The main reason music stay local and labels are not promoting it, is due to the bigger companies not putting their big money and support behind it. They want to be able to CONTROL it. Plus they want to control the direction of hip hop and what the youth listen to. The majors, along with the government, want hip hop to be watered down and they want the message in hip hop to be feminine and non-educational. So, these other big names in hip hop, they are told to only look for and support certain types of artist. Real authentic artist, they may go out and sign the talent, but only to hold them captive and not let them spread their wings in the right way. Especially if they have a following already and a positive message. If it's positive, educational, gangsta and militant at the same time, the powers that be within the industry definitely don't want that.
