Guys, I'm guessing you didn't realize the soldier in the last story (Jibaro) was deaf. That's why the siren's dance and singing didn't work on him until the end of the story, when he somehow got his audition back (that's why he was so disoriented with the sounds of the forest and his own voice)

Something I didn’t realize until watching this reaction:
You mentioned the salesman’s hair in “Mason’s Rats”, and a lightbulb in my head went off. Look at his hair, and look at how you very rarely, but surely, get a tiny tiny glimpse of a few strands of hair strutting out from the back of his head.
It’s a rat tail hairstyle. He’s the rat. On the nose? Maybe. But it was so subtle I didn’t even catch it, and I honestly love it.

I hadn’t even considered and it’s genuinely surprising that people wouldn’t get right away, that a character who’s shown along with a lack of sound is deaf; especially when there’s a big emphasis on sound.
That said, Jibaro is an absolute masterpiece.

Jibaro is pure work of art in all views. I belive as a storytelling, it is about colonialism of the Americas. Perhaps the Siren, who is guarding the lake filled with treasure, is a symbol itself for greed and pillage of the new continent - or she herself represents the Americas. But probably she is guarding the lake but she is also hunting being a predator. As the conquistadors and priests arrive, notice how they are not being crazed greed maniacs as they approach the lake, but when she screams the "spell" on them. Then their own greed is the death of them as they sink to the bottom and become a apart of the very "treasure" they were looking. Maybe the conquistadors with priests represent the European Church itself and their greed and foreceful spreading of the religion. Jibaro the deaf knight might be the small percantage of the "noble" colonialists, that did not hear the inner voice of greed. But as Jibaro explored the new "contitent" he also became the same greed and power hungry maniacs as the conquistadors at the start. Jibaro didnt surive the "spell of the witch" because he was a noble hero, but because he was deaf. Perhaps drinking of the blood soaked waters of the heart shaped lake cured him. There is so much to this story and it is full of allegories and metaphores for relationships, colonialism, religion and probably more hidden. SUCH AN AMAZING EPISODE!

@@jokerrhys4957 Yeah, I like that the episode and the ending is open for interpretations and theories.
If you know more about the Cthulhu lore by H.P. Lovecraft, there is also another way to see it.
The Eldritch is Cthulhu's brother "Kthanid" (same eyes)
Cthulhu is imprisoned in R'lyeh, a sunken city in the Pacific ocean

Kthanid is actually a benevolent entity, and he would oppose his brother if Cthulhu would ever walk the earth.
That would make the ending even more depressing, if she actually didn't free him.
If a human (a mortal) faces one of the old ones, he literally would loose his sanity (so it's not really accurate to the books lore, that she was able to resist him so much longer than the other soldier.

Ok, the story is simple the soldiers were the infamous Conquistadors and Clergy known as the Inquisition obviously after doing raids on the Aztecs and all the other sites established in region. The purpose to find gold by way of the sword, these people were killing machines, we are introduced to a unique member of this invasion force, a deaf soldier. They dismount to begin their religious ritual prayer but encountered a very powerful Siren bathed in gold whose screams triggers and draws everyone toward her with an uncontrollable murderous frenzy to their deaths.
All except the deaf soldier, he is shocked and dismayed by what he witnesses, the Siren notices and attempts to draw him; she fails, he finds a horse, mounts it and evades.
She doesn't understand and follows him, finds him, ponders with all her nature and collapses to a slumber behind the deaf soldier.
He slowly awakens the next morning sits up to find her behind him; she as well awakens and sits up locking eyes with the deaf soldier, a second later she sprints away as he grasps her arm attempting to stop her, she pulls way. Afterwards he notices something in his glove gold, he springs up and pursues her with all his might, then he finds her at the waterfalls. She approaches him with her nature, never has she met anyone like him she embraces him, she applies a kissing like gesture, he backs off confused, pushes her back, confused he touches his lips he's notices the taste of blood on his tongue he glimpses at her mouth filled with sharp teeth, she is moving her black tongue her mouth filled with blood when she re-embraces him applying the kiss a second time. he struggles with her for a time then positions on top of her looking for a way to stop her, they stare at one another then he knocks her out via a headbutt. He strips her of every piece gold on her body tossing her into the water and leaves.
As the Siren floats away, the nature of the water site connected with her being begun to stir with their healing properties, the soldier arrives at the shore where his comrades met their end.
Unknowingly he drinks the water with the healing properties within, and is affected in a unique way, he is able to hear. He reacts in shock for all his life he has only known silence, all his life.
The Siren's body comes to a halt at the same location the soldier stands, she suddenly jolts into a standing state, she regains her awareness and looks at herself in shock when she notices the changes, she's not whole and wails in sorrow the deepest sorrow, the soldier is behind her on the shore she turns and sees him turns to him and screams her Siren scale, he hears it and is drawn to his dance of death to never do harm.

