    Dear Margaret,
I have watched your video with interest; ostensibly, my field in Mont Blanc scribes is purely for fountain pens, of which I possess thirty six, covering the 1940's thru' to modern day pieces. I found your log incredibly sincere, direct, & honest; clearly, your knowledge for this brand of pen is limited, but that is understandable - & this is reflected in your frank, self effacing description. I would agree with Hwy19 Designs' assessment, & categorise same as an authentic MB. This is based upon your disassembly - MB have a reputation for intricate build assembly, & the fact that (your) pen has an anti-swivel lock mechanism on the clip - i.e it can only fit one way, combined with the fixed spring in the nib holder, & that from the overall length of the pen's shaft, all surfaces mate flush. In terms of the refill itself, I wouldn't be too concerned there - I saw a 'Montegrappa' refill (which coincidentally do fit the Mont Blanc ballpoints & rollerball models).
In terms of the MB outlet in Houston, the sum of $75 is not extortionate for valuation; however, for that surcharge (they) should be able to positively identify the pen's origins - only with earlier models, say from the Fifties or Sixties, might there be a concern in provenance (origin), & therein, sending it off to Germany might be a requisite assurance.
If you have since sold the pen on, then I trust you have made good on your original purchase price - clearly, the seller didn't know what they had !!
Finally, it is clear that the pen has been well used - which is a good sign as an original item; naturally, there will be some burring/scratching to the casement of the pen's body - particularly to the raised areas - pen clip & nib end - these always suffer with use, &, most significantly, human skin secretes oils that will (eventually) dull the resin casing, & in that regard, I would direct you to any number of videos demonstrating how to clean the pen, correctly - stripping it down. Cost of materials for such, are ridiculously inexpensive: cotton buds, lint-free cleaning cloth - a couple of dollars' worth, at most.
If you haven't yet sold the pen, then consider holding onto it (unless you feel it necessary, for whatever reason, to pass it on). Whatever you decide to do, that was a fortunate find, & I wish you the very best,
    Regards,
    Andrew :D

I have a Montblanc La Grande 161 I bought from an AD. It's a little bigger, but it exactly the same inside and out. That is 100 percent real. Great buy!

@Shanly Joa serial numbers can be copied from real products, that‘s what most fakes do! A serial number is a very bad way of telling a product is fake or not.

Nice find! When I was a teenager I worked at OfficeMax, and became very familiar with Mont Blanc. When you started showing it, I knew that it looked real. One thing I never knew though, was that the tip and the clip could be removed!
I have some Mont Blanc pens I need to look into, they aren't the basic ones, and I don't want to pay to have them authenticated.
You really did your research on this one, good job!

If it's a fake it's most probably the best I've ever seen. The good thing about gaining this knowledge on mont blanc pens is you can address all the questions buyers are most likely to be wondering right there in your listing. You know everything a real one should have and according to that you have it. A buyer will know you've done your research on it before hand which is a huge ease when spending that kind of money.

The uneven serial number is troubling. Take a light from a cell phone or other cell phone or bright light and shine it through the barrel. It should shine a red color if it's resin is real. The writing on the barrel should be cross hattched. Your light test looked authentic

For a and, week I bought this pen and was the best choice of my life because, although I heard about this brand, I thought it was too expensive. I bought a lot of quality pens and found someting I did not like at all, but I did not find any mistakes here, but can recomend it to everyone! This is the emperor of the feathers:)

A good way to tell is smell it, celluloid never stops "drying/hardening" and keeps gassing ever so slighly. Montblanc pens are made of celluloid (precious resin) if you open up the pen and smell it and it smells like it is going to explode from one spark you have the genuine article. A fake pen will just be black plastic not difficult to make celluloid.

after seeing this video. I have done a little more digging on the internet. And it also seemed that running the serial number which I have done on the search engines if it pulls up a bunch of different pens then you don't have a real Montblanc. I ran the serial number thru Google search with no results.Which I read is good.

can anyone comment on the serial number being a little uneven? To me, with the lack of Pix (or whatever it says), it makes me leary. I'm not suggesting your pen is a fake ma'am but in my searches to buy one, I need to become an expert in such matters.

It looks a genuine one with all parts you have unscrewed ( the cap clip and the bottom gold pen pint. Most of the faked ones have a glued point here. I have one and the only doubt is it engraved as w. Germany and not used the usual Montblanc fonts. but you don't have nothing to worry. Use an original pen cartridge to get the best benefit from a Montblanc pen.

I bought a very similar but real Classique (UNISEF 2013) a few days ago for £300 from a very reputable dealer. What I will say is that if your pen is a fake, it an extremely impressive fake. Why would someone pay £300 if a "similar" one can be bought for a fraction of the cost and no one is any wiser?

Please, at least pronounce the brand name correctly. MontBlanc is pronounced Mon + Blan. The T and the C are silenced. And it means white mountain. So the white star isn't a white star but a mountain top. The easiest way to spot a fake is by the color of the logo. Fakes are ALWAYS grayish a bit compared to the immaculate original white. Thanks (..your nails dear)
