You were confused about the brief moment where Ochaco thinks of Toga because the dub messed that up. In that moment, Ochaco is actually talking about how she wants a future where everyone can smile again. This is when she surprises herself by thinking of Toga's tears. She realizes that she can't really speak about saving everyone's smile if she ignores Toga's pain. It's an important moment for her. Toga is to Ochaco what Shigaraki is to Deku.

Though you didn't include that moment in the reaction, I still want to clarify something. In the dub the line Uraraka says before having that flashback of Toga is _'Lend him your support, so he could fight for us!'._ Well, what Ochako actually was saying here is _'So please, lend him your strength... So we can smile together in the future!'_ [cue the flash of *crying* Toga]. Don't know why the script writers for the dub decided to change it this way, but the original line was making it way more clear why Uraraka, who was just thinking about how she always paid attention to and cared about people around her smiling and being happy, and who is talking about _everyone smiling together in the future,_ suddenly thought back to Toga (specifically, her tears). Especially when the context of that conversation was Toga basically asking Uraraka if she considers her a person.

And another not so fun fact, the hero in Uraraka's flashback is the one Twice's final clone killed to save Toga and Compress. Toga later transformed into him to fight the heroes (episode 3 and episode 6?) I can't quite put my finger on why but it feels so sad connecting Uraraka's flashback hero to a victim of the girl she is narratively tied to.

*Probably the hardest I’ve ugly-cried in a while. Also, if I’m being honest, I can’t say that I blame the civilians for feeling and acting this way. The presence of One for All puts them all in danger, so it’s no wonder why they’re so on-edge. Still, I’m happy Uraraka was able to make them calm down a little bit. In the grand scheme of things, Uraraka’s speech was more than just to calm everyone down. It’s like a turning point for hero society as a whole.*

Love the parallel of episode 2 in this episode. All Might at the start who recognised Izuku’s hero potential despite his lack of quirk, whilst Uraraka validated Izuku’s existence besides the existence of his quirk. They both saved his heart. All Might by saying what Izuku wanted to hear and Uraraka saying what Izuku needed to hear. The music and the imagry is also completely parallel to this moment!

13:35 It's a little hard to hear, but that's the All-Might theme in the background, but reorchestrated in the violins with a somber tone that's less caricatured hero. It's more grounded, realistic, and for the time being, almost timid and still recovering, but you can hear that it's building back up. It's All-Might's legacy, but it's new and different for the next generation.

Ururaka had that image of Toga flashing in her mind, because she finally understood where Toga was placed in society her entire life:
For most people Toga was a „bother“ or something to be afraid of. Deku during this arc, especially in that moment, was regarded the same.
Before starting to cry, Toga said to Ururaka „it’s hard for me to exist in this world“ … „people told me hold it in, be normal“ „Jin was a good person to me, but he was killed“.
So Ururaka understands that a) Toga needs help, b) that her support system even though twisted was taken away from her and c) that her entire life no one spoke up for Toga in front of society.
Deku and Ururaka during this arc both came to the same conclusion but for different people.

@@samuelclayhills3298 she wasn’t a murderer until high school. And she sucked on birds as a kid before, but instead of helping her or looking for a different solution, her parents were simply grossed out.
It’s a pretty similar backstory to Dabi if you think about it.
It’s like ignoring a person with severe mental health issues/ mental disabilities who is stressed out constantly by their surroundings and then being surprised why that person is acting up.
Toga cried the entire time while drinking the blood of the boy she had a crush on. It’s not right ofcourse, but it’s also not as easy as „she’s a monster“

    • @Ryan_gogaku
      @Ryan_gogaku ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@samuelclayhills3298 I sympathize with what you're saying, but I think that's precisely Horikoshi's point. Some people have truly serious issues and might never be compatible with society as it's organized now. Pedophilia, for example, is a horrific crime that deeply scars others and cannot be tolerated in society, but what do we do about would-be pedophiles? What do we do for them? How do we make it such that they can coexist with others safely and have their own form of self-realization and fulfilling life? Imagine the worst possible people. If we don't at least try to "save" them, then we're still just propping up a society with untouchable villains who have no chance of redemption or happiness, and who might take that as reason to try to burn it all down. Toga is terrifying, and a murderer, but if we can't save her, it's only a matter of time before she hurts others and herself. I'll be the first to admit that I don't know what saving someone like Toga would mean, either in-universe or in our world. It's a really hard question, but I think that's what the author is asking us as readers and Deku/Uraraka that as heroes.

Something about seeing someone stand up for Deku, when everyone is against him (which is reminiscent of his earlier years) is just so heartwarming. How I took it, the reason that she thought of Toga, it's been eating at her for awhile. Her purpose is a hero is to try and save people, and she was so focused on the fact that they were fighting, she didn't realized Himiko was basically asking for help. And her response was "you deserve anything that happens to you". When she realized how toga interpreted that, as she diserves to die, Ochaco felt horrible about it, because it's antithetical to what her beliefs of hero should be. Basically she want to revisit that conversation and give Toga a different answer.

