It's a shame 3D Dot Game Heroes hasn't been ported elsewhere than the PS3, it feels like it could do even better financially if ported to Modern Systems, hell I'll buy a copy of that port if it makes the jump. I do want to try that game again at some point, it's really fun.
Great list; but it should also be noted that 7 of the 10 games have received improved ports or remasters on more current generation PlayStation consoles, so they'd be more enjoyable if played on newer hardware.
@@Palendrome CRT's? PS3 has an HDMI port and can easily be played on new TV's without a converter. I prefer playing games on original hardware. Sure, I'll take a remaster every now and again, but I always prefer the OG.
@@TucBroder Every new console has HDMI. PS3 and 360 were the last generation to have analogue outputs so to me it is more special to play their games on CRTs if the games support 4:3. And yeah like I said most ports suck
So glad to see 3D Dot Game Heroes mentioned here! Easily one of my favorite PS3 exclusives 👍. Folklore I got last year, and have been wanting to play it, and hearing what you said definitely sold me on it. Awesome video as always man!
KoA was a victim of poor management and marketing. The game actually turned out pretty good, but the company bankrupt itself. It was a whole thing. I'm glad they remastered it!
Interesting list, one which I would strongly argue against in some spots (particularly due to the exact games being available as essentially rereleases on more powerful hardware) but thats the appeal of these list videos. Folklore is an interesting one as it definitely became more popular when ppl looked back on it rather than at the time it was released. It was a launch PS3 title which meant that it had an element of forced motion controls to make use of the Sixaxis controller. That rubbed ppl the wrong way back then.
I really liked Star Ocean The Last Hope! Probably my favorite of the 3D ones. Loved Tales of Xillia 2 as well. The story was very sad though lol! I also liked Kingdoms of Amalur though I never finished it. Got close but my PS3 died on me and I lost my save data progress. Same with the original Dragon's Dogma though I don't think I lost much. I did try and start Dragon Age: Inquisition but I haven't played all the DLC of the previous games so I wanted to make sure I got everything all set up. I did play some Folklore back in the day but never got far. My friend liked it more than me. Demon's Souls I loved a lot! It was my first Souls game and I sucked lol but over time I got through it and I can get through it easier with each playthrough.
God I love the 7th Gen, it was awesome ! Although I recommend I lot of those on Xbox 360 (except exclusives), as they're superior performance wise compared to PS3 versions, and some of them, like mentioned, have modern ports/remasters.
Really interesting that every single game except Folklore and 3d Dot Game Heroes got a remaster/port to modern consoles. If I was doing a "Must have PS3 games" list I'd try to stick to exclusives
I figured amalur would be on this list but unless you only have a ps3/xbox 360, it was remastered recently for all modern platforms and even got an expansion.
Folklore was definitely a unique concept and definitely a game I was looking forward to a lot❤ Unfortunately the required motion control aspect of the game mechanics made the game unplayable for me as I ended up hurting my wrists ….. really wish motion controls were not mandatory to play the game😈 Was a bit frustrating to dive into the game and discover the Motion control system as it was never mentioned in any reviews I watched🤔 noir did my copy of the game give any indication it was a game requirement….
When I've played it on PS3 it was really good. But... the game aged poorly as I discovered with Switch version. I've already found the story super boring on ps3, and it is boring again. The combat while having a lot of cool skills to unlock ends up in boring mashing square/ triangle and then sometimes to use special move. Not to mention that the camera is so bad. It doesn't mean the game is bad, it is still solid; it is just not as good compared to other modern action rpgs such as Witcher 3 for example.
@@DaakkuuYRS Thanks for the insights, yes many games aged very badly but its the matter of the specific game how much u can ignore the weak aspects of it in my opinion. And that could be the reason of nostalgia simply or other aspects being very strong of that game🤗 i guess graphics are peak example of this.
I personally LOVED KoA, though I will admit that it does overstay it does wear out its welcome IF you attempt to complete all the sidequests, etc. The PS4 or PC version ("Re-reckoning") is the best way to play it, though I hear the Switch port is decent if that's your only option. Definitely some of the most engaging ARPG combat ever designed.
@@AwRy108 i hate side quests 😁 most games just have them as fluff and padding, not contributing to the main story. Rarely u find games with meaningful side quests that not only add a shining loot and xp. 😁
I heard or read somwhere that some of the cutscenes in Star Ocean are over an hour long, is that true? Dragons Dogma looks good, thanks for letting us know about it 🤘
The list seems to be utterly lacking any of the Shooter based combat action RPGs that were on PS3. I would also put Kingdoms of Amalur much higher on he list. In fact of the games you listed I've played at least a few hours of (All of them except 3D dot Heroes, and Folklore I would put it either first or second with Dragon Age Inquisition in the highest slot it doesn't get. And if the comments about Folklore requiring use of a six axis control scheme at times, something I always hate, are accurate it definitely would be anywhere near my top slot.
Dragon's Dogma is Capcom's true masterpiece. It's like Breath of Fire, King of Dragons, DMC all in a single package in the best party-based action RPG ever. Too bad Skyrim and Dark Souls got a lot more hype, and a generation later The Witcher 3 - none of them come close to combat finesse and big bosses just roaming the landscapes at will...
Kool games some I played. Star Ocean the last hope had me pissed in the start but later on it grew on me & was a really good game though the ending predictable. Tales of Xillia 2 man tht game pissed me off cuz you start off in debt, like my life done hard i must play this game where as soon as you got cash its taken away plus having to buy gear, items etc nah. Kingdom of.... & Dragon Age Inquisition I just couldn't play these games not into their graphics Dragon Dogma I'll get one day as I still have my ps3.
I've played Nier with the remastered edition on PS4, and even with the remaster I found the game super boring, with boring combat, and unrewarding time investment on quests and griding. On the other hand, Tales of Xillia 1 and 2 are my favorite games of all time.
It got the PS5 version which got new content added and a lot of recent PS Exclusives have made the jump to PC with a few outliers including Demon Souls because of the PS5 version it got at launch for the console. Demon Souls coming to PC feels inevitable, plus the Soulsborne genre does really well on PC anyways so it's not like it won't make bank for Sony and like involved.
Most of these games are NOT PS3 must have games, because they already have a better version on a newer console. Would have been a lot better to only include PS3 exclusives.

Dragon Age Inquisition is awful and woke.
I know, the term gets thrown around a lot - but Folklore is truly an underrated gem not many people know of!
It is incredible!
Got it at a flea market for $5. Awesome game. Weird too
And there’s a couple free dlcs for it in the store. Excellent game.

The OST of Folklore is sooo amazing, people go check that out after playing

Unless you like playing on CRTs :) Also depending on the game, sometimes lighting effects are broken on a lot of new ports

I picked this up years on steam and played the original. I absolutely loved every minute of it, it was tragic how it all went down.
It also was overshadowed by Skyrim.
Back in the day, there was a lot of commotion about it because baseball pitcher Kurt Schilling was a big part of it
