    If I am going to improve my golf game beyond the 9.5 handicap that carry now, something has to change. In looking at the stats I track, a glaring weakness stands out; I don't hit many fairways and greens in my rounds despite taking a conservative approach to do just that.
    Strategy is so crucial to playing great golf. Not just in how you play each hole, but in your club selection, shot selection, and your commitment to each shot. I have improved in some of those areas greatly over the last year, but what good is a sound strategy if you can't EXECUTE?
    Commitment to each shot is vital. Commitment can be directly tied to confidence. Confidence comes from predictability. If I'm not producing the same basic shot shape and fairly tight grouping, then I really can't predict whats going to happen with a tee shot or an approach. How can I possibly commit to a particular shot if I have no idea if it's going to fly left or right? Hook or stay straight? Be solid or a a bit light?
    Enter Jim Venetos. I recently stumbled across his videos and what he teaches lines up with what I need to get over this hump. His approach to the swing removes arbitrary movements like weight shift and rotation to give you the best possible chance at returning the club right back to the same spot from where it started. This lends itself to solid, consistent contact, with an almost automatic swing path, virtually guaranteeing predictable ball flight and tighter grouping.
    This is week 5 of my 3 month commitment to work with Jim through this system. Each week, I will vlog and share my progress with you, so that you can see an honest review and decide if this may be of help. It's worth noting that Jim makes himself very available to you and works hand in hand with your development through video analysis, site interaction, and email. He will even talk with you on the phone if needed.
    Last week, I worked on full swings and the Downswing Drill. This week I am still working on the drill, and I am pushing harder to reach a skilled level with all of my irons. My one swing thought as always is STILLNESS. This week has been tough in particular because I am moving my family over 2 hours away. Selling, buying, packing, and unpacking. It has been tricky to find time to practice.

    Week 5 - This was a tough week. I am in the process of moving half way across the state, I have been loading trucks and cars and had very little time for practice. I managed to squeeze in a bucket at the driving range to work on my irons. This will probably be my last time here, since I will have to find new courses and new ranges. Thanks for watching! Give me a thumbs up and a comment.

    Thank you for this video. I have been on the fence with trying Jim's membership. I've tried this swing at the range with a lot of success one day and ready to ditch it after another session. The longer clubs are a challenge. I think it is s time for me to decide to go all in or keep being inconsistent. I like your attitude. Don't give up!

    • @GolfTestDummy

      Thanks so much! When I started, this was an experiment. To simply put it to the test and see how the chips fell. I tried to be somewhat impartial but Jim is so incredibly helpful and insightful, it's hard not to buy in to the methodology. The support and help you get is far better than any customer service you'll get anywhere. He doesn't pay me, I owe him nothing, these are my genuine feelings. It's not always easy and you don't get anything handed to you, but if you trust him and the process and follow it without cheating yourself, the road to better golf is waiting.

    It was evident that you started your set up with straight legs and then bent the forward leg in the swing.I always concentrate on starting with a firm bent forward leg and push down on this when I start the swing.This works and maintains the weight on the front side.

      Bob I will give that a try. It has evolved for me over the course of the training. I have no doubt t it will continue to evolve. One thing I know for sure that was a mistake is that I set my feet lined up to the target and turned my shoulders closed. I now know how helpful it is to close my stance as well.

    I want to thank you GTD for your series on JVGA swing assessment.
    Like Kirk Bryan below I tried this swing on the range without anything more than TH-cam video clips from Jim. The result was impressive for me. I was getting consistent strike ( unusual for me) and draw shots ( I fade every thing) even with my Driver ! Accuracy was pretty good as long as I kept my weight forward and kept still and didn't try to knock the socks off the ball. When I didn't, the fade tail off came back as well as a push flight. I use single length irons which I think is easier with this swing. Between GW and 5 iron I only have to get used to one swing. My hybirds are both 3 iron lenght. and took a bit of getting used to with the JV method. Strangely the 4 wood is a weapon with the JV swing and I have never been more confident with the Driver.
    Long story cut short I signed up last week with JVGA and I think it is good value. It is mid- winter here in Southern Australia and the golf course is muddy. I hope to see a significant improvement in my golf this coming golf season.