Late to the party on this one James, but I too made the mistake (as did probably countless others) of thinking that to be Cthulu. It is, an Elder God, the brother of Cthulu, Kthanid. Both look identical aside from Kthanid having gold eyes, whereas Cthulu does not.
Kthanid is not a creation of Lovecraft, but is still from what I recall, an accepted part of the lore. For however evil Cthulu is, Kthanid is as good. My interpretation of the scene was Kthanid showing the soldiers visions of a (not too distant) future, in which Cthulu has been released (by mistake, happenstance or by the Cult), and he is not there to intervene. With the fact that the human mind is lost when meeting the eyes or hearing from an Elder God, the visions of warning (even Kthanid says, "Release me" instead of demands or threats), were mistaken for visions of a threat by Harper and for Coulthard, the will to release the Elder God. Coulthard compelled to release Kthanid, and Harper still of sound mind to attempt to (wrongfully) stop him highlights this. And in her last moments of sanity, after stopping Kthanid from being freed, before going insane, she is shown the extreme error of her ways.
Harper gouging her eyes out is of course an acceptable outcome for coming face to face with an Elder God, but the saddest part about this is the fact she is whimpering, "They come", which was Kthanid's warning, meaning that Cthulu will indeed be released.

Due to the hyper realistic movements of all the characters, the textures of water, blood, and the behavior of light, and a multitude of other factors, it almost looks like "Jibaro" is partly live-action, or possibly a mix of animation and motion capture, but the animation was actually done the old fashioned way, using keyframe animation and matching other reference materials to bring the animated short to life. Obviously the CGI used to generate liquid effects and other aspects is all done using high-end modern technology, but in an interview with Screen Rant, Alberto Mielgo said he and his crew actually brought in a choreographer to design the siren's dance and used footage of that performance to match the animated character's motions.

Jibaro in out of this world everytime i watch it i see something new, also its a spanish word. Its pronounce breathing the j. The soldiers seemed like conquistadors era or something the deaf soldier know how to fight because usually if you had disability they didnt want you. The dancing was both disturbing with an enchantment that you just couldn't look away. Still trying to figure out how he got his hearing back was it because he killed her? It seemed the lake itself brought her back to life because she didnt even realized the lake had her standing up. The team who created Jibaro should win an Award no joke. The last scene where my breath literally gets taken away with how the desperation mixed with pain and disorientation keeps building up with NO WORDS EVER BEING SAID it straight up a masterpiece.😩💃🤔🎶💋

About episode 8, I'm pretty sure that is not Cthulhu but his brother Kthanid, mainly because of the golden eyes, Kthanid and Cthulhu looks identical except that Kthanid has golden eyes while Cthulhu does not, and the fact that Cthulhu is imprisoned beneath the Pacific Ocean in R'lyeh also points to this not being Cthulhu . Kthanid is a good guy, and one theory I read somewhere(trying to remember where, it was another youtube video about this episode I think) one that I agree with, is that Kthanid is showing them a vision of what Cthulhu intends to do, unless Kthanid is there to stop him, but she misinterpret the meaning of the vison. As to why Kthanid would be imprisoned here, I don't know, maybe one of the Outer God or Great Old Ones managed to do it, anyway, I feel there's too much to point to this not being Cthulhu but his brother Kthanid to be mere coincidence.

