If the game would actually perform better with "worse" graphics but that's not the case. Trackmania is a pretty CPU intensive game. Graphics are the least to worry about there.

It's always been a Stadium gimmick that everything is man-made and artificial. Every decoration in Trackmania Nations (original Stadium environment) is actually an inflatable balloon. IDK too much about TM2 Stadium, but I think most of the stuff is similar there. Other environments have deviated from it, but Stadium is meant to be, well... a stadium with an artificial track in it. Also, the campaign tracks are empty and visually uninteresting, but the good community-made maps usually pay a lot of attention to the scenery, so the maps that will come up will probably look a lot more appealing.
I agree! Search for "Trackmania 2020 Alive", that video is showcasing a very beautiful map using the new blockstyle. That's what I love at trackbuilding in this game, its all about who does it and how much effort you put into it. The campaign maps were always basic and supposed to be basic, just to not overwhelm new players.
Yo, the missing steam thing is because of ubisoft regulations and not because of the developers decisions. There were rumours the devs even tried to get it on steam :/ But that does make the game any more worse tho and I dont see any reason rn why it should. Also, to the subscription thing. Did you think about it? Imo it clearly is totally reasonable if you do (just putting "Subscription model bad" in here makes me a little sad to read) - I could tell you the first aspect that comes into my mind: Consistent costs. The devs really love their community and games, they even keep online services online for games that are over 15 years old (and that stacks up over different games) and this is just - one - reason why they need consistent money. Obviously they could have done a move like EA or something to put out a new game every 1-2 years to get that consistent income but what they do is they actually care about a single game and get content updates and features over time with a subscription model to it (which I prefer way more than microtransactions).
Trophies are the ranking system, every "tier" of trophy is worth 10x the last trophy. There are 3 bronze trophies, 3 silver ones and 3 gold ones (The less stripes the better). Trophy 9 (the clean gold one) is only awarded for winnin major tournaments like ZrT Cup and Trackmania Grand League. You can earn them every time you play and can earn multiple of one trophy at once (for example second place in ZrT cup could get something like 7 Trophy 8s)
I remember playing a demo version of the first TrackMania, the one in the desert. Loved the hell out of that game, got TM United as a birthday gift from a friend a million years ago and played that game to death too. Extremely fun.
That's what trackmania is about. Easy to learn, hard to master. I think ice brings a new form of skill into this and requires this special skillset to Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.
I'd argue that there's the (kind of) pay to win aspect in both these games (I mean you can basically buy every car instantly), which for some people is reason enough to cash out big dollars.

(genuine question, interested) This game combines a spin like turbo had (on the original) in a new direction while keeping all the customization options we had (horns and custom names will most likely come in the future - you can get custom names already on dedicated servers tho. I mean stuff like editor and play options tho) In the editor for example you can do items (import 3D Objects!) and all stuff that will get us really crazy stuff. Crazy just like the reactor boost I guess :D

I think the game has a lot of potential but i think the f2p model and as well as navigation in menus is quite confusing. It's not very intuitive and reminds me of Maniaplanet (shutters). I was legit just clicking around the menus not sure what i was allowed to play on the free version and what i wasn't, nor was it really clear what each menu and submenu exactly was. I think the new mechanics are interesting, i do think it's time for some real innovations in the Trackmania series but idk... i just don't vibe with the jets bro. Don't get me wrong tho i am very excited to see where the game goes, i just think it's a noticeable step down from Turbo ATM (i guess it's expected because it's not a full release like 2 and United Forever?)

I bought Club even tho Standard would’ve been enough. But I‘ve been supporting the series since United Forever. I like the game, it gives the series a good modern touch and keep it fresh
The problem in subscription is that while the game is alive, it's fine. Once the game shuts down for whatever reason, then what? If you played for years, that's hundreds if not thousands of dollars gone in playing a game that you can never play again. I didn't read their terms of use but i'm pretty sure it says in there that they can shut down the game servers whenever they want to.

You should check out Race Canyon on Android, it's a straight copy of NFS Carbon, the developer even reused some cutscenes. You could give it a try if you want

10 bucks is just standard access tho. If you want the full game it's 30 bucks per year. Personally, Ubisoft taking over Trackmania was the biggest letdown. They turned Nations into this weird Freezone crap, the price for United went up from 5 bucks to 25 again, while no changes were made. Trackmania 2 was pretty bad to be honest. The only thing I enjoyed a little was Turbo, only like driving for medals tho. I'm having mixed feelings about this one, to be fair I was only able to gold medal the first 25 tracks tho because that's all you get in the free version.

They said they didn't touch the physics... but I swear the car handle is waaaaaaaaaaaay different from what it used to be, it's like it's way more sluggish now. Oooooooooor I just haven't played the game in so long I don't really remember how it felt anymore. Also, the ice drifts are nothing short of aids and they're next to impossible to master. Tracks with ice paths (not the sledge type of paths) will have a skill ceilling bigger than the fucking moon.

Well, I don't think sub model is good one. Like the only things devs can give to community are new environments, gamemodes and tools for creation, globally - transfering game in a new engine and freshening some visual stuff. Everything else is usually made by community. Tracks. Skins. Models. So I'm not sure they are took it right way. While I am still sceptical about this idea, I think it's good one and I can see its benefits... But I don't think it is those benefits that TM is needed.

Minecraft constantly updates and you only pay for it once.
Well, I don't think sub model is good one.
Like the only things devs can give to community are new environments, gamemodes and tools for creation, globally - transfering game in a new engine and freshening some visual stuff.
Everything else is usually made by community. Tracks. Skins. Models. So I'm not sure they are took it right way. While I am still sceptical about this idea, I think it's good one and I can see its benefits... But I don't think it is those benefits that TM is needed.

it is not good.Just buy tm2 and you can play on any server and chat with people.In this new 2020 version you need to pay monthly(subscribe) or pay for a year(year subscribe) so that you could choose a server to play on.The basic ones are not as god as you think,but you cant choose a good one unless you subscribe to it.Im still having fun in tm2 so stay with that,even through i waited for this one one,but this pay wall version is not for me.