      I have always kept my palms kind of facing each other. As a unit. So when you pivot, then take your grip, both hands tend to come on to the club strong.

    Really cool you're doing this. As I mentioned before I've just started with his program. I first saw his swing method and went out on my own to my practice facility and just went at it. I was quite surprised how well I was striking my wedge and 9i. Crisp, nice draw. Before I had consulted with Jim and joined his academy I of course pulled out my longer clubs and tried it. I smoked a 3H and even managed to hit a few drives absolutely beautiful. I was still hitting some poor shots and wondered what I was doing wrong. That's when I went to Jim's website and eventually joined. Now I'm working with Jim and he's done a few video analyses with me. I love this method. I admit I have some apprehension about taking it to the course but also some excitement at the same time. Really liking this though and looking forward to working my through the bag properly. So, I'm right there with ya friend. Good luck!

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's awesome! I knew coming in that I didn't want to set my progress back by taking it to the course too early. You need your swing to be almost auto pilot before trying to play the game at a decent level. It takes a lot of discioline and restraint to stay off the course. It's so hard not to go out and play.

    Thanks for the latest video GTD, it looks great. Just as with the down the line drill, I am still struggling with the move down to the 4 iron. My misses tend to be a duck hook as well as a big block out to the right. My golf mentor and fellow academy member was wondering if you could share Jim’s responses to your latest videos?

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Yeah, I assumed the longer the club, the more demanding. I mentioned in my submission video to Jim that I felt like the 4 iron was really toe up. He said his longer clubs are toe up as well, since the shaft flexes down on the swing, which levels the sole. I also mentioned my lower body movement and he said it was a little sloppy for my goal. My goal is scratch, so I have to set my sights on higher standards than someone who wants to be a 6 or 8 handicap. I completely agreed with his assessment. I will get there. I know I am not nearly as still as I ultimately hope to be, but as long as I make progress, it will come.

    • @ZX81user
      @ZX81user 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jim always said you can play the ball anywhere, but for me, it was easier to stay more still when I played it back a bit. Toward the middle of my feet.

  • @michaelparrish8879
    @michaelparrish8879 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    At address do you point the clubface where you want the ball to start or finish.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am still in a bit of an experimental phase really. Normally and for now, I am the face at the finish and my feet the same spot. Then my shoulders close to basically create where the ball will start. That said, Jim sent my latest video analysis and has asked me just before I swing to drop my right foot back a couple of inches. So what I have been doing may very well change. It is different for everyone and like Jim says, the ball flight will be what it is, you adjust your aim accordingly, rather than change your swing.

    How far ahead of the ball should you be?

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jim sayd he "gets as far ahead of the ball as possible". For me, it really depends on the lie, the shot, the flight, and the curvature that I want. The further you get ahead, the more curve and the lower the flight. So ball position is relative. I would say get to where you feel confident and where the resulting flight is what you want.

    Try some single length clubs.

    • @GolfTestDummy
      @GolfTestDummy  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have thought about that often.
      I don't doubt that they would have the potential to help my iron game be simpler. But, it's my understanding that the weight of the clubs has to be manipulated to correct yardage gapping, which would make me have to engage a different "feel" with each iron.
      Also, hybrids, wedges, woods, and driver would still be different lengths, so where it would reduce 13 swings down to less, there would be a significant jump in length of shaft from 7 iron standard iron length to 19 degree hybrid.
      My hypothesis is that the relationship between woods and irons would suffer and the space between them would leave you either as a good iron player or a good woods player, with the rare occasion being someone who had the ability to play both equally well, considering the vast difference between them.
      That said, I would love to try a set, LOL.
