Some other reactors I've seen for this ep blame the girl automatically when the guys are the ones clearly intruding in her home and environment either in search for her or to steal from her; the priests and the knights don't belong there. I personally think, she's a siren-like entity that protects the biome she's in and in turn, the environment around her protects, houses and eventually revives her. The deaf guy was spared time and time again and yet he still chose to let greed take a hold of him. Beautiful episode and beautiful reaction
I wonder if she can see through someone's intentions. The soldier only found a piece of gold from the water and that had awakened her and lead to her attack. I wonder how she would react if an innocent person or even a child took gold from the lake.
Also alot of guys are not noticing how violated she feels after ... humm
@@Nexils well from the scene at the bottom of the lake, it seems to be the likely target are the conquistadors who came to the land to kill and steal
@@ronnie22able Right?? Her final screams were heartbreaking. Reminds me of that scene from Maleficent where she was screaming after finding out her wings have been cut off. Both equally devastating, and a lot of guys fail to realize what it entails or signifies
I don't see her as anything related to nature. She is totally synthetic with her make up and jewels implanted as skin. Product of a different human-derived culture with power and purpose. A dark one. They are both monsters in their own right. Both losers in the end. And their loses doesn't feel undeserved, but they make both very sympathetic.
There's something so tragic about the siren's final dance. Even tho she's a monster, the difference from how vibrant and beautifully she moved in the beginning is so stark, it's just heartbreaking.
Why is she a "monster"?
@@lxos I wouldn’t call her a monster since I think she represents the danger of lands that don’t belong to them, but she dooooes resemble the traditional siren monster.
She's not a monster. If anything it was the invaders who were monsters.
@@theascendunt9960 Absolutely. She may be “literally” a siren monster, but the message is that colonizers are the monstrous, unforgivable creatures.
I got the vibe that she was a goddess, not a monster.
The first set of reactors who actually understood the story being told. Most people immediately see her as evil but she's just protecting her land from conquistadors that came to literally rape and pillage her land. She killed those knights because they were going to do to her exactly what the deaf knight did to her in the end, used her for all she was worth then tossed her aside. Great reaction!
Thank you Sarah!
She is not very good than.
@@ezekielsilva5360 what is good?
@@WikiZeruel for me, nothing
@@ezekielsilva5360 I guessed it.
"Plié dat ass here, boy!!!" 😂😂😂
When I first watched this, I took in the meaning behind it as part collonialism (conquistadors) taking without refrain from the lands they visit, but also the more direct reference of assault (especially s*xual). She was so beautiful and mesmerizing, and then contrasted with the pain, and her relative 'ugliness' and skin flakes. Something so crucial to her identity has been robbed forcefully while she was unconscious, and from what we see there's no certainty that she can regenerate what she lost bc of one man's greed. It could be a permanent scar
"Pliet that ass here, boy!" HA!
Totally forgot it was animation after a while. When he starts dancing, I'm like, "Man, these actors are good!"
"That's a masterpiece, wtf!"
It truly is.
The fact she felt she found someone and he was just like all the others....it's so sad. She is a monster as well its such a toxic relationship...so crazy.
I've actually heard stories of people who gain hearing after being deaf for their entire life. It's a harrowing experience that people who can hear just wouldn't understand. I heard about this one kid who gained the ability to hear and then freaked the fuck out when he used a toilet because he didn't know they made that much noise when you flush them.
I'm glad you guys got this. A lot of male reactors and a bunch of comments let their weird gender politics or misogyny restrict the story to meaning nothing.
It's a fascinating idea of love, greed and tragedy and colonialism.
jibaro is #1 for me. the artistry (visual, movement, sound, expressions) all around still blows my mind. i loved that the story was told so powerfully with no words. i loved the passion/emotions that the characters portrayed through body movement (even the way the soldier knelt and leaned his head against his sword when he found his injured horse). every gesture spoke immense volumes. i love how we don't see the siren's eyes in the final scene. And her hair is slicked all the way back too. The whole look!!! there was so much packed into that one and every time i watch, i'm sure i'll see something new. i also love how it's open to many interpretations (beyond the obvious one).
This is probably the best episode of the show. The animation, the story, the meaning behind it, it's great.
