    I bought this....this thing is awesome...yes it's simply built and I would not call it a HEAVY DUTY piece of equipment - but it does not have to be. Biggest complaint about it I have seen is that the weights swing back and forth when using it....that is TRUE.
    Other vids have shown that if you attach a chain or something to the bottom of the weight holding strap - the swinging goes away. I have chains and can verify that swinging is reduced by 95%. Great cheap product.
    Today did pullups with bands with mutliple grips(wide/narrow/supinated) super set with lat pulls using this pulley superset with landmine 1 arm rows using Meadow Row attachment - WHAT A PUMP!

    If you have a friend who sails and especially sail racing, have them look at this video and they will help you out. There is hitech ball bearing blocks who opens up (so you can take the line/rope out) and hitech ropes and lines that takes more load than that wire but is easy to cut and adjust and smooth as hell. Greetings from a swedish sailor!

    Been meaning to make a video on the pulley for like 3 months now. Procrastination at its finest! Good pick up, get a variety of handles/attachments and you'll be good to go. Also grease it up a little so it doesn't make any noise

    I've had mine for about 8 months and I'm pretty happy with it. Not the best fit and finish, but it's heavy duty and gets the job done. I'll be getting their low cable add on shortly so I can do cable rows.

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +joerapo Nice, let me know how you like them.

    • @joerapo
      @joerapo 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Brandon Campbell I've used it twice for some low cable rows. Just like the lat pulley the low pulley may not have the best fit and finish. It works well for what it's intended to do. The strap that attaches to the rack is shorter than the lat pulley version so it does place me in a perfect spot for low rows.
      Set up is a little bit of a pain since you have to improvise a place to put your feet. I use my Rogue Monster bench and place a pair of 100lb plates on top and it doesn't move even on my heaviest set. For what it is I;m happy with it. Ideally a high/low setup with a 300lb. pin stack would be ideal, but I lack the space and adding dumbbells is higher on my list of gym priorities.

  • @jpp500
    @jpp500 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    If your elbows are sore I recommend using strong resistance bands for tricep extensions. Just hook the band in the rack and do a total of 100-200 reps. Gets the blood flowing and will build great tricep strength because of the increasing resistance.

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +jpp500 I've done that in the past, but kind of defeats the purpose as higher intensity/lower reps than 100-200 would be more ideal for progression IMO

  • @LiftingDad
    @LiftingDad 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Get an I bolt and heavy duty carbiner at Home Depot and some washers. You will be bolt the i bolt through the existing holes in the rack you have. Then you can hook the carbiner to the I bolt and slip the pulley on and off. There are also hook bolts which you could use and skip the carbiner though the hook bolt may flex open due to the tension.

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lifting Dad Yeah I think I might just pick up the Rogue attachment for it.

    Mount an eye bolt (I use a TRX Mount) to your ceiling and attach with a carabiner. Will add height so you won't have to back up/"get on your knees". Also makes set up quicker. My initial impressions were the same. However it has held up. I have used it at least once a week with weights up to (3) 45lb plates.

    • @BasementBrandon

      +Brandon Campbell For a little more than $30, you can definitely build something nicer (get the pulleys online from a place that specializes in them). You'll need to use a few more pulleys and some wood. It won't "look" professional but it will work way better. Main think it will do for you is keep the weights from swinging around, and allow you to pull the cable perpendicular to the ground for tricep push down and parallel to the ground for rowing. I was going to get your system too, but saw some real cool ideas on YT. Good luck!

    I've had mine for a year or two, no issues yet. Seems to hold up well.

    I wouldn't be worried about the quality. I've had mine for a while now and beat the shit out of it and it holds up perfectly fine. One annoying this is the plates tend to sway and move around a lot causing you to have to settle the weights mid set.

    I was interested in this or at least a diy version, but Always felt the weight would begin to sway as you preform the movement. I think some guys run another cable/rope to help in stabilizing but then it becomes tedious with the setup. I lucked out and was able to pickup a plate loaded lat pulldown for $80 on CL. Hope you get good use out of it. Quick question, why do you use the wedge more than the jack??

