Great video - really enjoyed the personal touch! Zenith has historically used 4 pointed stars, as well. For instance, looking at a 1971 A386, it has an applied 5 pointed star on the dial and the caseback has a 4 pointed star. Zenith can sometimes be consistently inconsistent! 🙂
Not to nitpick, but this watch was released during LVMH Watch Week in Jan. (I believe). I tried it on at a Zenith AD in Feb and found it perfect for me (6.5" wrist), though it would directly compete for wrist time with my OP36.
The only thing going for an op36 is that it is a Rolex but it is just a boring watch particularly if it’s not in a bright color, I have the coral red in 41 and find it boring quite often, panerai or Cartier are giving me better feels… my day date 40 white gold green dial IS interesting, the ultimate evolution of a plane oyster perpetual.

I cannot get past the fact that one can obtain a Grand Seiko Lake Suwa (SLGA007G) with a spring drive for a mere $100 more than what this Zenith goes for. I know, I know they are very different styles, and the GS is a 40mm. But I also know where my $8700 would go if I was inclined to part with it.
Nice video, cool watch. Shocked the 41 looks so chunky and this 36 looks so dainty? Sad it looks like they downgraded the movement but barely touched the price in comparison to the 41. If you can get your hands on a CW the twelve I would love to get your take on that watch after handling this.

The funny thing is I just put my prx 40 powermatic for sale because it's too big for my wrist. I mean, it's awesome, but that lug to lug wears too big. I haven't tried the 35mm, but that just sounds too small haha. I've not gotten to try on this (or any) Zeniths yet, but that 41 seems okay for probably slightly larger to large wristed folks (7.25" here), but in in between size would be great. While the PRX 40 fits fine on my wrist, I really love the 39mm size of the Autodromo Group B. We probably won't get one, but a 38.5mm split down the model would be a great compromise (I use that positively). I'm not here to tell people what they should like, but I concur the 36 did look a bit small on your 7" wrist. The Explorer I looked a little bigger and just fine though. Kudos to your wife for humoring you and participating for this video.
Evan, is the outside aspect of the date window cut off by the weird 12-sided rehaut? I’d love to try one in person, but no dealers near me. Pricing is obnoxious, especially without the El Primero movement.
I'm not a fan of the current integrated bracelet craze so this isn't for me. But it's weird how it's both too large for her and too small for you. And will the lugs take ONLY those two straps? If so, that blows. I appreciate the video, though. Thanks!
Been waiting for more coverage of this watch in this size. It’s definitely the sweet spot size for my wrist. That price though is not making sense to me. Maybe I’ll wait for these to hit the grey market or preowned market. That price should make more sense.

No way this is too small on your wrist. We've all become used to bigger watches over the last 25 years. This is the traditional men's size. Less is more here for sure.
It looks really nice, but the dial lacks something without the small seconds subdial. I really like Zenith's designs, but their watches just seem......a bit overpriced.

It's the right size for you if you were going to wear it as a 'dress' watch, and therefore always with a suit. But yeah for the modern world and how casual it is, it's too small. And that's coming from a guy who regularly wears a 34mm TAG F1 from the 90s. Somehow that TAG looks bigger on my 7inch wrist than that 36mm Defy looks on yours, probably since the TAG has a chunky black bezel considering it's tiny stature. Sizing for watches IMO is highly dependent on purpose. If you are ACTUALLY going out diving then you can get away with oversized 45mm divers (or your PloProf XD) that you simply cannot wear with a suit and look good. Just look at Mad Men - 33mm dress watches on full grown men all over the place and they don't look out of place not due to the setting, but that they are nearly always worn with full suits and sometimes even Tuxedos. I highly doubt anyone other that watch enthusiasts even noticed how 'small' they were in that show. I think as society became increasingly casual the size of watches increased to match the clothing TBH. It was always a deeper and more nuanced development than big = 'better and more manly' / the Stallone effect and I think people still don't quite get that.

Totally out of left field, but this watch really makes me wish Oris would offer the ProPilot X in 36mm. Both this watch and that have a futuristic, super-angular form that I think is really compelling. But the ProPilot X is too large for a bezel-less and uncomplicated watch, in my opinion. At 36mm I think it could be really nice...for me.
The ProPilot X in 36mm would be a perfect size for MANY people, including myself! Oris should also make their Big Crown ProPilot Worldtimer (which is 44.7mm) in 36mm!
You should try the ProPilot X on if you haven't already. It looks perfect size on me and I have a 6.25 wrist. I love that watch too. The angular nature, the titanium, the subtle look. I even don't mind no applied indices. But it's just way overpriced. It's a $1000-$2000 watch, even with discounts they offer it's not worth it

Its so weird how the Rolex looks bigger on your wrist than the Zenith but opposite on your wife's wrist. I hate to talk about a Rolex in a Zenith review but there is some really weird black magic going on with that Rolex, like Sauron's one ring that changes sizes to fit the wearer perfectly.

Zeith is hugely interesting to me, but I feel personally attacked by their excessive use of the 'star' logo everywhere on their watches... Very visually off-putting, for me.