Ep 9 and 2 is my fav in v3
Not a word spoken and still one of the best eps in the show. Absolutely goated
My favorite episode. So unique and contemporary
it's a visual masterpiece, it was nominated for Emmy's.
It's nice to see reactors who appreciate the artwork and also didn't miss the core message of the episode. the commentary was hilarious too keep it up, guys.
Loved this episode the most. I've never seen anything like it. If it's somehow possible for a netflix episode to win awards, Jibaro is deserving of it
I don't even know how to rank this one. It's on such a different level. Pure art. Pure pure art.
No mo-cap, none, they got a group of excellent dancer to create the story and reference. Then they animated. Damn. And yes, these were the same folks that did The Witness
By far, the best, right up with Bad Traveling. So much symbolism and emotion by the end. Men in armor rape what they find for gold. She first was all into seduction, but by the end she was just in pain and anguish, and a shell of her former self.
She is a Siren. Siren’s are known in mythology for seducing their victims w/ song or the sound of their voice. Hence why all of the soldiers begin fighting eachother fiercely in a race to get to her.
She collects treasure and gold from all of her victims, hence why she’s covered head to toe in gold jewelry and trinkets, which in turn also become a part of her.
The army of soldiers was summoned there by that group of old men (Could be priests) to kill the Siren, I’m assuming because she is deadly to anyone who encounters her, and also so that they can collect her gold treasure beneath the depths of the lagoon.
She becomes attracted to the deaf soldier because he is the only one she’s come across who is immune to her deadly voice. However, he only cares about her riches, so he kills her (or so he thinks). Drinking her blood gives him the ability to hear for the first time in his life, which causes him to go mad, and ultimately leads to his demise once the Siren re-emerges from the lagoon and lured him into the depths of her nest where his armor pulls him under to his death.
It’s a beautifully tragic short tale that was masterfully crafted in CGI. I thought it was real when I first watched it, aside from some brief moments where it’s pretty obvious it’s animated. At the very least I thought the location was real, but I was wrong. The whole thing was computer animated from start to finish. This has easily become my number one favorite LD+R episode. Bad Traveling comes in second.
The director wanted to portray and tale of two predators in a relationship. The siren manipulates and destroys men. And only seeks jibaro out because he doesn't fall for her. Jibaro becomes possessive and greedy and strips her of her treasure. The a lot of symbolism and subtext. Neither is really good or bad.
The brief affection they show one another is shadowed by the pain they inflicted on each other. She wants him regardless if it hurts him as seen in them kissing and he bleeds and her not caring. He wants what she can give him and hurts her to get it and he doesn't care.
They both just use and abuse each other without caring how it hurts their partner. In the end they both leave each other broken and shells of their former selves. There more context and symbolsim but yeah. No one is right or wrong, they both just face the consequences of hurting one another.
Lol. "Geebarro". It's Jíbaro pronounced hee-bah-roh. Puerto Rican (indigenous/Spanish) word for a farmer from the mountain country side. You're welcome.
This, to me, is an interpretation of the colonization of the Caribbean/Western hemisphere. The men, the Spanish conquistadors were paying homage to were Catholic priests. Catholicism was used by conquistadors who used it to "convert" the indigenous by way of rape, torture, mass genocidal murder & claim to all the gold & riches of the Caribbean & the western hemisphere. The lagoon goddess could possibly be the African deity Oshun, she who lives in the rivers as opposed to Yemayá who guards the oceans. She was most likely attracted to the soldier because she might've thought he was sent to her to be her companion since he didn't die by her screams. He also wasn't White like the conquistadors so, she probably thought she could trust him. In the end he succumbed to his greed like all the others & suffered the same fate.
She, to me, represents mother nature & how she will always have the final say even if she is hurt or harmed.
Well said,.. I'm sorta surprised by the other reaction videos of Jibaro, where people didn't get it and the history of colonization and how brutal the conquistadors were to the indigenous people. Which the director wanted to bring attention to in his film, and about toxic relationships too.
Thank you for this comment, I thought the correlations were obvious..it's sad that this concept went over people's heads...especially the commentators...coño!
I believe this interpretation is spot on!! Well done and thank you for sharing.
@@ronnie22able Thanks. Just goes to show how important it is that the indigenous people of the world need our stories told. I'm working on that.
