Not only is Paul THE bass player, you will find that in much of his solo work (including the entire Band On The Run Album from Wings) he is playing ALL of the instruments. I just can't sotp being in awe of his artistry.
Love the trombone solo!
Paul is the bass player!!
My parents had a lot of Wings albums when I was a kid, so this is pretty nostalgic for me. This one charted as a single, I recall, at least in the UK. Paul is definitely in "I can write a song about anything" mode here, but I like it. It's not radical or deep in any way. It's just playing around and having fun. This album, _Wings at the Speed of Sound,_ became my favourite. It is ironically named, because nothing on it is supersonic, just sort of mellow noodling, some of it thoughtful, some of it a bit silly. But nice.
This is so hypnotic to me...
Paul’s wife Linda was the keyboardist in Wings.
Well, they BOTH were.
One of favorites as a little tyke, maybe 5. Mom would say, "let 'em Joey." So I'd open the door and say, " A YEEEEEEAH!"
I never picked up on it when this song was released, but the Phil and Don reference is Phil and Don Everly, The Everly Brothers. I'd read that The Beatles' harmony was influenced by The Everly Brothers. Once I was aware of that, I can hear them in every Beatle song.
Brother Michael refers to Paul's brother Mike who as Mike McGear had hits with The Scaffold
Oh man but you have to listen to Billy Paul's version with the Philly sound, it's MAGNIFICENT. Also you should listen to some Billy Paul, period!
When this song came out I asked the question who would be knocking and ringing the bell on Paul's door? And then I'd say get up you lazy Paul and let them in already! haha My song NEW WORLD ORDER has a MARCH beat like this one!
Not a lot of analysis needed. A well-crafted pop song, nothing more, nothing less. A day at the office for Sir Paul
he is referencing people who died. Martin luther, Aunti Gin, Sister susan, Phil and Don (everly brothers). Let em in to heaven
@richvalois6405 They are not ALL people who have died, "Brother Michael" is Paul's younger brother Mike who is very much alive. "Brother John" is Linda's brother who was also very much alive at that time (not sure if he is deceased NOW), "AUNTIE JIN" (not "Gin") is Paul's paternal aunt, and I believe she was still alive at the time the song was written. The EVERLY BROTHERS were STILL ALIVE in 1976 when this song came out. Phil didn't die until 2014 and Don died in 2021
@@patticrichton1135 Yes, John Eastman passed away in 2022.
Not a huge Beatles fan. Ha. I have heard that phrase before. Being a huge Beatles fan myself, my question is always how many Beatles songs and which ones have you heard to claim that. We don't have to like the same music, but this always makes me wonder. Thanks.
It's so true. I know tons of songs by them that I truly do love. I should've said: I'm not a Beatles STAN🥰. Thanks for sharing and watching!
@@SightAfterDark STAN. I have learned a knew word from you! Then, I guess, I am a proud Beatles STAN, if only of the music. I also do not model my life after them, I am not that rich 🙂Thank you for your reactions, I am excited to continue the Paul McCartney and the Wings journey with you. Also a huge fan. There are good Paul and Linda albums, though, pre- and post-Wings, e.g., McCartney (I), Ram, Tug of War, Pipes of Peace. Thanks again and take care.
Not a huge fan either but I do enjoy both the Beatles and Wings. Feel lucky I got to at least see Paul. Wonderful show!
I’ve heard this tune at least a few times but this time I heard it differently. Paul’s vocals stuck out to me. Almost comical; felt like he was adding silly flourishes at times, which fits perfectly. Fun song.
C'mon Dan do Paul a solid... let 'em in. Besides Martin Luther isn't coming in.. he is just nailing a bunch of theses to the door.
Hello from Cody Wyoming 😊you're awesome keep it up... all are welcome to the rabbithole of Dimash put your seatbelt on Stranger and Opera2 isamust
Bass = Paul Mac
Also, considering your very favorable reaction to Oh, Darling by the Beatles the other day. I am getting some mixed signals here. Just saying. Caveat: I like your reactions in general. Thanks.
Sifa's not a huge Beatles fan meaning she doesn't stan them(collecting albums, interviews and doesn't model her style after them etc), but she does like them a lot- just not as much as she likes Wings😊.
@@SightAfterDarkThanks for the clarification. I am also a huge Paul McCartney and the Wings fan, albeit as a natural extension of the Beatles.
@@SightAfterDark And "stan" is a really new word for me. I am not so familiar with the young folks vernacular. I am in no way patronizing here, it's just I am really older than you than both of you combined (heavy sigh) and call from a foreign land. Thanks again.
The live version is definitely better. The whole rockshow concert is perfect start to end. Not my favourite Wings song but not bad either
Billy Paul's cover transformed this song into a black power anthem, complete with samples from MLK and Malcolm X.
I like this song, I like The Beatles. I like ODB. 🤣Somebody let this person in. And give ODB his money back.🤣Do you guys listen to The Beastie Boys??
We definitely do!
Nice!!! 😎
Denny Laine, co wrote all the good stuff when he was with wings. Denny wanted royalties to the songs. Paul said no. Court battle takes place. What court is going to go against Paul? Denny looses the battle. No surprise. Not happy with the decision, Denny says at the end of the case Paul will never write a good song again. He was right. Have a look at his body of work after wings.
Inaccurate. Denny wrote or co-wrote a handful of Wings songs, not "all the giood stuff", most of them on London Town:-
No Words
Time To Hide
London Town
Children Children
Deliver Your Children
Again and Again and Again
Don't Let It Bring You Down
Morse Moose & the Grey Goose
Mull of Kintyre
Have I missed any? As far as i know, all those co-writes are to this day still credited McCartney/Laine, and always will be, and Denny - or his estate now - will continue to recieve royalties due, the one exception being Mull of Kintyre because Denny traded future rights for a cash sum when in financial difficulty. Please explain what court battle you are referring to and what, exactly, you think Denny lost.
@@strathman7501 Ok. Laine is credited, but not paid royalties in their completion. Laine is only paid part royalties, so Laine took Paul to court for the royalties of songs he co wrote with Mc. Well documented case. The court ruled in favour of Mc. What court is going to go against Sir, P. At the end of the cast Laine said that PM would never write another hit song, guess what? he was right. PM was only a good song writer if he co wrote.
@@bwana-ma-coo-bah425 Where is it "well documented" that Laine was never paid royalties - or what you now claim was "part royalties"? Where have you read about this court ruling? I'm asking for factual references, please, and not about Mull of Kintyre (I disagree with your opinions, but that is neither here nor there)
@@strathman7501 I will find it and send you the link, give me a couple of days I am flying overseas.
This is such an innaccurate and ridiculous comment.
You guys talked over the song that’s not showing respect
