I would imagine you’ve heard this a gazillion times, but I’m driven to tell you that this is NOT from 1908. This is from 1910, and all you have to do is look at the title page: on the very bottom it says, “Copyright 1910, Thomas A Edison. Remember, it’s always good to make sure that the information you provide is the correct info.
Your version is 13:40 long, but my copy is 20:40 long. I compared the two, and your copy has much less than mine. You're missing out of 7 minutes of video in this copy.
Just think, when this film was made people were still alive from 1840 when the story was written.

You are correct. Also Essanhay Studios made the 1908 one, not Edison.
A fellow TH-cam user found me a 1913 version. Pretty cool. Merry Christmas!
