OOOOH! Alistair Simms grand grand magnificent actor.....I just can get enough of his facial expressions!!!! absolutely fabulous actor.....Thanks for giving us these great films.
Thanks for another classic upload. Got so many of yours on my 'to watch' list. Time was when we could watch these on TV, now am grateful that people like yourself keep these old movies alive. 😊
The Brits did more with less than Hollywood ever could. British film had no money and no special effects, they had to use dialogue driven, character driven plots to move things along.
Straight and simple. The fast delivery of the dialogues another plus point and the tactics in deducing the culprits typical British till end. Treat to watch.
I'm taking a short pause to say thank you Timeless Classic Movies I could always depend on you knowing you have the perfect volume in all your movies you share 👍🏼 97% of other movie don't offer me this brilliant sound and I just love these black-and-white movies you upload for us thank you thank you🙋🏼🙂👍🏼👍🏼🇨🇦🍻
That was brilliant 👏. Didn't know what to make of it for a while but it was very funny and enjoyable. The bit about impersonating the professor was superb. Unusual to see Alastair Sim not occupying the lead role. 10/10.
When I was a little kid a lot of the actors had British accents. As a I got older the gangster an cowboy movies with english american accents. I have to say, I think I prefer british movies.
Ty for this one! What a hoot! Usually watch the serious old British mysteries, like Sherlock. Glad I made the exception for this was quite entertaining. Always like to see an old steamer rolling down the track.
This was the third and last Inspector Hornleigh movie, the others being made in 1938 and 1939 and, by this time, World War 11 was underway. All three were hugely popular - this one was released in the USA with the title Mail Train and there had been an equally popular BBC Inspector Hornleigh radio series from 1937 to 1940. The star, Gordon Harker (1885 - 1967) was a very popular actor and appeared in 68 films over his life including three silent movies directed by Alfred Hitchcock. His co-star, Alastair Sim (1900 - 1976) called a halt to any further movies in this series because he feared being typecast.
Being typecast as a sweet, bumbling oaf may have served Sim well in "Cottage to Let", which was released in the same year. It's exactly how he appears in that film at first...
I just found one scrolling down the side here.. Looks like Loretta Young in the picture. 1939 No it isn't. Her name is not on the credits. Love Alastair Sim in a Christmas Carol. The remakes can never touch they way he acted in that movie.
☑☑☑☑☑☑☑☑☑✔ This is the third or fourth time I've watched this movie and I still love it. Very funny and very cleverly written. Gordon Harker and Alastair Sim work so well together. It gets a very firm rating of 9/10 from me. 29 Apr 2024
my 3rd time. decent movie with the b-actors of the day. Aliistar simms is a stand out. HE fancies himself a ladies man with the local barmaid in several scenes.
I've never had any problem understanding British English; when I would go to the US though - small town english are all slurrs and I had no idea what they said.
You do realize that the ads are not part of the movie nor are they part of this channel. They are inserted by TH-cam as you watch the movie. Watch the movie again and you will get different ads, and possibly fewer. You can also get rid of them by paying YT a small fee to become a premium member. In any event, don't blame this channel; blame YT, but remember they have to make money somewhere.
Like the other two in this series, I enjoyed this quite a bit-- maybe more than the others. A nice complex story. And really enjoy Gordon Harker's portrayal. That said, I'm glad there are only 3--- I quite dislike the over-use of an exceedingly stupid police assistant. Used in far too many police/detective stories, especially ones that are trying for a little humor. Even once in the whole history of story-telling is too much when done at this level.
How come you post everything about the movie but not the description of what the movie is about? makes no sense. I won't watch a movie without knowing what the plot is about.
I like to check the 'viewers reviews' to get a general idea whether to continue. However I will not read the film's storyline as there would be no further reason to watch the film.
@@alanvogt7670 If that's what you prefer, then that is perfectly fine. Others, like myself, want to read the plot summary in advance. People are different; that's what makes them interesting.
There is something wrong with this showing !!! The VERBAL DIALOGUE IS TOO, TOO FAST !! I’ve seen this before but it’s very difficult to understand at such a speed ! THANX. JO
I've read this comment before @ fast-paced British dialogue being unintelligible, plus a lot of the humor is lost. Another commentor posted a suggestion @ slowing down the playback speed. Tap the upper right hand corner of the screen, tap the 3 dots, then tap playback speed. Tap on .75. This helps a lot with slowing down dialogue and viewing vintage British films. I'm a techno-dinosaur, trying to figure it out as I go along. This helped me; hope it is useful to you and others.
I am too lazy to look for it but, type him name read the list of his movies and watch the one that has "danger" and "green" in it. His mine, speech and actions are like a jack-hammer.

