    it feels heavier, because the pulley's wheel is pulled down by gravity of cable...so it's not a smooth roll that you would usually find by more professional systems that have this issue resolved, however u can't argue by the fact that this system is easy to set up, economical and works pretty ok

    Dude, you can seriously make that super-cheap at Home Depot! No joke! It's basically just a pulley, cable, and clips. Those canvas straps are also an easy find.

    135 feels more like 250 because in your commercial gym pulley machine 135 lbs is actually 75 or less because of the 1:2 weight ratio. Here you are using 1:1 (no moving pulley) so 135 is actually 135.

    Nice gym setup. Really like the flooring. As for the Spud Pulley, the price isn't bad, but you can make the same thing using chains for a fraction of the cost.

  • @rdot980
    @rdot980 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Built my own for less using parts off Amazon. I use 2 pulleys which allows me to set the weight back a bit more and my cable is coated. I saw reviews that said the the cable provided by Spud Inc. was fraying, so I went with vinyl-coated cable. I use plumbing pipe and floor flanges for the loading pin and also the lat pull down bar (had that on hand from a pull up bar I made with it that I no longer need). I couldn't stomach spending $99 on un-coated cable, a pulley and webbing. The parts are not expensive at all and if you can tie knots, you don't need to stitch anything.

    I just bought one recently. the cable is too long for most home gym power racks. but i still find ways to make it work. it should be 12 inches shorter. the bad part is, my pulley doesn't have a cotter-pin so i cant take the pulley apart to install a shorter cable. for the price though one cant complain.

  • @Fitforacting
    @Fitforacting 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you seen the Archon pulley? They connect 2 of them to one weight stack to do cable crossovers. I wonder if you can do that with these ones?

    Hey man, really shadowing your set up, one issue I have, is that I'm 6'3, with the rack you have, did you set the cage lower? I mean, I think I will have to do it if want to do pull ups in my rack since my ceiling is not that high, is it possible?

    I see you have a landmine as well. Sorry if I missed it in use in another video. I have the landmine and rogue straight T bar add on. what do you do when using landmine, do you just grab bar or use some sort of handle? How does this pulldown feel compared to landmine use for back workout? Hope I make sense.

  • @hawkboyutube
    @hawkboyutube 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Get yourself a bar that's the width of your rack, attach it at the level that your landmine is at, add a similar pulley, (any decent hardware store) add a length of cable with a cleviced loop on each end and you'd have a low pulley system as well. If you put it together yourself less than $50, if Rogue sold it $300. Just sayin'

  • @AGC828

    Looks like a worthwhile addition to a home gym. Makes sense because of what you can do with it and it's CHEAP. The idea behind a home gym IMHO. Though, one aaviate..need to make sure the weights don't swing and hit the rack at any point. And you need to control how it hits the ground. Or the platform. Could end up damaging the wood area over time.
    VS a lat pull-down machine? Don't think you can compare the two. You get what you pay for. If this device was better gyms would be using them. And not buying lat pull-down machines. :)
    The whole point of a "home gym" IMHO is to get a home workout because you couldn't afford a 3-year gym membership. Or didn't want to be locked in to a 3-yr or 5-yr membership. Though, many gyms now are good about this. Offering no contract. Pay by the month offers.
    "I think that Leo next door is working out again" THUD! THUD!!!! :))

    @marcelhernandez186 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the review. Looking for an economical solution for lat pulldown/cable crossover. Just out of curiosity - how would you attach two for cable crossover (chest flyes, etc.) functionality?

    • @rnleopando
      @rnleopando  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I could use the weight storage pins, but that would be cumbersome. Or rack a bar horizontally and use those. The best thing IMHO is to get/use safety spotter arms outside the rack

    • @marcelhernandez186
      @marcelhernandez186 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leo Pando
      Right...I'm just trying to figure how you would overcome the issue of getting the cables on the front side of the rack when you actually do the flyes. For instance, shoulder/back flyes shouldn't be an issue as you could stand within the rack (though the cable seems a bit long), but actually doing chest flyes seems like the angle of the cable would be difficult to overcome. Just tryin to toss some ideas around, as this option is WAY cheaper than racks with actual lat options. I guess if you put them, say, on the front/side portions of the monkey pull-up bar, you would have a decent angle plus room for the weight plates. I need to look into maybe wall mounting a single-pulley system that's adjustable. Thoughts?

    • @marcelhernandez186
      @marcelhernandez186 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leo Pando
      I think I get it...so basically the storage pins, on the outside, with some sort of spacer, to keep the connector on the pulley from slipping inward. Hmmm. A bunch of weight plates...ha.
