    Have been in Clayton for 2 years. Amazing town and at worst, commute to the triangle is an hour.

      @LifeInRaleighNC  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Depending where one’s from that may or may not be a deal breaker. And if you someone doesn’t need to commute into Raleigh everyday..even better! Coming from California a 30-45 minute drive..even an hour..nobody blinked. It was just how it was. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    I escaped Long Island, NY in 1996 to Knightdale. (Shout out to Cross Point Community Church in the KD) after a couple of years bought our first house in Johnston County. Bigger bang for your buck and away from Wake County Schools. (Buffalo Creek sub div) We bought our "forever home" in 2005 in Flowers Plantation Points sub div. We love it!!!!! I find the growth exciting! Yes there are growing pains. The biggest is the never ending Hwy 42 east widening project. BTW Hwy 42 pizza is good NY Pizza. The food options are getting better every week it seems. The water is the only thing that is more expensive than any utility in NY. Still do not understand why. My family , Wife, son, and daughter are all car enthusiast so we love driving. So driving 25 mins to the ice rinks in Garner, Raleigh, or Wake Forest is no big deal for us. My son works near Brier Creek and does not mind the drive. It is basically what are you willing to give up? As for a deli, you have Gotham's deli in Smithfield right down the road. (20 mins) that serves NY style breakfast. Voted Best deli in the triangle for many consecutive years. Scott the owner is from Long Island. NY sports is the decor. My wife's family (also from NY first moved to KD) They followed us to Flowers. My family also followed us to Clayton. We all Love it. Just so you know my sub div is about 70% transplants. CARY= Cocky Arrogant Relocated Yankees. Well CLAYTON is Cary Like Area Yankees Take Over Next. The Flowers Waterfront District is going to be JoCo's North Hills. Clayton is also getting a "mixed use" development within it's city limits.

      I’m happy you escaped! I have many friends here who fled too 😅 thank you for the pizza and deli recommendations I’ll definitely try them both out 😇 coming from NY & CA we are used to driving 30ish-1hr but a lot of people seem to tap out after a 10-20 minute drive out here for some reason. Personally I find the country roads relaxing to drive and wouldn’t trade them for the CA freeways again 😝 It’s amazing the growth Clayton’s had just in the 6 yrs we’ve been here and I agree the never ending road construction on the 42 🤪 it’ll definitely be worth it and much needed when the waterfront hotels built! Really looking forward to that and more shopping in the area!

    We had to move here to be very close to family that moved so there was no searching around for us. We have some property with new build but you can’t have visitors or big family gatherings there is nowhere to park and the streets are narrow. The water drain ditches are ugly and scary. The clay dirt is hard to grow anything. And I don’t get how is Clayton going to be like Cary? Flowers keeps building tighter homes and apartments and a hotel but no shopping like Cary. We have to go to garner 20 minutes away. There are lots of Food Stores but lack everything else. It is nice and the people I have found are really nice also.

      There’s definitely some big differences living here. I was also surprised when we first moved here how close the homes are with tighter street and many neighborhoods with no sidewalks or only on one side (minus flowers plantation). In CA our neighborhood streets were big enough (and allowed) to park on Both sides and there was still room to have a car on either side drive opposing directions! IDK why builders don’t do that here (besides the obvious $$).
      The “dirt” here is clay & I can’t grow much I have to use garden beds to grow things. Shopping is a definite pain point here in Clayton it’s amazing for how many houses are here there’s no really big shop centers 🤨
      I’m glad you at least got to be close to family here and hope all is well 🩵

    Does it flood often because of the Neuse?

    • @LifeInRaleighNC
      @LifeInRaleighNC  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It has been known to flood especially during heavy rainfall and during g hurricane season with the heavy rainfall. There are some subdivisions and homes that have the Neuse river literally in their backyard…We never had an issue where we lived in Clayton but the homes sat much higher than the river there.

    When we escap...I mean "Moved" from the "Eastside" of Seattle (we lived a few minutes from Microsoft), we had researched several areas. NC, from my younger experiences (military kid) , was the top.
    We sold near the market's top, bought a house in CH yet rented for about 9 months in Washington. Seems counter intuitive, but one of our kids was doing their 1st year at UW and the price increase here outstripped what we paid in rent.
    The only thing I will say to everybody moving in- "Do not try to turn this place into where you came from." You left there for a reason. I watch Seattle (really the whole state due to the population density disparity) fall further & further down with a sadness & inversely laughing- why laughing? Because I told people it was a recipe for disaster and got snickered at.
    I'll gladly put up with "No Gigi" restaurant close by, no "High end retail" 2 minutes away if it means no dirty needles, feces, or the rank smell of rancid urine on the streets. Car windows not getting bashed in, vehicle ransacked & cops not doing anything (if you can find one- they dont have enough detectives to work sexual assaults). Deranged people all over the streets & on public transit. Think Im joking? Watch "Seattle is Dying,"Seattle: the Utopian Lie," "The Choe Show," and/or "News for Reasonable People"
    Vote with your heads & logic, not for "Pretty words" and emotion.

      That seems to be the “local” running theme here is NOT to try and turn it into the place/city you left! We love it here and hope it stays a beautiful and thriving community for all! We are so happy you are here and loving it!

    so move and your a realtor? geez how negative-- guess your not trying to find your target market! You can either continue to go through life telling everybody about the negative things or you can find the positive things and focus on that

      Thanks for watching! Yes I am a realtor and many of my clients appreciate my transparency. I tell the positive and negatives of a town and let people decide if it’s a place they’d consider moving. I have a video on all the positives of Clayton as well 💜 And for those that know me I am a very positive person 🙃
