      @@WhyNotRV That's pretty good, and a huge improvement over the 33 deg F that the the Gree can handle. I'm leaning towards the Turbro primarily for this lower outdoor temperature rating, I just really wish it was quieter.

      Yeah, the inverter compressor can definitely get better heating in lower temperatures. Although the gray unit is also way better than any standard unit on the market. They’re usually only rated to maybe 40°.

    The Gree advertises a noise level as low as 43dB and Turbro advertises 45db. Can you do some sound testing with a db meter in a future video? They sounded like they were a lot more than 2db different in this video. For additional context, RecPro lists 55.4 db on low and 59.7db on high.

    Solid review! I've been rocking a pair of TOSOT (gree/eco cool etc) with RV soft starts. And run them with a 3000 watt all in one EG4 inverter, and like you mention the sound of the gree units is fantastic; can watch tv and it barely makes you turn the volume up. Would be curious if you ran just the new rear unit for a 24 hour period... maybe have just the fan on the gree unit on fan to keep the air circulating; just to see the 24 hour energy usage. Interested to see where the inverter ones go in the next year or so, but the gree is a solid unit with a few kinks on maintaining a steady temp and such. I've found if you run it in dump mode it actually maintains a more constant temp, where using the louver setup causes it to need to cycle a few times to get to a temp set point.

    • @WhyNotRV
      @WhyNotRV  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I appreciate it. The Gree is an outstanding unit. The problem with running a test like you suggest is the BTUs is not rated for the size RV so it will just run constantly and never coo the RV down to temp. Maybe if I get some cool enough weather that it coul handle it appropriately but you see the issue here right?

    What are the numbers on the Turbro while in heat mode?

  • @ryan52403
    @ryan52403 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I love the heat pump on the Turbro vs the Gree for both energy efficiency, start up amps (should be able to start off a standard 15a outlet without soft start) and it has lower outdoor operating temperatures. However the noise sounded quite loud. Were you running the fan at full speed? How loud is it at the lowest fan speed? Curious how much reducing air velocity would help. Can you compare the different fan speeds in a video? Do you think there would be any way to improve the noise level? Perhaps with some strategically placed hushmat? Or are there any leakage gaps that could be taped with aluminum duct tape to reduce air leakage through small cracks? Can you do a comparison of the Gree and Turbro air distribution plenum and give your thoughts on what makes the Gree so much quieter?

    • @WhyNotRV
      @WhyNotRV  หลายเดือนก่อน

      To start off, the gree unit is also a heat pump. I did testing with it last winter. I think they did an outstanding job in terms of any air leakage so that’s not an issue. The noise level I had the fan at the auto so I couldn’t tell you if that was on low, medium or high but either way, it’s definitely louder than the gray unit but again much more quiet than a standard RV air conditioner. You could definitely do some custom modifying inside with some Styrofoam or foam noise absorbent material. The degree unit just did a better design with how the air comes down from the unit and then comes out the louver vents efficiently and through a fully insulated and padded Plenum inside the ceiling unit. This unit just has a thin layer of foam type material across the entire interior unit to prevent condensation and what not but it did not do much for noise in my opinion. This upcoming week I will be showing the full install video so you will see what those components look like. I will throw in that video some decibel reading test of the noise level.

    • @ryan52403
      @ryan52403 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @WhyNotRV So the Gree is a heat pump, just not an inverter heat pump, correct? Which is why you still need a soft start to keep the amp draw down.

    • @WhyNotRV
      @WhyNotRV  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct, the gree unit is not an inverter compressor so still needs a soft start

      @@WhyNotRV Thank you! Looking at the installation manual for both and it's disappointing that Turbro didn't put a little more effort into the design of the air plenum. The Gree/Eco-Cool plenum isn't anything fancy or more expensive, just better thought out.

      Max watts I have seen out of it has been 700w. I’m sure in mid summer it’ll be a bit more. I believe you could duct it yourself with some foam and innovation but I don’t know if they’re making a separate ducted unit.

      @@WhyNotRV not with the Jayco system. There is no hole through the ceiling. The supply and return are both ducted. There is no ceiling assembly. It's top down mounted. Meaning it's mounted to the roof, not through bolted to a ceiling assembly like traditional units. So even if they did offer a duct model, it would need to have top down mounting ability. I don't see that happening. To be honest, I don't see a traditional ducted model happening anytime soon.

    • @WhyNotRV
      @WhyNotRV  หลายเดือนก่อน

      no, I would agree, I dont see that style unit coming out for a long time. If you wanted it for energy efficiency you would need to cut the hole and switch to the traditional RV mount. That goes same for the Gree unit. They make a ducted version, but not a top down version, that is still its own thing.

      Also - Any idea if the EER rating on the Turbro site is a mistake? They list it as 4.1. The Tosot is 8.5 and the Chillcube is 10. 4.1 seems weirdly low given the watt draw you were measuring.

      Yes! I saw the rating as well and it obviously does not make any sense. Just considering the fact that the Tosot is the same thing as the gree unit just sold under a different brand and I’ve been actively testing the gree unit for over a year, I know that the rating of the Turbro unit Must have been a misprint or something.

      @@WhyNotRV Awesome. It threw me a little. We had a minisplit in our Class C and are moving to a diesel pusher. The split is amazing, but the install was a bear and the install in the new rig would just be a royal pain. I showed that in this video, it by itself the fan only pulls 40 to 60 W generally and at full blast it ramped up to I think about 700 W. That was when it was about 88° outside. I’m sure in instead of heat summer it will be closer to 800 900. Maybe even 1000 W but I won’t know until next summer. I will be doing some testing on this in winter for heat pump to show the energy efficiency

    • @WhyNotRV
      @WhyNotRV  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s a hard test to do. It’s not a large enough unit to cool the entire airstream by itself in a warm climate so it’ll just run all night long probably at Max trying to cool the entire RV. As I showed in one of the tests, over 24 hours, the one green unit by itself had to run more and use more energy and didn’t keep the RV is cool as it was with both units running. With the two units running together I used less energy than just one by itself.

      I’m an rv tech and van builder. I do a lot of dog grooming vans where one of the complaints is excess humidity in the van, moreso than an rv. Back in the day, I usedsome Gree acs when they first came out…the water dripping often took out their control/display which was mounted ( like the Turbro) in the center of the ceiling assembly. I’m worried about that but I’d love to try one. I currently use the Dometic Penguin but they pull a lot of current and I’m running all battery power.

    • @WhyNotRV
      @WhyNotRV  หลายเดือนก่อน

      This turbro unit also has a dehumidification feature as well. Again, being an inverter it can slow down the flow of refrigerant and absorb more moisture from the air. If it’s mounted correctly and level the drain pan system should be putting all water onto the roof of the rv or van and running off like rain.

    • @agrota21
      @agrota21 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ Dometics drip inside because it seems they don’t more enough air across the evaporator. Dog hair getting past the filter doesn’t help either. Again though, there’s a lot more moisture in the air because of blow dry a wet dog than might be typical in an rv, although I was a tech at LV Airstream and we saw our share of mold in Airstreams.
