Elliot! I totally do that with commentaries too! I've got a bunch on my phone at any given time. This doesn't seem like my kind of movie but I still like to hear your take and I love learning about film restoration and new physical releases.

Definitely plan to pick this one up. A pity that longer cut was not available to make this a truly definitive set but I guess it's as definitive as can be for the time being. I hope SSF do a definitive 4k of Day of the Dead to go with their Dawn of the Dead set.
For me it’s Romero’s best non zombie film for sure. I’m looking forward to digging into the extras. Great coverage of another gorgeous set from Second Sight! 👍
I need to pick this up as I've read a great deal about it over the last 30+ years. It sounds like the transfer has been done with taste, and I'm glad the mono track has been included. Cheers from across the pond.
Regarding the Martin "director's cut": I was at a Dawn of the Dead screening last year which had a Q&A with producer Richard Rubinstein after. He claimed that that longer print of Martin was NOT Romero's preferred cut (as cinematographer Michael Gornick claimed) and more like a polished assembly cut that was never meant to see the light of day, and he seemed pretty intent on keeping it that way. Not sure what the real truth is there or if we'll ever get to see that cut but hopefully one day...
This is a great 4K set Ethan. I have the Arrow video DVD window box release that came out a few years ago. This was a lovely release that had some great extras poster and multiple covers😎
It's the best it's going on a 16mm thus the reason it looks grain heavy which may put alot of people off but it's a great release. The detail and colour are the highlights. It's not overly detailed abit inconsistent. Id rate this a 6.5-7 out of 10
Interesting video, especially your explanation of reverse stock and the 35mm duped. I remember watching the film on Arrow blu ray over a decade ago. Cannot wait for Second Sight’s release of The Hitcher later this year (hope it is finally getting a release this year) Second Sight has come a long way from their late 90s/early Noughties days.

Picked up the Blu Ray of this, but I also have the Arrow DVD of this which I will keep as it has the Italian version of the movie called Wampyr which has a soundtrack by Goblin (Suspiria, Deep Red, Tenebrae).

I prefer my Anchor Bay Collectors Edition VHS from 1997. Only non modern is real!

Well thanks to boutique blu rays I'm going to revisit this movie, as I watched it 20 years ago and can't recall a frame of it.
I wasn't able to purchase this from second sight because they don't deliver abroad at the moment, what a bummer. Always wanted to see this movie!

The documentary was really good
Its a brutal film but it 'grabs you'.
