I fitted a new heater matrix on my Viva HC a couple of months ago. So if you have any questions just ask. Thanks to a post on the old viva owners club forum it turns out a heater matrix from a Land Rover Freelander 1 (1997-2000) part number: JEF100150 is an almost perfect fit which can be bought brand new from eBay for £35. It just needed a bit of thin foam around the edges to stop it rattling and the pipes swapping for a bit of flexible hose. It was a bit of a job and I ended up taking off the whole front of the dashboard, steering wheel, glove box and shelf things to get easier access to everything. The heater box lifts out from the top but not until you disconnect the demist vent tubes from the bottom of it under the dash and the cable that drives the flap from the hot cold leaver. I would say you are best filling her back up and testing your matrix first before going to the trouble as there's a small chance yours is ok. Just make sure you test it hot as mine must've had a small leak as I never had any puddles just the windscreen would always steam up unless the windows were down. There's a trick to filling up the coolent so the matrix doesn't just stay full of air which it does if you just fill from the rad cap. Take off the pipe that goes to the back of the engine block from the heater diverter valve (copper tap thingy attached to the outside of the fan cowl cover) and keep it help up in the air straight up from the engine. Then attach a bit of spare hose to the diverter valve to a funnel high up and very slowly fill the system from there. As you will be filling from the highest point it should make sure the matrix is full of water. Good luck dude and like I say, ask away if you need to know anything. I'll try and add links to the eBay part and to the forum post below. www.vauxhallviva.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=24998 www.ebay.co.uk/itm/116217934699?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=vfbW3CO1Qda&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=1XHIUoJuS62&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Thanks mate, I've been down to take the heater box out of my green one the other day, I only had half an hour so I manged to get in to it by just taking out the shelf under the glove box, I've heard about the freelander matrix before it's definitely an option I'll take if I can't get something working 👍
Nice to see you back! Just an FYI at 9.30 on the vid. It will all be rotten. three panels meet there The upper bulkhead spot welds to the lower bulkhead Then the Heater Cover Mounting lip spot welds on top of that. The rule is if the top lip has gone they're always rotten below even if the bottom looks okay from the outside. On yours you can see on the drivers side bottom corner is puffing out so it will need attention some time in the future.
Great to see Vivas being saved they were built by people i know less than 2 miles from me at Vauxhalls Ellesmere Port always saw lots growing up as staff discount of 30+% meant cheap cars
Talking about PC 🖥 😂 when handling rodent wee-wee & faeces 😮 its good to wear a mask 😷 Good luck with asking for parts 😢 out in the colonies of New Zealand they would have laughed 😅 at you as far back as thirty years ago.❤ They said it was all history 😢 Thanks for patiently taking us through the journey of the AC & Heating of your yellow HC SL from Durham ❤
That heater matrix should be fine. You would have known if it was leaking as Viva Waz would be all over your floor. You can always try with a thin screw driver to straighten out the thin fins in the matrix if the mice have squashed them but try not to lose any of them or the efficiency will not be so good at heating the air flowing through.
Hi. Another great video. Really glad you are back. You’ve got me really wanting a viva estate now. We had one when I was a kid about 1978. It can’t have been that old but was already a disaster. I particularly remember a family holiday from Grantham to Scarborough and having to always park it facing downhill so dad could bump start it because we couldn’t afford a new battery. 😂
Glad to see you uploading again, and you spent time cleaning the garage, not bad for access, but should have tested the matrix and seen if you needed the green one, perhaps you are stretching out the jobs for more views, I do know how awkward and frustrating not having somewhere to work on the car, I hope things get sorted.
Loving tracking the progress on this lovely Viva and nice to see the estate also getting a mention. Making me tempted to get one but haven’t currently got the money for a good one. Also liking the Landcrab and P5, what’s their story?
Steve, just a thought. Rather than you having to fanny about putting that gromit in the mount for the replacement fan, can't you just re-use the mount you took out of the yellow one so that all the holes and connections are in the right place, and just change over the faulty fan for the ones that's working? I'm sure the wiring will be the same...😶 Sorry if this makes no sense but I know what I mean 😂
Loving the videos mate 👌🏻 I'm currently in the process of recommisioning a 1979 vauxhall chevette that's been off the road sat in a garage for 31 years, she's putting up a bit of a fight tho 🤣
Love my weekly update on the Viva las Vegas 👍 Your looking good bruv glad your awesome What's the music at the end of your video? See ya on the next one matey ❤
"I'll just order one from the Vauxhall dealer", haha, my local dealership parts department can only be contacted by email, and if they don't like the part you're asking for you don't hear from them.
I hope you do get the green one done the floor panels not hard to do get another bigger vauxhall engine modify it with some nice wheels it should be worth more being a estate I hope that blue maxi isn't yours another Austin rust box like many terrible cars they built 😂🤣
The green estate outwardly has gr 16:39 eat body. Period Rostyle wheels & twin period guard 💂♂️ mounted mirrors 🪞 would lift the spirit of the car along wiþh perhaps the slant 4 option with twin strombergs would be a video I would watch❤😊
I don’t have a clue what you are doing because I have no mechanical knowledge but live watching. You seem a good bloke

Hello, great video, thats another ticked off the list,it works perfectly, the green Viva would be an ideal project to sort out in the future.

Great to see Vivas being saved they were built by people i know less than 2 miles from me at Vauxhalls Ellesmere Port always saw lots growing up as staff discount of 30+% meant cheap cars
Class mate! Saving a lot of classics is the ultimate goal for the channel, hopefully a lot more viva's too👍
Matrix fins will be ok as long as not leaking. Will just have reduced efficiency
You got some cracking motors. The p5 blue is probably my favourite car colour of all time. Keep up the good work. ;)
@djfrankiebones4867 thanks mate, the p5b and the wolseley are my dad's cars, yeah it's a lovely motor the rover sounds mean ticking over 👍