6:47 - 7:32 Man, you really hit the nail on the head. I can already tell that if I was in a situation where I could be punished for speaking in favor of something I believe in, I’d just stay quiet 10 times out of 10.
There is this part of me that thinks “no I’d speak up if it was affecting someone I care about”, which both baffles me and makes a lot of sense to me. I’ve consumed so much anime at this point I feel like it’s part of my DNA, and all of my real life friends value friendship very very deeply.
There was this one time at my job some customer got super angry and got real snappy at me, a literal Karen is the best I can describe it. I didn’t so much as flinch, get nervous, or lose my composure, in fact, I pulled the “let me get my manager” card before she could, and I now look back on that as a funny joke, like “oh hell yeah, I dealt with a Karen, go me!”
A few months later, I was working a shift with a friend, and another Karen showed up and got super snappy for no good reason at him. This time, I got **angry**, and while I didn’t ultimately do anything that time either, I look back on the scene thinking “should’ve refused her service and told her to leave.” The reason I didn’t was because I was worried I’d get written up for that, didn’t even consider the Karen lashing out at me.
I find what you said interesting because it makes me think back to something Overhaul said in Season 4. “It’s so much easier to be hurt yourself than to watch others get hurt for you.” Every time I think about that line, I always find myself believing it’s true, which I don’t understand because I thought humans were inherently selfish creatures?

Okay, this is not important at all but if you notice when the principal is talking about the underground tunnels and how long they've been there, some of the students ( I think kirishima, tokoyami, and shoji) point at each other. I think that's a super niche reference to one of the spin off series to MHA called "School Briefs" where they got stuck in some tunnels under UA or something like that. That spin off is a series of light novels that details a lot of Class 1A's time during the series that isn't shown in the anime or manga, and apparently its cannon if I'm not mistaken. It's completely unrelated to the episode 😂, but you might enjoy them, I've been trying to get them for a while.

What would happen if the last step is the Shingaraki - the lost child - gaining one for all, with 10 heroes standing behind him? The best of both worlds - seeing the flaws of the old system but having the compassion from Deku to fix them. AFO defeated not in some climactic duel, but by being proven wrong about human nature in the end.