Honestly makes sense, did not even know Cthulhu had a brother in the lore but that’s awesome! Definitely makes sense given the situation as well!

The Golden Woman is a Siren. She can lure Men with the sound of her voice, this is why her Cry didn’t work on the man, because he was deaf.
His hearing impairment was cured because this River or Lake is also the fountain of youth. If it is a body or source of water that is located near or around the continent of South America, it is the fountain of youth because it can heal/ resurrect people or animals. This woman is the Key to open or unlocking the Fountain of youth. Unfortunately it means she has to die in order to get the fountain flowing.

👂🏻💟❌ as in, no hearing (he’s deaf), no heart
You mean lady of the lake or something, don’t automatically resort to witch, especially if someone’s getting hurt, but then again she was in the right and he wasn’t so it’s justified...
and “how do you think of this?” History repeating this over and over and over and...?
But completely agreed, like how do humans even do this?! It literally is insane and just... damn...! I don’t even...🤯😶😍💖
and even if they said it’s about toxic relationship (which I don’t see making that much sense), to me it’s too obvious about the greed of the people invading and doing that to the natives...

I don't know if I missed something, but I still don't know how the deaf knight got his hearing back in order to be affected at the end of the last episode. Maybe drinking the siren's blood? It's an odd detail and it sticks with me.

he got punished for his greed. being able to hear may seem like a prize but it allowed her to affect him. i would assume either the forest or some sort of spirit of the lake was responsible for that because all the blood was in response to her being attacked.

I think season 3 is the best yet, they're really finding their legs. - Now... Both of you guys should watch the newly released "MAD GOD" now steaming on Shudder. This is a 30 year stop motion project by stop motion grandmaster Phil Tippett. For cinephiles like yourselves, this amazingly visionary cinema nightmare is a one of a kind and a must. You can research all you want cuz this comes off as almost a stream of conscience event. Anyone Who love stop motion will be in awe of the work done here. Not for kids.

  • @SerHergen

I interpreted Jibaro as being about toxic relationships. The deaf soldier and the lady (clearly some sort of siren) only desire each for different reasons that only benefits themselves. The lady desires the soldier because he isn't effected by her voice and the soldier only desires the siren for her riches (this could be beauty, money, fame, or anything else). This union is only destructive because it is unsustainable. The lady hurts the soldier (kiss) and he hurts her in return. He goes beyond just hurting though and takes everything he can from her (taking of the "riches"). The soldier's actions don't go unpunished. He regains his hearing and will quickly receive the siren's punishment. After the lady revives (or maybe she wasn't dead but just needned to be returned to the center of the lake), she feels violated (rightfully so). She notices the soldier is vulnerable and desires to hurt him as he hurt her. In doing so, she causes the death of the soldier. And even though she is probably justified in such an act she seems to be sad at the soldier's passing. Both contributed to the toxic relationship, but I think it is obvious that the soldier is "more in the wrong" if that is even possible to quantify.

This last episode is what we have all been waiting for.
I would say for every 5 pro comments I read for this there would be 1 which vilified it as being the worst of all 3 series.
Conquistadors arriving in the new world with their religion, bewitched by gold and wealth, the deaf Conquistador not being susceptible to its allure, then the ravaging of the land. Land returning to restore balance.
Woke they said. Some people need to be spoon fed movies, but to be fair there is Transformers, Fast & Furious for that 😅
For me this was probably top episode for the overall experience, witness for the sheer genies of what they accomplished in a simple scenario with little back or forward story and then Lucky 13. Probably the Veteran in me ruling that one.
But....for now .... our watch is done....we wait......

I have no idea who any of these characters are or what motivates them to do what they do. It's kind of like extraordinarily beautiful porn.
