We have a box fan running out of an open window almost year round, except when we replace the fan with a window A/C. We don't have a furnace and heat the entire downstairs level with space heaters in the winter. So a little bit of air flow is nice to have.
We used some leftover blue insulation sheets from our project years ago of covering cinder block basement walls as the sturdy frame for it, and attached 3 layers of 20" furnace filters to it. Duck tape is your best friend for this.
It allows the air to vent out, yet traps anything floating through the air like cat fur & dust. And as a bonus, the 3 layer thick furnace filters provides privacy from anyone looking into that room who might be outside next door.
A dear 80 year old friend taught us this trick for anyone with pets. If you don't have some sort of ventilation system in your house, any fur & dust would just settle everywhere and you'd constantly be needing to clean & dust your house, but this setup allows airflow and filters the air that would've otherwise been trapped in your house.
That pink insulation mark on the window looks exactly like the ring we get on our fan/furnace filters design.

Great work as always however I agree with one of the other comments...the faux beams really date this space. Try and convince the customer if this!! And as a 35 year seasoned contractor I would love to hear about pricing on these projects as I’m sure many subscribers would as well. Keep up the excellence guys!!

You can tape a furnace filter to the back of the box fan (i.e. 20x20) to filter any dust or particles. Not as good as a hepa, but a significantly cheaper alternative

  • @MySqueakyfoot

Great video. During demo I prefer using a 3 lb hand sledge hammer, shorter swing and easier to manage indoors. When removing walls I cut the rock in between bays with a sawzall using a snipped off blade around 1-3/4". Quick, clean and easy to stack up and haul away. There are dozens of ways, just as many tricks- it's whatever is convenient. I'm working on a ranch remodel in NJ right now, and I'm definitely going to follow you along the way.

(I realize cost varies state by state, etc.) I believe the components are: structural engineer, materials & labor install. I am not doing myself but I want to know what to look for AND I find this stuff fascinating. Thanks, Rob