This episode is among the most important ones in the show. XD I got so giddy getting ready for this episode. Because it’s so emotional, but it also goes much deeper than that.
I think today is the day I make an accusation 1st and foremost. Let’s talk about Principal Nezu. He was my prime suspect for being the UA traitor from the MOMENT the storyline appeared. He has the motive, the means, and the ability to be a further threat if ever found. Does this episode absolve him like I absolved Present Mic and Vlad King in the beginning of the season? …..Well, I’m trying to find a word that can sound fancy enough to fit the situation. In ZERO WAYS has this character been absolved. My suspicions of Nezu have only grown and not lessened. And I’m saying this because it’s NOT confirmed. So I wanted to lay out most of my suspicions NOW. Alright, so this is the smartest character in the show. Bar none. And it’s this reality that makes a number of his recent moves VERY suspicious.
    1. The UA barrier itself. Oh don’t mind me, I just personally paid for a place that looks like Tartarus and have complete faith it’s going to work…against AFO and AFS. Which by the way, the underground labyrinth route is so complex train cars or no that I’m wondering how the heck the evacuees are expected to use such an escape route. I said this place is more a prison less a sanctuary for a reason.
    2. The press conference. Remember when I asked whose bone headed was it to announce on live TV exactly which shelter the most targeted families are going to? Yeah it had to be freaking Nezu. In the SAME press conference as the one where Endeavor said how horrible he was to his family. The timing of which is so ungodly horrifying I can’t even BEGIN to justify it.
    3. Contributions to quirk morality in society. Which is in absolute perfect condition across this show with no notes. And…not what is often under MASSIVE problems.
    4. OFA. Literally EVERY person who knows the depths of OFA has made contributions. Recovery Girl, Gran Torino, Tsukauchi, Nighteye, but NOT Nezu. He hasn’t helped All-Might instruct Deku despite All-Might being an AWFUL teacher, he hasn’t spoken to Izuku ONCE. And as he explains to people Izuku is coming back, THIS is what we are greeted with.
If Nezu isn’t a villain in some sense of the word at this juncture, as the human hating rat that likes to get his vengeance…I’d be genuinely stunned. And I’d say Nezu is the most underutilized character in MHA. Just…needed to air that out. And I haven’t even gotten out half of my suspicions. Just the stuff in the anime this season and small amounts of last.
Ok. Enough of that. I want to talk about sweetheart Uraraka. I mentioned a few episodes ago how I view exhausted empathy. A pet name I give what is basically extreme empath depression. And how it can completely crush if not destroy an empath. And I said only people with complete trust of the empath can really shake them loose of the state. I said if you believed Bakugo was capable of saving Deku, you’d be EXTREMELY mistaken. There were only 2 I could suspect that could accomplish this. 1 was Iida, the other much better choice was Uraraka. Had Iida not made his moment about how he needs to live up to Ingenium and made more personal concerns for Izuku, I wouldn’t doubt he’d be able to help him. (But we’d also need to remember Iida once literally punched Izuku in the face and he STILL didn’t listen to him over his resolve.) It always had to be Uraraka. She is the ONLY person that has given Izuku faith up front with no test, no proving himself, and no long winded convincing arc. She treated him like a completely normal person OUTRIGHT, and NEVER wavered no matter how strong he got, no matter how bizarre his quirk got, no matter what he went through, she ALWAYS knew to treat him like a normal person. And upon finding out he has a 200 year quirk that is essentially the light god doomed to fight the 200 year equivalent dark god over and over? Didn’t matter. None of it mattered.
She’s seen it all. She saw Izuku nervous in front of the school? She encouraged him. He sacrifices himself to save her in their 1st test? I’m getting him in personally because he should’ve gotten points of his own. She encourages him through the cavalry battle, and roots for him to make it to the finals. Checks on him after the Stain battle personally to make sure he’s ok. And then we get into 2 of the biggest hints. The camp attack Deku spends the ENTIRE arc on adrenaline running around with busted arms. And only stops ONCE. Because Uraraka tells him to so she can make him splints. When he goes to save Bakugo from the league, he only wavers ONCE in his resolve to save him. When Kirishima tells him Uraraka didn’t want to take part in their rescue mission idea because she didn’t want to humiliate Bakugo who refuses help from everywhere. But it just keeps going further with her support in the Overhaul raid and she’s most concerned over Izuku’s thoughts on letting Eri go because she knows that’s the biggest strain in the room. And she STILL doesn’t waver after WATCHING his infinite 100%. Decides to calm him down by hugging him as Blackwhip goes haywire. And evolving her costume in case he needs backup like that again. It’s been in the background sure, and she takes her own path as a hero, but EVERY conclusion she makes gets her back to Izuku. Not because he decides, but it puts her new resolve into practice.
And now? She frees him even if briefly of the god conflict, she calms the crowd which is among his biggest emotional burdens yet, she brings every last bit of support from what he carries the most and has them help him. Freeing him of being the next All-Might. And allowing people to see him. Which people have failed time and time again throughout this story. EXCEPT her. All in one go. While living up to every resolve and dream she’s had, and no confession of love. Which while ABSOLUTELY inevitable, it wasn’t the time even though many stories would absolutely believe it to be the moment to do so.
Love that the 1st civilian in the story is the one that comes to the conclusion that we’ve had them on a stage. But their battlefield has always been right there in front of us. And it’s gotten too big for the stage. This isn’t a stage. They are breaking themselves to accomplish these “shows.” And the public has spit on them for not making this entertainment. But all they care about is saving all of us. And things can’t fit on stage. It’s why when All-Might battled AFO in their primes, he was smart enough to keep it off the stage.
What a fantastic emotional episode. Seeing Izuku cry normal again which thank GOODNESS. Empaths gotta cry like that. And he is free of his heart which was becoming a prison with his collapse. He isn’t safe, but he’s free. And that is a HUGE step forward. (And I don’t think Deku will ever be All-Might, but I still think the surpassing will occur. My OFA theory stands firm.)

While Nezu is pretty sus, how do you explain his inner monologues? Honestly, that's the only thing really keeping me from suspecting him of being the traitor

@@JalapenoFlower if you look at them from the purview of being a villain, they often take a different tone. Say his monologue about the school dorms for instance. His plan to show the parents they are stronger and more attentive about their kids is to have them move out.
And I don’t know if you’re a parent or have a good idea what it’s like, the plan actually seems MORE counterproductive than helpful. Or his hero speech about making the next extra step to be higher than All-Might. If he truly believed this, why didn’t HE make any extra steps. And he may have not been expecting an extra step to be made if his plan was to make an uneasy mob against Izuku. Things like that.

I think Toga is there in Ochako’s mind because she realizes that people like Toga, who were forced out of the old hero society, need a place somewhere in Ochako’s vision of the new hero society. She realized that she may have even had and lost a chance to bring Toga into this newer vision of society. I think it’s largely meant to reinforce that their society, whatever form it takes, needs to address the people who have traditionally fallen through the cracks and were forgotten to improve.

My guess about the toga flashing picture :
It happend as she sais "[deku]Fight for us" (il sub version -> a future where everyone can smile). IMO, it is leading to the question of who is there for the most dark part of "the word is grey". Is toga going to smile, or cry/not being understand like their last interaction
Maybe the fact than toga kinda trust Ochako to converse with her made her feel involved into helping her fate

IDK if taxes go toward hero agencies at all, but as a taxpayer, I guess I'd be pretty peeved if my house got nuked by a giant mole man. That's the only logic I can use to understand these civilians who are just hating on everyone. I mean, they're distraught, but at some point you have to have some perspective.

Sometimes the dub script can be off a bit to not hit as hard. I liked the more direct title drop in the sub about letting Deku stay at his hero academia.
