First, THANK YOU for an in depth review in this video as well as the other video you put out a year ago for the 4x36" 5600. My question is this, Now that you have used both, is one better than the other when speaking of shooting headshots 4" wide vs the 8" wide? I'm not concerned with the bi-color as I would mostly shoot 5600. Just wonder if it's a big difference 4" vs 8". I just ordered the 4"x36" but didn't realize they have a 8" wide version. B&H has a nice kit of 4 with stands, and bags in the 4"x36" version. Essentially you get much more bang for the buck since the 8" version doesn't come in a kit.
Hi Tim and thanks for the kind feedback. As I mention in the video, even if you have both types, you can use the 8” wide for key light and the 4” wide for backlight AND OR vice versa. I achieve almost the same results with either one and I DO mix the order myself when using both types. The only exception with the 8” wide (SSL836B) would be if you place it extremely close to the subject, like, inches distance. Because of the extra width, it will provide a larger light source. But the SSL836B can’t light a tall background the way the SSL50 or 50B can. If you want your SSL-50 series to act as a larger light, simply place a diffuser in front. The light will produce the same effect as a strip softbox without a grid.
@@ArtVideoProductions Thank you. Most of my headshots were done with a 3 light (Triangular) set up and subject was about approx 10-20" from the lights. 2 of the lights were LED continous lights on a 3'x 1' soft box. the 3rd light was an led panel and down low 1' x 2'. So I am used to the lights being 12 inches wide and not 4 inches wide like the Genaray's. Now, I will say I did fire up one of the 4'x36' lights and it seemed to be impressive and spread just as wide.
@@timprice6119 I can guarantee you’ll love this light when it arrives. It can do a lot of “new” things your other lights can’t do. And that bar door really works.
I’ve been waiting for your review on this. I was going to get the 5600k one when I saw this come out. I have three of the thirty six 5600k models and I love them although one of them had a hinge break but they were super quick on getting me a replacement
@@curtisclement you might be looking at the wrong item there. There’s no way these 1/4 threads / couplers cost $21. Go to Lowe’s, they are much easier to find. They are located at the hardware, at those specialty drawers.

Genaray is a BH brand. Been a customer there since 1995. When something is wrong, they act fast. Can’t go wrong with BH.
What did you think of my ballast mounting design?
@@ArtVideoProductions I plan on using it!
@@ArtVideoProductions OMG I looked at pricing of the Lowe’s items you had and I checked Home Depot and they were $21!
