Laws also make it hard to charge money for old buildings - so thy were being torn down and replaced with the ugliest architecture imaginable. Both the city and the people are beautiful, very friendly to tourists, they treat you as kings, and the aura surrounding the city--too peaceful, it doesn't seem to be like the constantly moving, mobile world. My thoughts exactly! I liked Santiago a LOT, but Buenos Aires had my wife and I mesmerized. Even so, I think the most culturally wonderful city in the western hemisphere, with plenty of beauty to go around, is Mexico City. GAWD, I love that place!

I've seen quite a few cities, still the most bautiful is Medina! Both the city and the people are beautiful, very friendly to tourists, they treat you as kings, and the aura surrounding the city--too peaceful, it doesn't seem to be like the constantly moving, mobile world. Time slowed down in Medina, and I always dread tomorrow because I don't want to leave. Medina is truly, to put it simply, otherworldly.
