Seascape Photography with the Panasonic G9: Pambula Beach Sunrise

- I spent a long weekend on the south coast of New South Wales and the first morning was spent at Pambula Beach. A sea fog rolled in just before sunrise making for some interesting shooting.
First time shooting with the Panasonic-Leica 8-18mm and I love it: smooth to use, sharp as a tack :-)

Thank you Ian! This answers all my questions about the G9. These are my favorite landscapes. I like evenings. I've been to a few sunrises, but not habitually. The only thing predictable is I am watching a once in a lifetime beautiful experience for each evening's landscape with all their variables proving Mother Nature is the best artist! Walking on the beach one evening I experienced a fishing boat rocking and struggling to return to an inlet at last light with heavy surf crashing against its rising and dipping bow and a glowing full moon beginning and continuing its rise from behind casting broken reflections on the tumultuous surf and with the intermittent sounding of a fog horn combined with the sounds of waves crashing against the jetty and shore and the fizzling water running up the shore and returning. I don't think "they" make a camera that would have caught all of that at once. Absolutely stunning haunting romanticism! I may be watching planetary meteorologic conditions, tides, moon phase charts, and weather reports the rest of my life trying to capture that moment, yet never to be seen, again. It was AWESOME! Bringing me to a question please. Which aperture(s) and how are you using ISO (I am staring to experiment with ISO and not many people know too much about its value) do you use to capture the moment in low sunlights without losing focus/clarity of the waves and surf conditions on the horizon while capturing whats happening right in front of you at the same time? Or can you share your theory on how to apply them? I can get ocean landscapes in focus from a distance but it has to be zoomed from at least 80-100 yards away from the foreground subject with my P530 on the highest aperture setting I can get out of it. For video I learned to use single focus, as continuous focus cannot keep up and I end up with choppy video. thx.

Great vid, great location Ian. Favourite image was the contrail looking cloud.
You should go try the St Kilda Pier and Breakwater at sunset - great place for blue hour long exposures with the city in the background. There's a few good spots where you can really get the rule of thirds and leading lines working.

EVERY TIME I watch or hear anything related to Australia, I always wonder why crime in Australia isnt SKY HIGH. I mean, scientists tell us that behaviour is predetermined based upon our genetic makeup, yet if Australia was originally a colony for criminals, why are their descendants rampant criminals? Always makes me wonder if Scientists actually lie to feed their own agendas.