@@STEMnomad Thanks & you're welcome. It's shocking how much the world doesn't know about our history. Tragic & disgraceful. Literally billions died.
Hauntingly beautiful! I believe she was the lands protector as a siren. And the knights was conquistadors looking to steal the gold. So she lures them to their death. Maybe it's symbolism for all the indigenous people murdered for greed. It was so sad to see that she was tricked and stripped of her gold
1. Zima Blue
2. Beyond the Aquila Rift
3. Jibaro
“Let’s cuddle. What the fuck.” 😂 this episode is a masterpiece but that comment made me lol
i wasn't ready for "plie that ass here"!! literally crying laughing at that
This episode was from the same director and largely the same team that made Witness, at least in the matte painting artists :D Witness is still my favourite love death and robots episode but this took place 2. Just incredible stuff. I just love the realistic 2d texturing on 3d models and the matte paintings in the backgrounds :D
my top 3 of season 3 were 1. Jibaro, 2. Bad traveling 3. the very pulse of the machine.
The last soldier is deaf and dumb. After deceiving all he could hear and speak. She is being called by the voice of that gold lady. Like everyone else, he too gets absorbed in the ocean.
Another studio that blows my mind every time , luv these guys and this short.
There something intangibly appealing about every aspect of this episode. They captured magic here.
This shit blew my mind first time i saw it .. i actually stood for a good 5mins after .. trying to realize wtf just happened. And those visuals and sound design .. uhhhh.
This! Is! The! Best! Episode! of! The! Show!!!
Also, all I want in life now is a Star Wars animated show with this animation!
you'll notice that the men in charge of the knights are priests, and the knights seem to be wearing conquistador armor. im pretty sure the knights are spanish colonizers and the siren is a south american native who is bound to the lake/river in some way. the colonists invaded her home and likely slaughtered the natives around her (sidenote, she's covered in jewels/gold but can't seem to regenerate any herself. did the natives give her those as offerings? maybe she had a close relationship with them.)
so yeah, i don't blame her for killing most of the soldiers. it was legitimately self-defense if my theory is correct.
This episode was done by the same studio that worked on the witness
this episode was crazy, disturbing in a way but kinda beautiful also in a fucked up way :D cool story, top visuals, well directed, sound design was awesome, definitely top 10 LDR eps :) top 3 would be Bad Travelling, Pop Squad and Sonnie's Edge :) then to make top 5 it would be Secret War and Witness :) Jibaro though is close, definitely finished the season off on a high :)
You guys would be right to relate this to The Witness, it's the same team and directors.
No motion capture, all key-frame animation with visual reference. In an interview, apparently they tried mocap in an attempt to speed up the process for some parts and they hated it so ended up scrapping that idea.
Watch every series for the first time on some kind of psychedelic it hits different especially this episode
Nothing about this was stop motion guys but ya the animation was top notch
This ones my fav, visually, the bgm towards the end, Beautiful eps, man, can't get over the visuals
Also, this episode was done by the guy who did The Witness in LD&R Vol 1
Pop squad, Zima blue, night of the mini dead
Been waiting for this episode since the release. Loved your reaction. Bad Travelling and Jibaro were the best in this volume
Only those who know history know what this is about 🌟💜🌙🐸
Def a good episode. Not my in my favorites, but still pretty good. From what i've seen this is one of the most disliked episodes in general. I saw a lot of comments on tiktok, twitter, instagram, youtube of people completely disliking this one. Which to be honest is fair. Still, witness is one of my favorites, and this one was pretty good.
I unfortunately watched this the first time while on gummies. It felt like I was watching a full length 2 hr movie. I loved it but I was terrified.
But I wanna know what happens to her. Does she regrow her gold and jewels? Does she die?
You get alot of people misinterpret this episode as "its Collonialism! cos Consquistadors!" .. lol.. where in fact.. its far from it. its about love/relationship and losing, The metaphor in this is so strong. From the Siren herself.. to the Deaf Man.
So.. dont listen to the so call "Experts" .. just ask the episode's creator.. they will tell you what its REALLY about..
It can be about Colonialism and Toxic relationships at the same time. The themes of both concepts runs through the story.
It's not my favorite of volume 3 but objectively I would have to put it in my overall top 3 for love death + robots. My favorite this volume was probably Swarm
Greatest episode
Awesome episode
Such a cute couple!
