Loved watching this when I was a kid, and a recap late in the evening on BBC, with that typical opening tune. Nostalgic and warm memories of that time and the super heroes of darts! Jocky and Eric you are truly missed 🏴🇬🇧❤️
I remember this final and watching it again you had the best two characters ever to grace the game and this final in my opinion was up there with the best of them, a absolute classic
Met Jocky by chance 3 x times and final time was in a bar in 1986 in Forfar in Scotland and just both us alone in the Lounge and throwing away on the oche . I recall asking him how he got along with Eric Bristow in which he replied he got along well with Eric and that it was just alike a Scotland v England thing when both played and tried on oche to win BUT away from the oche best of friends and had fun and banter together . I can say more which Jocky said to me and vice versa was fun and i so liked see Jockys grin as wide as the clyde 😊 Eric was at Jockys funeral in Kirkcaldy in Fife and later died himself Eric Best two guys to have graced the stage in darts in my opinion Rip to both .
The atmosphere will never be replicated. The production plays it's part too. Just a great spectacle with 2 great players full of character trying to win in the best spirit of competition.
I absolutely loved wee Jocky, a true legend and what a character. I watched this as a 12yr old, never forget that night :-D Jocky must have been averaging over 120 in the first few sets, what a player he was :-D
Well in the background when qualifying Ive heard him swearing at young kids blaming them for putting him off. He was a sore loser. Great player though, but wouldn’t live with today’s standards. GOAT phil Taylor mentored by Eric. I met eric twice. Wilson never liked giving autographs
@@Yorkshirescouser8< Rubbish talk . Jealous Jocky went into English soil and win v the best we all know how much it hurts inside English peoples thoughts a Scot going to |England and taking on the best u have to offer and winning v them all and Jocky did such more than once . Inc v John Lowe in 1982s final .
Jockey was a well known prick and sore loser at times. That doesn't take anything away from the wins he had. Both can be true ya know. You can be a prick and still be a winner.
How is it boring now compared to this? I can't see how watching guys miss doubles over and over and score less overall is supposed to be some high standard. For their time, yes, it was a good standard. The game has just came forward for the better and now the actual standard has climbed very high. It's much more exciting when now you can literally have anyone in the field win a tournament almost. It's someone different every week. Versus times like these where it was the same little group of people being there.
Phenomenal finisher Jocky was and his technique most of the time was fairly orthodox, no lunging.. When the pressure was on, he definitely lunged at the board, but still managed to hit the mark.. Alex Higgins moved loads on a shot, but at the last moment it all fell into line, the movement invariably came after the shot.. Most of the time, I see Jocky flowing, not twitching, just fluid darts.. He was a lot more natural and fluid than most give him credit for...
I still cant believe on the World Championship winning dart Wee Jocky went for the wrong double. He was in too much of a hurry to win it. Pair of legends.
Two of the greats who had alot of respect for each other.. I played alot of darts in my youth n eric was a kind of idol of mine. He was brilliant. God rest both these giants of the game.
I watched this with all the lads made a day of it.. and it seems like yesterday saw Jocky few years later in exhibition. Two great players not with us no longer .. the greats..
Announcement about anyone tuning in too watch scheduled programme " travellers in time" will have too watch it at a later date ..and here we are watching this these two dart legends on Christmas eve 2023 ...rest in peace jocky and Eric..
Speaking personally I only had the chance to meet him and watch him once. It was in a local club in Kennoway and he was a gent. I think he inspired a lot of people because his action was far from perfect but it worked.
Great darts match and the respect between them shows, they both wanted to win and were best of friends, met them both never played jockey would of loved to played Eric in Birmingham best of 5 somehow I managed to win the first 2 lol, never got a lookin after that, great times and the most friendly guys I’ve met
My favourite final all time. Brilliant atmosphere and two absolute legends. Great darts from both men. Why are idiots booing Bristow? Loved Jocky winning this final.
This was a brilliant final had every think jockey Wilson said no matter what he was going to win this Eric was brilliant to come back like he did remember he was suffering with dart arthritis so mentally strong they both could have had a few more titles but there was a lot of great players around then Phil Taylor came along brilliant darts players great memories 😂😀😇👍
Phil already won the 1988 Canadian open and was well know by this point. Eric met phil in 1987 when he had dartitis and phil lived a 1 mile away from Eric's old pub and Eric wanted to practice with phil and sponsored him 10,000 to get him going. So no shocks here.
His hair was great. I styled mine the same because I had same style throw with pinky out. My nickname was eric so I styled my hair. I was a county player too
Remember watching this live as an 18/19yr old and even then i said i wonder if Bristow paid Jockey during the interval to drop some sets, he should have blasted that twat 6-0 here. Let's face it, if Bristow had lost 6-0 like he should have he'd have never shown his face for some while.
When they banned alcohol on stage in 1988 was not good for eric. If eric could have been glugging his lagers like he used to do. He would have won this final. Happy for jocky though. He was darts alex higgins

Bristow v Wilson, with Sid Waddell's commentary. Darts at its purest. 🎯 ❤
Sid the best , but he makes a blunder at the end of the game. Listen carefully

The doubles & trebles look tiny compared to today's toy boards.
I don't think there's any difference in the actual size. We just don't have staples and the bigger wires around them today.