Great and entertaining film! Sharp witty dialogue in true British fashion.

"You're not backwards in coming forward are you?"
The lines in these old movies are kinda 😂
With good actors you don't need much shooting and car chases, etc. These movies show what can be done on a tight budget with the right people!
And the right screen writer.

Wonderful, suspense, humor, great cast.

Thanks for this .... Loved it!
After listening to the distressing world news it was such a treat to come upon this well done and hilarious film!
?jmj
a pity they only made 3. there should have been a series.
Agree, think these gems of todsy were contract fillers. Pity.
So sad to watch Alistair Sim smoking all the way through the movie. He died of lung cancer at 75.

@@omennemo8844Agree, the very best. “ A Christmas Carol.”
Anything with Mr. Simms is worth watching.
Yes, he's a distinctive character actor
"Sim"
No kidding Alastair Sim was great!
Enjoyed this one! Especially Army scenes.
Got to love British humor!
"The ranks!? Strooth!" -no kiddin pal.
since when did printers make their own paper, they buy it from a paper merchant who might sell to every printer in town
Very impressed that a suppressed handgun was used.
Awesome movie!!!
Excellent movie, I loved it.
Opening Credits: Only the British would try to march to a polka!😄
Love this material!!!!
Avery fun movie. Thank you for sharing it.
Love these old from movies
They don't make these' 👍classics anymore😎
I started watching this and could not stop.
r aeronca that account has a bunch of videos of him remaking 80s songs actually
"Address go up only to 75 until they extend the street to have 121". Paraphrasing, of course. 😂😂
There are other channels that have these movies without so MANY ads.
The ads are inserted by TH-cam as you watch, not the channel, so it doesn't matter where you watch on YT.
EXcellent detective movie: this one is the best😎🤖🗃
Great classic thanks 😊
Great movie🙂

Bloody Brilliant!
I love these movies.
The credits list Wally Patch, but he doesn't appear at any point. I suspect his scenes were cut from the version shown on TV.
I thought I was the problem when I couldn't understand their English - until I clicked cc and saw it couldn't either
ky le...since when are cc s correct??
This is English as it is spoken in England. 😀

Probably a really great movie if you can tolerate the ads every 10 minutes, and loud, too.

Not to be confused with the Ron Jeremy classic, "Inspector Horndog."
In those days they liked to use a lot of bald men because it helped with the lighting.
That's ridiculous. British movies used great actors regardless of looks. ....lighting...sheesh...
rob ribant......I certainly hope that you are trying to be funny!
😃
Great idea! Saves on a reflector screen, and crew to hold it!
Epic comment 😂😂😂
Go to it, old boy!
Best of the series

Is it just me? Or did anyone else think the Title of this film was called..."Inspector Horny Goes To It"?

2:35 Is that Gas MASK pouches hanging on the coat stand?
Alistar Sim with brown hair? This movie IS old :)
He got a late start, since he didn't start acting until he was 35.
Splendid

Lord Roberts in Kandahar? Oh no. Here we go again.
Cannot understand half of what they said :(
Old movies
Alistair Sim character annoyed me. I don't know if it was supposed to be funny but I just couldn't laugh. i do love these old movies though.

It’s Scrooge , lol.
These stupid ad interruptions are so total aggravating. Can't watch the movie in peace.