    • @BasementBrandon

    Brandon - so you made this video awhile ago. Do you still use the Spud Econo Tricep Lat Pulley? I am thinking about getting it because it does seem like an inexpensive way to add lat pulls and triceps to a Power rack...although for just triceps I have found that using real high quality resistance bands looped over the pull up bar and using them for pushdowns, etc can give a phenomenal pump. Thanks

    Hey Brandon. Awesome video.
    I own a training facility in SE Tennessee and have one of these on every rack in the gym.
    Like you, I was underwhelmed when I made the initial purchase and set it up for the first time.
    However, after using it for a while I've come to appreciate it for what it is; A very good alternative to a very expensive cable crossover (which we have...and it literally breaks at least 3X/month).
    I also have the additional set up on each rack which allows the cable to run down and attach near the bottom of the rack for creating a seated cable row.
    Definitely requires some ingenuity when doing pressdowns (I do them kneeling on a rogue ballistic block) but it's worth the money IMO.
    It has held up REALLY well, also. Probably used by 100+ people a week, from general pop to heavyweight PLers and haven't had any issues.
    Just my two cents.
    Adam

      Adam, your post was 4 years ago. Are they still holding up? I also read Spud improved on the cables and they are now nylon coated when before they weren't and fraying would happen quickly. I am looking into this as I desperately need something to do my lat and tricep pull downs for home use due to COVID-19 shutting down the gyms I go to. Thank you.

      +Brandon Campbell Maybe try asking for a second pulley and then just make the track longer. If you want a cheap but ugly solution you can always buy a 2x4 drill two holes at half the distance you want to shorten it by run the wire in a loop through the holes. This would look ghetto as hell tho but would get the job done.

  • @hamstergraphics
    @hamstergraphics 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Happy with mine, though the handles tend to dig in to my hands, especially when doing overhead tricep cable extensions... I'm thinking I'll get a normal tricep rope attachment. Cable rows work out well, sitting on the floor, feet planted to base of rack, using a close grip cable row attachment.
    Mines attached to a regular Rogue pull up cross bar, so can easily be shifted over to the edge of the rack and out of the way... kind of...

    Their belts are alright... I liked my velcro Spud Inc belt. But after about a year, well guess more like year and a 1/2 or so use the velcro started slipping mid pulls and eventually mid squat. That is definitely not a good feeling. I got the one with the ratchet strap and its pretty decent, definitely isnt going to slip but theres not much rigidity in the middle of the belt where it ratchets so it'll slide around a little on your stomach depending.

    I've had this a while and use it pretty often (twice a week). I guess it feels cheap because well... It is cheap. The alternative for me would be a pulldown machine costing thousands which I don't have room for anyway. For me it's the best compromise. I've had 120kgs for pulldowns on it and it's stood up fine so far.

    • @kennytaylor7721
      @kennytaylor7721 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used the same specs as far as the pulley and cable goes but I had to bolt my pulley instead of having that wrap around strap. Also, I had to use my own tricep attachments like the rope and v handle, etc. For the part that holds the plates, at first I just used a chain like you would for weighted dips, but now I use something very similar to what the spud inc one comes with that I got from another piece so in reality if I were to add it all up I probably have around $60-75 in it. Ive used the spud inc one and mine feels the same but with the time it took me to work out the kinks I probably could've just bought the one you have and been fine. lol

    Hey, dude. Good video. I agree with you on the lack of impression this product made on me but like you, I also needed some kind of lat/tri pulley system and was attracted by the DIY simplicity of this. I bought two Rogue loading pins and researched a bit more into this type of setup's hardware. I just ordered all the necessary parts to build my own from e - rigging dot com (minus the spaces) and made sure each item was of high durable quality. I actually bought two pulleys and enough cable, carabiners and wire clips to get two of these up side by side and start doing cable crossovers at home. I might have paid a bit more than what two of these Spuds would have cost me but I'm confident in the durability and quality of all the parts purchased.
    Parts list:
    2 x 1/4" Cable x 2-1/2" Diameter Swivel Eye Block
    10 x 7/16" Stainless Steel Spring Snap Link (as you mentioned, for a convenient quick release of pulley and to attach loading pins and handles to cable)
    1/4" X 200', 7x19, Vinyl Coated Galvanized Cable Reel (probably easier and cheaper to go to local hardware store and buy your particular lengths of cable there but i decided to get a reel)
    8 x 1/4" Drop Forged Wire Rope Clip

    obviously you are sponsored by Rogue because it'd be fair dinkum unbelievable that you'd spend a fortune on Rogue toys but criticise a simple product from Spud that does exactly what it promises to do because it's not pretty enough and is made from "heavy duty canvas straps and some metal wire cable". The Spud product is 25% of the cost of the average cable pulldown attachment. A basic understanding of the physics around the strength and weight-bearing abilities of cables and pulleys might help you appreciate Spud-style products, which are an obvious threat to the over-built and over-priced (but nicely powder-coated and neatly labelled) Rogue stuff
