the only thing booked was a flight home. Join me as i make my way around Japan, trying to explore as much of the country as possible, taking each day as it comes. The first day i was trying to get to an abandoned island when i got taken to a millionaire's home.

Dan, I really like your videos. You remind me of another English guy named Bald & Bankrupt. I stumbled upon him at the beginning when he had only 30,000 subscribers. I knew his channel would take off and it did, and he has over 3 million today after only about 3 years. I like your attitude that working a 9-5 boring job is a road to nowhere in life. Life is short so why not use your little time on this planet to live your best life by visiting different parts of the world and meeting new people. You and Bald both are very easygoing people who can get along with anybody. You both realize that it's better to go where the tourists don't to get a feel for the country. I have the same mindset as you that the best times are always the unexpected ones. It's good to just go with the flow when visiting different countries and let things evolve at their own pace. I went on my very first solo travel past october to Japan and it really really inspired me to go for my dream to see the world,as of im speaking right now,i have had a call just a minute ago that made it 100% sure that ill be going to SK and japan for a year,to study and explore and live the life we all deserve to have. After rain comes sunshine and u gotta work for something u want,u dream of,how far it may seem,u will get there with determination and u Dan,really deserve everything youre doing right now. In the summer of 2015 I was hitchhiking from Yawatahama to Matsuyama on Japans smallest main island Shikoku. A kind, soft spoken man heading to Matsuyama picked me up. He spoke only a little english and I only spoke the most basic japanese. Along the drive I learned his wife had cancer and was staying at the hospital in Matsuyama. The views driving along the coast toward the city were outstanding. We stopped at a service station to refuel and got some food. He insisted on buying me his favourite ice cream, and afterwards we sat on a park bench on this hill overlooking the city, just eating our ice cream together.
Great video Dan, your travels make me reminisce of my own, and inspire me to get back out there again soon.

Japanese people are some of the best countrywise to meet. They have a lot of world travelers that share similar feelings when your out and about. I had the please of knowing a guy who biked across america with basically nothing and he had all sorts of crazy stories over the 7 years I was there.
Love the content, keep it up! Your words about 'why work a 9-5' are haunting ngl, curious as to what you do to finance travelling as I am dreaming about a career break.
If you want a break you'll find a way. Took me many years of messing around until i found a gem!

Whats funny Dan is that LAWSON is actually a convenience store from Ohio USA and was bought by the Japanese, I think the last Lawson in Ohio closed in the early 80s. Fun fact.

@@whereisdan If you ever get to Hawaii (Honolulu/Waikiki) its a total mind-FFFCK because its got so much Japanese shopping (2 Don Quixotes, 2 Daiso japanese dollar stores, japanese grocery stores). The Wallmart is bilingual signage. In the hotels its all bilingual japanese signage. Its got a full copy of a japanese temple (ByodoIn temple in hawaii). There's a christian japanese church built like an Edo Castle. There's 2 japanese temples downtown Honolulu. You can get tons of Japanese food and Coco Ichiban curry chain is there. Its like Japan-Lite. The 7-11 Hawaii has bento cheap $5 egg/rice/sausage breakfast plus imported stuff snacks from Japan. When I visited the battleship in Pearl Harbor 2 Japanese ladies (workers as guides) were near the entrance of the sidewalk to the ship so I spoke with them in Japanese. (the ship where Japan surrendered). Before covid, half the conversations on the street in Waikiki were Japanese. tons of restaurants. its crazy. Waikiki has 2 Lawsons, one is a tiny tiny shop - nothing like in Japan, and then theres a more glam Lawson with nice souvenirs etc and food in the Sheraton (i think thats the one). No FamilyMart though. And on every corner (the hotel i stay has 3 of them) is an ABC store which is an upscale Konbini store with souvenirs and clothing, really nice. They carry imported Japan drinks and some carry my favorite UCC matcha latte. There are 20 or more ABC stores (upscale hawaii konbini) just in Wakiki alone. All the hotels will provide a japanese breakfast (miso soup, rice, etc) and every toilet in the major hotels are the japanese toilets that wash your bum with a bidet.

I'm curious of the differences between Japan and South-Korea, are people going to Korea because its an easier and cheaper alternative to Japan?
South Korea is less known, it's kind of overshadowed by Japan.
As far as moving abroad and living as an expat ~ A decade ago I had a dream of teaching in Japan but ultimately settled on South Korea. They offer free housing, better monthly salary, and cost of living is generally cheaper compared to teaching in Japan. As for tourism ~ Japan's got Korea beat by a landslide.

You are in Nagasaki so I want to recommend you to go to Hashima Island in which 122 Koreans were taken to the mine and forced into labor, and they were not even paid their wages properly.

9 to 5 is only office jobs and most of them are fake jobs to occupy people, majority of people in the world work a lot more without counting hours
